i refuse to let matt jones snort away my day

This makes me feel better. One of my favorite movies (13 Going on 30)…and one of my favorite dances. C’mon, admit it. When Thriller was released, you kept the cable box punched into MTV channel all day, just so you could watch the video and learn the dance.

Only me? Oh well. I can rock the Thriller dance. (well, I used to rock the Thriller dance)

So, screw you and whatever you put up your nose, my former hero. I’m going back to celebrating my nose-pierce-iversary. Cheers!

why why why?

Matt Jones arrested for cocaine.

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones faces a felony drug charge in his former college town after police say he was inside a car cutting up cocaine with a credit card.

The 25-year-old Jones and two others were arrested early Thursday. A police report said officers approached the car and an officer drew his handgun after Jones did not immediately show his hands.

Police said they searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag filled with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine and a jar with possible marijuana residue.

for those of you who do not know who Matt Jones is:

Jones was a star quarterback at Arkansas and a first-round draft pick by the Jaguars in 2005.

I loved watching him play. He was amazing. And I’m so disgusted right now. What a pisser. What a downer on my nose-pierce-iversary.

happy nose-pierce-iversary!

That’s right, 1 year ago today, I had my nose pierced.
And I can’t imagine my life without that little gem. Seriously, it’s like I’ve always had it.

So happy nose-pierce-iversary to me!

I got my navel pierced for my 35th birthday. My nose done to celebrate my first book sale…and this year’s milestone…a tattoo.

I was supposed to get my first one in SF this year at the RWA Conference with the same group of Divas who kidnapped me and took me to get my nose done last year. But that wasn’t meant to be. First of all, I had to cancel my trip. Too expensive under the circumstances. If my book was going to hit the shelves this year, I would’ve figured out a way to afford the trip, but it’s not, and there really is no reason for me to go. Secondly, Fishdog has designed my tattoo but it needs a little tweaking. The tattoo isn’t going to happen until the design is ready.

But it will happen sometime before March. It’s my turning 40 celebration.

Do you do anything special to celebrate your milestones?

def leppard always makes me happy.

In a funk? Have some Def Leppard. Go on. It won’t hurt.

Don’t you want to tease your bangs 14 ft high and spray them with a can of Aquanet and hit the clubs wearing your shoulder padded jacket, short skirt, and fishnets? Only me?

(actual year: 1993) Yes. That’s really me. I can’t apologize enough.

blog drought

I’m just feeling a bit dry this morning. Anyone wanna water my blog?

No? Fine. I’ll do it myself.

I’m in a weird spot in my life right now. Two mortgages and a part-time job I had hoped I wouldn’t have to take—(if the house in Oxford would just sell….) The employer has asked me to extend my hours, which I really don’t want to do and I was very up front with them when I took this position that it was part-time. I have kids to fight with parent and books daydream about write at home.

I am waiting on copy-edits for BITE ME and working on LOVE SUX and also have another YA proposal (that I love, love, love) in the wings, ready to be shopped as soon as BITE ME is accepted. I am also writing a new adult proposal that I have high hopes for. It’s strictly chick-lit, kinda like Sophie Kinsella’s stand alone books (God, who wouldn’t wanna be like Sophie Kinsella???) It’s funny and I’m really enjoying writing it…but I’m stuck in a scene. So yesterday I did something I hate doing. I deleted 10 pages.

Yup. D-E-L-E-T-E

I had to do it because the scene wasn’t right. It was Boring. No conflict. Nothing there but a hot dude and some wine. So, it went bye-bye and today I’m going to move forward. Not sure exactly how, but I am.

It’s been hard fitting my writing back into my life after taking this job. I struggle in the afternoon with concentration. This didn’t used to be a problem when I worked full-time before. But things have changed. Expectations have changed. I’m the one who runs the kids around and cooks dinner, etc. It’s hard to do all that and sit down to write. But I’ll figure it out—I always do.

What’s going on in your world? Anything new, fun, or exciting?

and breathe

Our house has been living, breathing chaos for 2 weeks. And I’ve loved every minute of it. I am a social being and I thrive around people. The more the better. A week ago, when we had a houseful of hot young British soccer coaches, I was totally in my element. And then last week, we had family here for a few days and despite our battle with Mother Nature, it was a blast.

But I’m tired now. I need a breather.

So tonight, I’m cooking a pork roast, having myself a nice bourbon, and watching The Bachelorette in the peace and quiet. Is it sad that I am really looking forward to this? (actually, I can’t wait for the Bachelorette! seriously, I’m counting down….)

Who will she choose? The ABC boards are reeling with rumors that she picks Jesse. I love Jesse, so I can’t complain if that happens. However, I REALLY have a hard time believing that she would’ve brought a single dad to the very end just to yank his balls.

We’ll see. Either way, I do think she’s found someone that has made her happy, and honestly, that’s what it’s all about. If she’s lucky, she’ll pick her very own Fishdog.

BTW, there are pictures from Friday night circling around Facebook… sigh. Why do we think it’s fun to bring cameras to bars?

we interrupt this regularly scheduled blog…

Okay, I did blog today. See post below.

However, I have been biting my tongue for a damn month to shout this from the bloody rooftops and now I can.

My CP, Louisa Edwards, signed a 4 book deal with St. Martins about a month ago. The announcement was in Publisher’s Weekly today. I am so happy! I have been shouting on my inside parts trying to keep this secret…and it ain’t been easy, let me tell ya.

Here’s the announcement;

the holiday

Fictionistas

‘Brother Joe’ and family came for a visit this weekend. We had a great time. We don’t see them often enough, honestly. They live in the Raliegh area, which is a 14 hour drive from here. And my niece plays very competitve soccer, so more often than not, they aren’t even home. they’re traveling from soccer pitch to soccer pitch watching my niece be awesome.

Friday was the 4th and we decided to spend that day down at the Rivermarket instead of going to the lake with everyone else.

Our visit downtown started off a little rocky because we had the kids with us. The only places that seemed to be open were Bar/Restaurants. Arkansas passed a law that states you can smoke indoors if you do not allow anyone under 21 into your establishment. Well, that’s all fine and good when other places are open. We were hungry and frankly, we need a place to eat quick, fast, and in a hurry. We finally found Gusano’s was opened…it’s a pizza place. My SIL and Niece aren’t big pizza eaters, but they had other things on the menu. The most important thing was that minors could eat there. The 2nd most important thing: they had beer available.

Guasano’s was ill-prepared for the 4th family crowd and only had 2 waitresses who were doing it all. I even joked about jumping behind the bar and slinging drinks. One of the waitresses looked at me with hope in her eyes…but I didn’t do it. Their management team should be smacked silly for their lack of prep.

The food was good, even if it did take longer than it should’ve. After lunch, we walked along the river, the kids got airbrushed tattoos and we visited the Clinton Presidential Libary. We left as a storm rolled in. (wish we would’ve had that luck on Saturday.)

That night, we were going to take the kids back to the river to see the fireworks, but they weren’t interested. So we left them to their own devices (I love having teens) and we adults grabbed a cab and headed back downtown…to Willy D’s, a dueling piano bar. Much fun was had that night. Maybe too much fun. Either way, it was another late night downtown and when I woke up on Saturday, I was hoarse from all the singing. Pictures were taken that night…but not by me. I’ll have to track those down though, cuz all photo evidence of that night must be pre-approved by me before posting. LOL
