day 29 of my birthday month

Today is my second birthday of the month. (and it’s actually my dad’s and my niece’s REAL birthday. I’m so sweet, I don’t even mind sharing)

So for my 2nd birthday, we’re headed to the horse races at Oaklawn with a group of about 25 friends. It should be a great time and I even have a super cute new outfit to wear.

I’ll take lots of pictures. (some might be blurry…) and I’ll post them sometime tomorrow.

Today’s chatter topic: skinny jeans–should they have made a comeback or should they have stayed buried forever?

My opinion: buried. I can’t wear them, therefore they should not be allowed to exist.

and a good weekend was had by all

Yes, it was a very good weekend. We had company Friday and Saturday night and I also wrote a buttload.

I finished the rough draft of my synopsis and 23 pages of my new proposal. I’m not sharing anything yet, except that it is another YA Paranormal. And it’s fun.

Now I’m watching Blade Trinity with the boys (can you believe I haven’t seen this movie?) and we’re having a lot of fun with Ryan Reynold’s character. He cracks me up.

See y’all bright and early tomorrow morning.

Kisses.

monday, monday

Good Monday Mornin’ to ya!

What’s going on today? Well, I’m going to start working on a new YA story. It’s a great idea and I love the main character already. I used my trip home from Kansas City to brainstorm quite a bit and now I’m going to sit down and see if I can hammer out a chapter. Or two.

I have to tell you, I am completely shocked by the number of people who commented on my author photos post. Thank y’all so much. I am also completely shocked by how many of you guys chose the serious hand shot photo. It was totally my throw-away picture. I like it, but I am NEVER going to have a “hand shot-head shot” as my author photo. Those are soooooo overdone. And most times, they are so cheesy, my cholesterol goes up 50 points just looking at them. Aside from the fact that I don’t want a “hand shot-head shot” as my author photo–the picture is also too serious. I wanted something that is warm and fun. So I went with a smile. Deidre was right…I needed something less serious for my target audience.

This picture was probably my all time favorite, but it’s a little too dark and there’s a bit of a flash on my glasses, so it didn’t make it into the final countdown.

My weekend in KC was great, but I am glad to be home. I spent a lot of time with two of my best friends. We ate some great food, did some shopping, and drank a little bit too much. It was almost perfect.

For today’s entertainment, I’m posting my new favorite video. You totally need to watch it. Sarah Silverman is funny as shit…but so is Matt Damon. And if you love Matt Damon…you’ll love him even more after watching this. If you don’t love Matt Damon (what is wrong with you?) then you’ll at least have a newfound respect for him. This was my theme song for the weekend. It’s a very catchy tune. Seriously, watch the video. Totally worth it.

YAY!

My best friend and CP, Maria Geraci, sold to Berkley Sensation yesterday in a 2 book deal! The Church of Bunco will finally be on the shelves!!!! AWESOME!

Run over to read her story at the Titlewave blog! It’s a great story with a fabulous HEA!
Maria…you rock!

working for the weekend?

Not when you’re a writer! I am working TOWARD the weekend, but probably I will spend much of Saturday and Sunday butt-in-chair. It’s okay, though. Next weekend, I’m headed to KC with my best friend from high school to visit my best friend from college and one of my kids’ godfather, so I have to get this finished before I leave.

Cake, I tell you. Cake.

I made it to the gym this morning. One more day to go to meet my goal of 3 days this week. Maybe I’ll do a bonus 4th day just cuz I’m feeling good.

On my list of things to do today:

Work on manuscript
Buy a corkboard
Buy cake mix for school fundraiser
Do laundry and clean kitchen

On a sad note, I’m just sick about the death of Heath Ledger. Sigh. Not only was he beautiful to look at, but he was a brilliant, young actor and father. Anyway, I know there is death everyday and we put celebrities up on a ridiculously high pedestal and it seems weird to mourn a man that I never knew. But honestly, he seemed like a good egg–like he was one of the actors who could redeem Hollywood to some extent.

6 outta 7 ain’t bad

We had a pimpin’ good time at the races. Here, let me show you:
We see this dude every year and this year I finally got my picture with him. Oh yeah.

I’m pretty sure we accomplished 6 out of the 7 deadly sins…Wrath being the only sin left out in the rain. Sorry, Wrath. We were having too much fun. Maybe next time.

I won a couple of races, but I didn’t come away any richer. Sigh. One of these days…

We met our obligatory drunk cowboy.
Happens. Every. Year.
This year’s cowboy was great. His name was Tim and he works on an oil rig off the coast of South America somewhere and he told us that he would totally go up in space and drill into a meteor in order to save the earth. Bruce Willis just cowboyed up. LOL

Anyway, a good time was had by all. I’m ready to go back again…after I get over the sting of my empty pockets.

today is a day for sinning…

I’m guessing that today, my girlfriends and I will commit at least 6 of the 7 deadly sins. Maybe all 7. I know for certain we’ll hit lust, greed and gluttony. There’ll be some wrath, some envy, and some pride as well. Sloth will come about tonight, as we lounge in the hotel and relive our day of sin.

What’s going on? you ask.

Well, it’s opening day at Oaklawn! We’re taking our yearly jaunt to the horse races. That’s right: today is vajority day out.

It’s as cold as a witch’s titty in a brass bra here today–19 degrees as I’m typing this. Hopefully the sun will come out and cast its warming glow of approval on our day of sin. If not, we’ll just stay inside and drink tea. *snort*

Anyway, you bitches try to have fun without me. If you behave, I’ll even place a bet in your honor. If you don’t behave, I’ll be sure to spank you good and proper when I return. That means no parties. Undertood?

Ciao.

no resolutions, only goals.

I may regret posting this publicly but here goes. This is my checklist for 2008.

  • Read 50 books.
  • Lose 50 lbs.
  • Finish writing Love Sux
  • Write at least 2 YA Proposals
  • Write at least 2 adult proposals (I cannot control what I sell, but I can control how hard I try)
  • Complete new website (ahem, Fishdog….)
  • Attend 1 writing related conference. (may not be RWA National. Depends on when we sell the house in Oxford)
  • Write 5 days a week.
  • Take a vacation with Fishdog. Just us.

My intention is to post updates and mark off the checklist when I complete each item. What are your goals? Resolutions? Or are you in the ‘fuck it. live and let live’ camp?

Last night’s soiree (pics in post below) at Birdrunner’s place was great. I met her family and discovered her sister Kate reads my blog. (or is it Cate? Never got around to proper name spelling in our conversations. Of course, if Kate had realized she’d be mentioned in my blog, she might’ve told me her name was Marvin. I can spell Marvin.) Too bad Stinkydog wasn’t there. Sorry to disappoint, but there wasn’t one drunk in the group. Kinda disconcerting actually. No fun drunk pics. Oh well.

For those of you wondering, yes, I made it to midnight. Barely. I was zombie-like and talking nonstop to keep myself awake.

Happy New Year guys. Maybe I’ll be witty and fun in 2008 and totally worth reading.

Or not. Whatever. Just shut up and read anyway.
