learning to run…

Saturday was day one of my 12 week (not 12 step) program to get back into running.

This week, I walk for 4 minutes; then run for 1 minute. I alternate the walking/running 4 times during the session. I do this for 3 days.

I was surprised at how quickly the minute running passed. I’d imagined that one minute would feel like forever as I clomped along like a clumsy mule. I’d also imagined that by the end of that minute, I’d be gasping for air and ready to hurl. However, I seemed to manage each of the minute clompings without much gasping or nausea.

Yesterday was a non-running day. Fishdog and I walked for about an hour and a half in the morning and then yesterday evening, I walked for another 30 minutes. I have a lot of making up to do for the past 3 weeks. I figured I should go ahead and try to make it up all in one day. Makes sense, don’t you think?

I had a fairly successful writing weekend. I only managed to write 3 pages, but I did manage to do a bit of plotting.

Anything fun happen to you this weekend? Try anything new? Go anywhere special? Did you just veg out and read? Fill me in!

  1. I spent two days cleaning the house, rearranging furniture and moving crap into the garage (and putting it away). Oh, and doing laundry.I did so much work, I’m sore. But the house looks like a million bucks. Plus I wrote five pages. Not a lot, but better than nada.Good for you for getting back into running. I’ve never been a runner but I always thought it would be nice. Runners are skinny.

  2. I went to the office on Saturday and knocked out some things, then came home and watched a bunch of movies (so I could clear them from my dvr). Sunday I watched some more movies, did some reading and did the week’s cooking. All-in-all a good, productive weekend. :o)

  3. Good for you on running!!! I love it and hope you do too. I run the race for the cure this weekend. I look forward to races like this one…it’s hard not to cry at some point during the race though. I’m sure this year will be harder since my ordeal last december. This weekend my Redbirds (soccer) kicked ass and won 7-4 against the team who’s kid was with us in spring but her Dad decided to coach his own team….hahahaha!

  6. Let’s see, I went to Tampa with the family to help celebrate my mother-in-law’s 70th birthday. A good time was had by all. And I’ve discovered a great new writer (well, she’s not new, but she’s new to me)-Lani Diane Rich. I’m reading her “Ex and the Single Girl” that I got at Nationals. It’s sort of like Steel Magnolias meets Britain!

  7. I had a vegetative weekend, when I should have been getting a lot done. Sigh. Did go to a cool event Saturday night, though. Nuit Blanche was held in Toronto. It was a huge art festival where 130 or so art installations were all over the city in unexpected places from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am. I saw a few from about midnight to 1:00 am after a party I went to.
