My final movie is the best Christmas movie of all time. No it is not A Christmas Story or a Christmas Vacation. Those are definitely in the top 5 and I’m sorry I didn’t quote the Griswold’s during my movie journey.
No, IMO the best holiday movie of all time is: Love Actually.
I watched it again last night and I
cried like a big ol’ baby teared up a tiny bit like I always do. There are so many wonderful scenes and quotes in this movie. I love it when the Prime Minister says to Margaret Thatcher’s painting: You have this kind of problem? Yeah… of course you did, you saucy minx!
There’s something wonderful about each story in this film and every time we get to the conclusion of a different character’s storyline, I find myself thinking “THIS is my favorite storyline.” Then we move to the next one and then I think “No, THIS is my favorite storyline.” So, I have two favorite scenes and a hundred favorite lines. Without showing you the entire movie, here’s what you get today:
Karen: Mia’s very pretty.
Harry: Is she?
Karen: You know she is, darling. Be careful there.
I chose this exchange because it breaks my heart every time. It sets this story up so well and it shows a very real exchange. Women are very observant and men are oftentimes too thick to listen. Which makes this story even sadder because had he listened, it would have been avoided. (I always, always, always hope that each time I watch the movie Harry decides to give Karen the necklace. LOL I’m such a sucker)
Sam:Worse than the total agony of being in love?
Billy Mack: And I realized that, as dire chance and… and… and fateful cockup would have it, here I am, mid-50s, and without knowing it I’ve gone and spent most of my adult life with a… with a chubby employee. And… and much as it grieves me to say it, it… it might be that the people I love is, in fact… you.
Joe: Well, this is a surprise.
Billy Mack: Yeah.
Joe: Ten minutes at Elton John’s, you’re as gay as a maypole!
Best Bromance ever.
And of course, the two scenes that turn me into mush:
My wasted heart will always love you (OMG this line!!!)
I have come here with a view to ask you to marriage me:
