time out

I took a couple of days off this week. Originally, I had plans to go to Northwest Arkansas for a couple of days to visit my friend Dee. When those plans got changed, I decided to go to Oxford for a few days. But then my copy edits for LOVE SUCKS! came in so I decided to stay home, do laundry and work. My bank account also breathed a huge sigh of relief. I tend to overspend when I’m with my pals in Oxford. They’re all such bad influences! 😀

So I’m diligently working on my copy edits which will be shipped back to NY today. So I’ve taken a bit of a time out….but you know me, I can’t stand the sound of silence with no explanation, so I thought I’d let you know why I’ve been so quiet.

Have a great weekend!

mish and mash

This will just be a mishmash of news, updates, and whatever else I decide to tell y’all.

For the Mish part:

BITE ME! has gone into a 3rd printing….just a month into its release! I’m totally stoked about this. Now, has everyone out there bought their minimum of two copies yet? Remember, it’s a rule:

Her debut novel titled Bite Me! is scheduled to hit the shelves Fall 2009 on the shelves now and she totally expects everyone who has met her, talked to her, emailed her, or uttered her name to buy at least two copies.

LOVE SUCKS! has an official release date….July 27, 2010! (almost exactly a year to the date from BITE ME!) I should also have a cover soon, which I’m very excited about.

I started working on 2 new projects this week and I have a 3rd project waiting in the wings. It feels really good to be working on something new again!

And now for Mash (not to be confused for M*A*S*H):

Rader (not to be confused for RadAr from M*A*S*H not Mash) has joined the chess club. He came home last week and informed me he was either going to try out for Archery or Chess…and Chess won the battle.

Ian has already had a ‘bad’ haircut, which was actually a great haircut but he said it was too ‘Emo’ (not to be confused with Emo Phillips. One has nothing to do with the other) and we had to get it fixed. So my awesome Katie fixed him right up. Ian is now no longer ‘Emo.’ (apparently I like Emo. Go figure)

My Thurz Girls are saying goodbye to one of our favorite waiters tonight Paolo and his family are headed back home. It’s a sad day here in the Rock.

I don’t know what I’m going to wear to work today. Must get on that.

Any mish or mash you’d like to add?

I’m busy finishing edits, doing laundry and packing so I can head off to DC tomorrow for the RWA Conference!

Sorry. Just don’t have time to blog. Here, let me entertain you with this lovely little gem: Monty Python’s Knights of the Round Table, an interpretive dance by the original members of Star Trek…

stoopid hooman trick–I duz it right akshually

I’m alive! It’s true. No matter how much I wanted die this week, I actually made it through.

Sometimes I can be for reelz stoopid. I know it’s hard to believe, me being Mel the Awesome and all. But it’s true.

So sparing you all the gory details, because really, they don’t matter in the long run, I basically lost 2 weeks of work on Sunday.

Two full weeks I had been revising LOVE SUCKS! I had been taking my time, doing it right. blah blah blah.

And on Monday morning, I pulled up to finish and tweak (because they were due Monday) and I discovered they were gone. Almost completely gone.

Now, I know what happened. Like I said, the only detail that is important is the fact that I am for reelz stoopid sometimes.

Thankfully I have a fabulous editor who gave me the rest of the week to fix my stoopid hooman trick.

And because the revisions were so fresh on my mind, the only real thing that was getting in my way was time. Because, of course, I work on Tues, Wed, and Thurs.

Sleep? Highly overrated.

I actually had a bit of a melt down Wednesday night. It wasn’t pretty and thankfully only one person witnessed it via text message. I believe he referred to me as a ‘grilled cheese sandwich.’ Yeah, a nuclear grilled cheese. It was U-G-L-Y.

And I ain’t got no alibi.

But now it’s sitting in Awesome Editor’s inbox and I’m going to celebrate with a pedicure (am contemplating Kermit Green toes…thoughts?) and sleep.

Oh sleep…how I’ve missed you.

Next week, I’ll be doing a girl’s trip to Beaver Lake in NW Arkansas. Can’t wait. Not sure if I’ll have real internet access there (okay, not sure if I want real internet access) but last year I took lots of pics of wild life and posted all about it when I got home.

So if I’m not blogging til Wednesday, please forgive me!

I hope y’all have a great weekend. Tell me: what you got goin’ on?

it’s a monday

I’m over at Fictionistas today talking about nicknames. I’ve had my share of them–have you?

While I’m working my butt off today finishing up the revisions for LOVE SUCKS! y’all can tell me what fun things you did over the weekend.

And you can also swing by HAVE YOU BEEN BITTEN and read an excerpt from BITE ME! just click the ‘read an excerpt’ link under the book.

hmmm. What else is going on? Nothing really. Just feeling a little overwhelmed and behind lately. Trying to get myself together. Not an easy thing to accomplish when you’re just this side of whacked-out.

Oh, here’s an odd little tidbit I noticed last week. Almost every time I started the car, this song was on the radio. It happened so much, it became a game.

new stuff!

Today is a special day. Lucienne Diver allowed AJ Ashe the star of BITE ME! to answer a few questions on her blog today. Stop by to see what makes my teen vamp a little different from Gina Covello, the center of attention in Lucienne’s book, VAMPED.

And finally…today’s the big day. We’re launching my book website. It should be up and active around noonish central time. Stop by for fun downloads, a quiz, information on how the book came to be, and a maybe even a few pics of me from high school…bookmark it because very soon, we’re going to be hosting a contest that you will definitely want to participate in. Two very nice big prizes.

Don’t worry, I’m not abandoning you here. This will still be my daily blog and author info site. But HaveYouBeenBitten is all about the books…

Happy Monday. Hope your weekend was fabulous!

another busy day

I’ve been up since 4:30 working. I swear, there just aren’t enough hours in the day to accommodate me and my needs.

The countdown to Orlando has begun. This time next week, I’ll be getting ready to jet to Florida for the RT Convention and some face time with friends! I can’t wait to soak up the sun, soak up the booze, and soak up the energy from the conference.

This will be my first RT. I hear I’m in for a helluva time.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances last year (would anyone like to buy a house in Oxford, MS?) I didn’t get to do the conference thing. It was my first year to miss in 4 or 5 years. I was so upset. So I’m making up for it this year by adding RT to the mix.

I’m so ready.

But until then, I have a book that’s due. So it’s time I get back to it.

How was your weekend?
