and life goes on…

5 years ago, I was pulling into the parking lot at work listening to NPR when they announced a single plane had hit the WTC.

Reports were unclear at first. It sounded as if it were a small plane, and though serious, there were no speculations of terrorism at the time.

I turned off my engine, strolled inside, fixed my cuppa, turned on my computer, and discovered there had been a 2nd crash.

I don’t remember much else from that day, other than my heart hammered in my throat as I stayed glued to the internet and to the radio.

At home, I couldn’t stop watching the Television. I cried a lot.

Somehow, I’d imagined that the horrific events of 9/11/01 would’ve brought our country closer together. I thought that the tragedy would’ve inspired unity. Instead, it created a chasm that we may not recover from.

It saddens me.

But for the survivors of 9/11, life goes on. So, hug your loved ones today. Make those phone calls. Don’t wait for a tragedy to remember that life is short.

wrappin’ up the week…

God. I am so glad it’s Friday.

The first week of the month is always my busiest. Now, this week was worse because of the holiday. I am tired.

The cats haven’t killed each other yet, but Ginger is having nothing at all to do with the dogs. And the dogs really, really, really want to have something to do with her. The fur may start flying one way or another this weekend.

Rader’s first soccer game was last night. They won 3-2. I would post some of the fantastic pics I took, but, my camera died. So I have to charge it before I download the pictures.

Progress reports came yesterday, and so far, 7th grade is really agreeing with Ian. Many of you will remember his struggles with 5th & 6th grades. So far, nothing lower than an 84 and he has an A in Pre-Algebra! This is huge!

I’ve been instant messaging me brummie lad over the past few days. He misses America some, but is having a good time back home, getting ready for Uni. We still miss him around these parts.

I usually get a call from my Scottish lad on Saturday nights, where he fills me in on his plans for the weekend and how his week went. Last weekend I spoke to Captain and Nizzy as well. They should be getting their brownies today or tomorrow. Which will probably come in handy since I’m betting they aren’t spending a helluva lotta money on food. I remember that age…and food was not my main source of nourishment.

Oh, and I’m officially down 30 lbs.!

chef-boy

Last night, Rader and I made three batches of brownies. We’re mailing two batches to the lads in Nebraska and we kept one for ourselves.

He was very excited about cooking. He read the directions on the back of the box and gathered the ingredients.

Rader: 1/3 cup of water and 1/3 cup of oil and 1 egg.
Me: Very good. Now, if we’re making three boxes how much oil and water do we need.
Rader: Three thirds.
Me: Right. But, is that really a measurement we use? What does three thirds cups equal.

He thought about it for a second then smiled.

Rader: That’s one cup!
Me: Excellent!

He was proud he figured that out…as he should be. Then he got to the most important part of baking…

Rader: Mom? Can I wear an apron?

Of course you can!

I tried to get Ian involved. Hell, it was his idea to cook the lads brownies in the first place…but he was too busy on the computer chatting with his girlfriend. I guess he has his priorities…

welcome to the family

This is Ginger. (formerly known as Shelby)

Ginger was surrendered to the Humane Society several weeks ago by her owner. We have adopted her. We have renamed her. We like her a lot.

Now, if only we could get Hector (the cat and supreme ruler), Pete (the fuzzy and supreme dumbass), and Charlie (the houndog and supreme slothlike creature) on board with the whole “liking her” thing.

I guess it will happen in due time.

and a little bit of success was found…

Well, it took me two days to write this scene.

But it’s written.

And I’m pretty happy with it. Right now. That might change tomorrow.

I managed to write 10 pages today. I had wanted to do 20 for the weekend, but wasn’t able to sit down and write until after 6pm last night. I only wrote about 4 paragraphs yesterday because I had the attention of a chiuaua on crack.

Today wasn’t a lot better. But I forced myself to stick it out until the scene was finished. I’m glad I did.

I just hope it’s a keeper.

Now, I think I’ll relax with a nice whisky and read about some Hot Demon Sex.
