the upcoming week…

It’s Monday, and of course, I’m blogging over at Fictionistas. Pop over and say hi.

I’m currently at Beaver Lake with my girlfriends having a very good time. Look, read about last year’s trip here: Tales From Beaver Lake
For a funny bit of trivia, I just got a pedicure this weekend and my toes are painted Lizard Green. I love them.

Apparently last year, before I went on this very same trip, I had my toes painted the very same green.

I’ll blog lots when I get back–I’m sure I’ll have loads of material, just not sure I’ll be able to actually share any of it.

Well, it’s hard when you have to return home. LOL

I had the best time last week. It was so great to see my friends and meet some new ones. I enjoyed myself tremendously.

Here, let me show you:

Christina Cross vamping it up. *rowr*

Me and Deidre

sorry ’bout that

I kinda forgot to blog yesterday. I blame Jennifer Christmas Christman. From now on, it will always be her fault if I don’t blog.

Today is a cave day. If it’s not raining, I’ll head to Burns Park to see Rader play soccer, but it looks like it’s gonna be rainy all day. And I need to pack. Because just in case you haven’t heard, I’m running away to Florida for 10 days.

That’s right. 10 whole days. Orlando for the RT Convention.

I’ll be blogging during the week, possibly multiple times a day. I’ll also be a twittering fool. So be prepared.

Have a great Saturday! I’m off to pour myself another cuppa joe and start packing. Bathing suit? Check. Flip Flops? Check.

Done.

another busy day

I’ve been up since 4:30 working. I swear, there just aren’t enough hours in the day to accommodate me and my needs.

The countdown to Orlando has begun. This time next week, I’ll be getting ready to jet to Florida for the RT Convention and some face time with friends! I can’t wait to soak up the sun, soak up the booze, and soak up the energy from the conference.

This will be my first RT. I hear I’m in for a helluva time.

Due to some unforeseen circumstances last year (would anyone like to buy a house in Oxford, MS?) I didn’t get to do the conference thing. It was my first year to miss in 4 or 5 years. I was so upset. So I’m making up for it this year by adding RT to the mix.

I’m so ready.

But until then, I have a book that’s due. So it’s time I get back to it.

How was your weekend?

THE MONTH OF MEL! DAY the last

We’re here. The final day of THE MONTH OF MEL!

Let’s observe a moment of silence please.

Yesterday was pretty awesome. I had lunch with my friend Denton, then sat outside and soaked up some Vitamin D while I worked on my revisions. After a few hours, I was kidnapped by another friend, and whisked away to get a pedicure.

My toes no longer look like they were “painted with sidewalk chalk” as someone so eloquently put it before he kidnapped me…

I fell asleep pretty early last night, but woke up in the middle of the night to a wonderful thunderstorm. I enjoyed that for a while, before I finally drifted back off to sleep.

I believe this is the perfect ending to the perfect MONTH OF MEL!

Now the countdown begins to my trip to Orlando…

THE MONTH OF MEL! and they’re off!!!

If you need me, I’ll be here:

Doing some of this:

maybe cashing in a ticket or two:

Check twitter and Facebook for updates and pics…otherwise, I’ll see you back here on Monday!

Enjoy the last weekend of THE MONTH OF MEL! you deserve it!!

THE MONTH OF MEL! winding down

Man, I sure am tired. You guys have worn me out this month. Or I’ve worn myself out. Whatever.

I’ve not done all the items you tasked me to do and I apologize. I should’ve prepared better. Next year, I will ask for your suggestions earlier so that I can plan ahead. (Totally a new concept for me–work with me here)

Last night I went out with some girls from the office and had the best time. I also ran into a friend of mine from high school. She and her friend joined us and the party began. What started out as Happy Hour wound up being a Girl’s Night Out. So much fun! and I was so glad they office girls asked me to join them. I feel like I’m in the circle of trust now.

I love the circle of trust, don’t you?

Tomorrow is my birthday party at Oaklawn. We’re going to have a large crowd as usual. Pictures will be taken and hopefully no liquid hate will be consumed like last year. That did not end well. I will NOT repeat that dastardly event. Ever again.

I’m also counting down to my trip to Orlando. I can’t wait to see Maria Geraci again and be her Bunco Bitch at her Bunco Bash at the Romantic Times Convention.

Thursday, April 23: 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM
READER: BUNCO BABES BASH

THURSDAY: Come join Maria Geraci’s “Bunco Babes Bash”
“The Game that’s sweeping the nation!” A toss of the dice may bring you luck as you roll for prizes and enjoy refreshments, fun, and friends!
Prizes for High Bunco, Bunco Barbie, Bunco Bar Fly, Bunco Nazi… You get the drift, what happens at Bunco stays at Bunco. Come join us for the parlor game that has a long and “dicey” history!
Hosted by: Maria Geraci

I seriously cannot wait.

What’s going on this weekend for you guys? Anything fun?

The MONTH OF MEL! Not feeling the blog luv today

Yeah, I’m just not feelin’ it. I think I’m finally on a blog crash after such a big week!

Last night I had dinner with an old friend. We figured out that it has been 19 years since we were last together. (we ran into each other briefly when I was pregnant with Rader, but that doesn’t count) We laughed and argued a lot. It was great. I love to argue. Seriously, I have a gift.

Today I had lunch with my girlfriend TK. I brought Rader and she had her daughter as well. If that kick to my shin under the table was any indication, I think Rader may have had a wee crush on her daughter.

I’m supposed to be cleaning my stinky house right now, but I’m not. I really need to go take a nap after my burger and malt lunch. Maybe I’ll nap first, clean later?

Yeah. That sounds like a plan.

Peace! If you guys have anything to talk about, please feel free to use my comment section to discuss.

the MONTH OF MEL: the list and a limerick

The MONTH OF MEL just got a little more interesting…

My friend Lee (aka Stinkydog) who will be birthin’ a baby any minute now, decided to add to the MONTH OF MEL to do list. Now it’s officially game on.

Here was the list before Lee:

  • Video me singing Duran Duran’s Rio (very dangerous)
  • Hot pink or purple streak in my hair
  • Video of me Zumbaing (Thanks, Ayla–seriously)
  • A short story including some online friends (The Romance Divas)
  • Mel in a prom dress
  • Something involving a clown (I want to know if “murdering the clown” counts as something)

And here are Lee’s additions:

  • go to dim sum and try the chicken feet. (can I just say EW? and really? People eat those? ON FREAKING PURPOSE???)
  • fly a kite
  • buy a cool vintage dress on ebay. (this has been amended because I don’t use ebay anymore thanks to an online hacker)
  • make a music video to your favorite current song–post it on youtube. (I was going to say “make a dance video,” but I believe the zumba may already cover it??)
  • write a short story using my dogs and your dogs as the main characters.
  • carry a digital camera with you at all times and take a picture anytime you see two people kissing.
  • go to a bar you would normally never go to. (like there is such a thing)
  • make me a work of art using only crayons.
  • wear Red every single day for a week.
  • recreate your favorite scene from a movie and take a picture of it for us

Because most of these things take a little prep time, I will start working on my to do list tomorrow. I can’t promise a pic/video everyday, but I do promise to do my best.

And because this is the MONTH OF MEL we should have a MEL POST so I give you a MEL LIMERICK

There once was the MONTH OF MEL
the celebration started off quite well
until she slipped with a meat cleaver
and gave herself a fever
and the only cure was more COWBELL!

The MONTH OF MEL begins today

Technically, it began at midnight Saturday night, and I rang in the month very appropriately.

I pulled an all-nighter. I don’t remember the last time I did that…but I’ll tell you it took me all day yesterday to recover. Wow. I’m not as young and agile as I used to be.

A high school classmate got married Saturday afternoon and a bunch of old friends came into town for the wedding. Friday night we went to Cajun’s and I got smart. I drank very little, and we left before midnight. I could see where the party was headed and I knew I was going out Saturday night as well, so I was a very smart girl and left.

But Saturday night? I partied like it was the end of an era.

I’m a lucky girl. I’ve maintained a ton of relationships from high school. We don’t get together often, but when we do–wow. Amazing. These people are very important to me and I’m really blessed to have them in my life still. Let me tell you though–it’s good that we only do this every once in a while, because I’m getting too old for all-nighters.

Some pics of the weekend:

I really am a very lucky girl to have friends like these still in my life.
