BITE ME!

AJ Ashe isn’t a typical seventeen-year-old vampire (as if there is such a thing as ‘typical!’) Her ex-boyfriend is now her stepbrother. Her two BFFs are in a huge fight and AJ’s caught in the middle. She’s totally framed for cheating on a Lit test. And now, apparently, the fate of humankind lies in her little undead hands. Like that’s fair. What ever happened to the good old days when all a vampire girl had to worry about was the occasional zit and hiding her fetish for necks?

Here’s a taste:

Chapter 1

My mother’s wedding day.

I should be thrilled she’s getting hitched to the man of her dreams. And don’t get me wrong, part of me is truly happy for her. I like Mr. Fraser, I mean Rick. A lot. He’s a great guy.

But I like his oldest son, Ryan, even more.

I like Ryan so much that I let him have a little boob action last week. And we even toyed with the idea of some under the zipper action, until his stupid younger brother poured a big bucket of cold water on that idea when he barged into the tree house to tell us our parents were getting married.

“Oh my God! You’re feelin’ up our sister!” he’d said with a cackle. “We are officially a Mississippi cliché. Awesome.”

“Get out, Raytard!” Ryan had yelled, chunking a pillow at the fourteen year old’s head.

And now I stood with my two sisters in the backyard of the antebellum mansion our melting-pot family would call home, wearing my pretty pink sundress, staring across at my new “brothers” (the oldest of whom I still wanted to jump, by the way) while our parents vowed to love each other for eternity.

I wonder if Mr. Fraser, er, Rick, realized that eternity was not just a metaphor in our case.

After all, vampires tend to live for centuries

Reviews of Bite Me!

Publishers Weekly:

First-time novelist Francis presents a tasty story that uses humor and a light touch to rise above typical teen vampire fare. Seventeen-year-old “good girl” AJ may be a closet blood-drinker, but that’s the least of her problems. Her mom’s remarriage has just turned her boyfriend into her stepbrother (“Momma’s exact words to me were, ‘Ariel Jane, if you so much as look at that boy with fangs in your eyes again, I’ll bite you myself.’ ”), her AP Lit teacher is already out to get her on the first day of school, and she might have accidentally turned her rebound guy into a vamp who is now threatening her family. On top of that, she’s been accused of cheating on a quiz, and compromising photos have appeared on her Facebook page—someone has to be setting her up. But who? Francis keeps things moving, creating an absorbing and refreshing page-turner with a solid mythology, sympathetic heroine and appealing characters that readers will want to invite back to their own homes (well, almost). Ages 14–up. (Aug.)

– Five Stars-

AJ Ashe, a teenage Southern belle, is hiding a secret.

Her family is descended from a long line of vampires – yep, I just said vampires. AJ has fangs and occasionally craves blood, but she has also suppressed many of her vamp instincts to fit into “normal” society.

The part that’s not normal – AJ’s mom is marrying her boyfriend’s father.

AJ knows she can’t be with Ryan, especially now that they are step-siblings. The reality of the situation doesn’t make it hurt any less. AJ tries to push Ryan into the arms of another willing female, but they just can’t seem to avoid one another.

And then, of course, other weirdness starts going down. AJ discovers that her family is part of the Serpentine clan; a high school friend is killed, rises from the dead, and begins to stalk her; AND she gets suspended from school.

Just another day in the life of a teenage vampire!

Melissa Francis has successfully produced a fun and fresh vampire novel. The story itself is engaging, and you can’t help but love the characters. Many a teenage girl will empathize with AJ and her angst-ridden relationship with Ryan.

I enjoyed the fact that Francis has made her vampires very different from those in the TWILIGHT series. These vamps have their own set of rules to follow.

I am so glad that I got my hands on this book. The ending left me wanting more, so here’s hoping that many sequels will follow!

LOVE SUCKS!

AJ Ashe is moving on. Sure she still has not-so-sisterly feelings for Ryan, her ex-boyfriend-turned-step-brother, but there’s a new vampire in town and his name is Alexander Archer. Caught between the desire to move forward with Sexy Lexy and being drawn to her past with Ryan, AJ thinks life couldn’t get anymore complicated. Yeah, right. When her mother’s pregnancy is threatened, it looks like AJ’s long lost father is the only person who can save her. But Dad’s help comes with a price. AJ is forced join the evil side of her family, and a very creepy shape-shifting demon is there to make sure AJ cooperates. All this and she’s still got to plan the prom. Being a teenager is tough, but being a teenage vampire just flat out sucks. Pun totally intended.

4.5 STARS!

“Just when I thought Melissa Francis’ books couldn’t get any better, her sophomore novel came out and it was nothing short of amazing, good-old fun, making the Bite Me series one of my current faves!”

Teens Read, Too 4 STARS!“LOVE SUCKS! is a fun, mystery-filled adventure that keeps the reader on their toes. The characters are extremely entertaining and well-developed, even the bad guys. The plot moves fairly fast and is well-done. Readers who like paranormal adventure, romance, and semi-realistic fiction will enjoy reading this booK.”

    • Cheyenne, I would love to write another book in the series, but the publisher wasn’t interested. I’ve considered self publishing a 3rd, but that’s not in the works right now. Thank you for your interest!

  1. I loved both “Bite Me!, and Love Sucks!”. However there’s a question I’ve been wanting to ask for a very long time. Are you going to publish a third book! You left me on the edge of my seat, ready for the next adventure (romance) of AJ and Ryan. I’d love to know if their future child is the prophesied one.

    • Juli, I’m so glad you liked the books! I wanted to do a 3rd book, but the publisher wasn’t interested. The sales just weren’t strong enough to support another book. 😦

      Thanks for commenting!

  2. I absolutely love “Bite Me” and “Love Sucks”!!! I’ve read them more times than I can count honestly and am dying for another book! Have you considered writing a third and posting it on wattpad to get the popularity up before publishing it, that works sometimes. I absolutely ADORE the books and NEED to know how AJ and Ryan’s relationship goes.
    Anyways, you’re an amazing writer(:
