a melfellaneous mish mash

So, the big ‘controversial’ news this week is that the AP Stylebook has removed the term “illegal immigrant” and officially replaced it with “undocumented immigrant.”

Good.

You know why it’s good? Because immigrants are human and humans cannot be illegal only their actions. They are literally people who entered the country illegally. This makes them undocumented (adjective describing the lack of legal paperwork to support the person’s presence) immigrants (noun the defines a person who comes to a country to take up residence).

It is illegal (adjective describing an action not authorized by law) for any person to immigrate to this country without documentation. Therefore they are undocumented immigrants.

Period.

If we don’t see them as humans, we begin to lose our humanity. Yes, we need immigration reform, but more than anything, we need to remember that immigrants (documented or otherwise) are human.

What else did I want to talk about this morning?

Oh yeah! My kid asked me this morning if I would take him to the hazynation reunion show this weekend. OMG. LOL This is a band that I first saw when they opened for the Gunbunnies at Juanita’s…another local favorite band at the time. We were at almost every local show they played for the longest time. There was this one chick who was also at every show that we called “Windmill chick”. She was awesome. She danced by windmilling her arms and doing this hoppy march to the beat.

Hmmmm. Anything else? The weather was awesomely stormy last night. There were some tornadoes in the state, but the majority of Central Arkansas just endured heavy rains, thunder, lightning and wind. And the temp dropped to in the 40s after being 80! Once the house cooled off, it was perfect snuggling weather.

Happy Thursday, y’all! Today is hair day! My Go Go Red will be shining bright like a ruby today!

Hope you enjoyed today’s Mel-O-Jumble. Get your sparkle on and make these clouds go away, you hear?

Happy Rack Day!

The Governor declared today to be Happy Rack Day. Okay fine, it’s really called Go Pink Friday, but I think I like Happy Rack Day better. Anyway, save the ta tas, wear pink. So I am.

I’m also supporting my little piggies because my pink shirt is also a razorback shirt. And let’s face it, they can use all the support they can get right now…

Also, I’m sporting my new hair cut. Thank you, Katie for bringing back my bangs. I have missed them so! And I do love my Go Go Red!!

It’s gonna get cold and rainy this weekend. No me gusta. Yes, I love fall, but not cold, rainy fall!

Anyway, hope you guys have a great weekend. Don’t forget to check for lumps…and remember, it’s okay to ask for help. 🙂

we just had ourselves a little Journey moment…

Yes, I’m a little bit excited about this:

Journey, Pat Benatar, and Loverboy in concert….

I even wore Rock-n-Roll hair today to celebrate the awesome. (actually, I wore bed-head hair as rock-n-roll hair but whatever.) See y’all at Verizon on October 9!

BTW, Hit Me With Your Best Shot was once upon a time my go to Karaoke song… There is a picture somewhere from a certain bachelorette party with me and my “date” for the night, (we named him Big Bob) “singing” a duet. Of course Big Bob was so full of hot air that he didn’t really sing at all.

Also, Journey has some of my all time favorite songs ever. Good Morning, Girl has always put a smile on my face…even if it is only 1 minute 44 seconds long.

Happy Friday y’all! Get your rock-n-roll hair on and have your own Journey moment this weekend!

Happy 5th!

Did my American friends enjoy your day off yesterday (if you had one?) Did you soak up sun and booze and shoot imaginary fireworks? Sorry about the burn bans. No sparklers for us this year!

We had a great day at JChris’s new apartment. We cooked out, laid out, and let it all hang out.  There was even some water volleyball.

BTW, my Bachelorette Hometown Date recap is posted. Sorry it was late. My internets at the house has been out so that makes for posting things to the internet very difficult. Hopefully ATT will sort this out today. No Me Gusta.

Today I get my hurs did! Yay!

Hairmageddon 2012

It was a very emotional day. I don’t think Rader actually realized how hard cutting his hair would be…he was joking and laughing for the first two cuts, and then broke down into horrible, heart-wrenching tears for the last two cuts. I was a bit torn about how to handle it because I didn’t want to cry but when you see your 14 year old mancub breaking down, it’s hard not to join him.

Here’s a picture play-by-play:

He didn’t love his hair at first, but after spending the weekend looking at himself, I think he’s totally smitten now.

Happy Memorial Day, USA! Please take the time to thank a service member for his or her dedication to our freedom.

sing it Alice Cooper!

SCHOOL’S OUT FOR SUMMER!

Well, sorta. School is definitely out for Ian, but Rader has 3 more days. We had his Convocation today…and I would like to proudly announce he received the Presidential Scholar Award for maintaining a 3.5 or higher GPA throughout 6th, 7th & 8th grades. this is the only pic I could get that was worth a damn.

Here we are after the ceremony.

All that hair is gonna be gone on Friday. Snipped, clipped and donated to Locks of Love. He’s thinking about going hardcore short…as in a buzz cut. My heart can’t take the thought of him not having any hair! But it’s his to grow and his to cut and not my place to tell him what he can and can’t do. Apparently he’s supposed to curl it for school tomorrow. His friends are really enjoying this last week of Hairmageddon.

Alrighty then. Tonight is guitar, then tomorrow is the beginning of a very long and awesome weekend. I can’t wait for Friday when I’m spending the day with my boys before spending the evening with my guy. I’ll have new nails, new toes and new hair…surely that means date night, right?

hairs day! prom! friends! wine! opossum!

Today I get my hairs did. Which is good, because my Go-Go Red needs to be punched up a bit.

We pick up Ian’s tux this afternoon. Prom. ❤

I had a great night with an old friend last night. Well, “old” as in lifelong…We hadn’t seen each other in a decade. It was amazing catching up with her. We will not wait so long to hang out again.

Another awesome thing about last night? She introduced me to a wonderful new wine. And you know I always love new wine. Especially when it’s in a bottle!! (Unless it is that crappy white zinfadel. That belongs in the toilet.)

Paul Hobbs Chardonnay. ZOMG. My taste buds and liver were so damn happy.

ION (of the weird variety) There was a possum in our backyard this morning. (or as one of my high school teachers would say: Miss McKenzie, that would be opossum. there is no such animal as a “possum”) Frieda Mae actually picked it up and carried it around like  puppy. I’M NOT KIDDING, PEOPLE! Picked. It. Up. Then it played dead. It was very committed to its role as dead possum. El Jefe scooped it up with a shovel and dust pan and placed it on the other side of the fence…where it continued to play dead.

Welcome to Arkansas.

If it’s still there when I get home, I’m going to name it Fred Finkle.

I’m back!

I took a much needed two week break from blogging. It was totally unplanned, but I’m glad I did it. Hope you guys are still around. If not, I’ll just talk to myself. I do that a lot anyway. Good thing I crack myself up…

First things, first…The Bachelor is back and so are my recaps at Hey Don’t Judge Me! Go forth, read and let’s discuss the crazy! Because trust me, this season will be full of some drama.

Lot’s of things went down over the holiday break. And by “lot’s of things” I actually mean sleep. I did lots of sleeping. I slept all the sleeps. It was fantastic.

I also got a haircut…

I like it. 🙂 I never like having the same ol’ boring hair year after year.

I hope y’all had a wonderful holiday and new year.

By the way, I don’t believe in resolutions, but I do think I could use a revolution this year…let’s make it happen.
