out with the old…

It’s time to purge. Clean out my closets…sweep up the cobwebs…scrub the baseboards of my life.

And yes, I’m being both literal and metaphorical because that’s how I roll.

I started boxing up some old clothing yesterday. Actually, it would be more accurate to say I “bagged up” some clothes that I just don’t wear anymore. And I’m cleaning out my closet this afternoon and doing the same. When you live in a small space you have to be creative with storage. And who wants to waste what little storage there is on clothing that isn’t worn? Not me said the flea.

Our new furniture is being delivered on Thursday, and so I’m making a fresh start…And since Mother’s Day is this weekend, I’m thinking my boys will be making a fresh start in their rooms as well. “Mom what do you want for M-Day?” Flowers to plant, mani/pedi gift cert…and FOR YOU TO CLEAN YOUR ROOMS.

Hmmmm. Let’s see which of those three items I actually get.

I also want them to cook me breakfast Sunday morning…is it wrong to ask them to fix me the perfect Bloody Mary, too? Probably. But who cares? I’m already the “world’s greatest mom” anyway…this will just add one more notch on my awesome mom belt. (BTW, the perfect Bloody Mary is made with Zing Zang, Black Pepper Vodka, Green Olives and a lime) (spicy green beans/asparagus optional.)

Thanks for all the sweet words, texts, & FB comments about our beloved BCGS. He will be missed. In other cat of the awesome news, check out the world’s dirtiest cat, Clementine:

This cat is bad-ass. She brings us birds all the time. Killed a possum an opossum last week. And sadly, she got herself a bunny over the weekend. She’s a hardcore hunter. I bet she would even outwit Predator.

Clementine vs. Predator: Hunter Games

Yeah. I crack myself up.

Later y’all! Have a great Tuesday!

here we go again

It’s Monday morning, I’m at my desk but wishing I was still in bed. If you know me at all, this should not surprise you…

We had a fairly uneventful weekend. I mean, other than the heart attack and stroke we had on Friday after paying the vet bill for 2 dogs. Obviously, paying the bill affected them too, as both Ruby and Trinity spent all night in this position:

It was (obviously) very hard work going to the vet. The good news is, Trin Trin is healthy and Ruby-Doo’s skin infection is clearing up.

Saturday I finally regained some of that elusive energy that I’ve spent months trying to find. I’ve been no fun lately, so when I woke up before 8:00 and felt like cleaning, I knew I was getting back on track. I did a little shopping, then came home and scrubbed my bathroom. Sunday, I deloused and defunked the boys’ rooms. Then I took a boiling hot shower in bleach. I may never rid myself of the stench of teenage boy and sweaty feet.

So even though I didn’t get to do anything very exciting, I did accomplish quite a bit. \o/

Are you watching Downton Abbey? OMG I ❤ that show. Last night had me choked up. I’m such a girl.

The Month of Mel is just 10 days away. I’m thinking I should start myself another “to do” list for the year. Give me some fun goals to work toward. Give myself the things I’ve always wanted but have never gotten. Like buy myself a pair of diamond earrings. Get my passport. Go somewhere exotic. Learn to belly dance. Get another tattoo…Should I try for 43 things to do at 43?

Oh and one more thing. Another daffodil popped up over the weekend, so I gave it to one of Baby Bear’s ladies….cool, huh?

CLEANish

I spent the weekend cleaning.

THIS is what I pretended I looked like:

This is what I actually looked like:
Minus the smile + a glass bottle of wine.
I’ve been neglecting my house lately which may or may not say much becaue I’m not much of a housekeeper anyway. I’ve adopted the Joan Rivers attitude when it comes to cleaning:

Don’t clean. No man will ever make love to a woman because she waxed the linoleum- “My God, the floor’s immaculate. Lie down, you hot bitch.” ~Joan Rivers

True enough. And if waxing the linoleum (not a euphemism) ever became his idea of foreplay (floor play? bwahahahaha) I’d send him packing anyway. I’m not that chick.
BUT even I have my tipping point when it comes to an unclean very cluttered house, and this weekend I’d reached it. I’m not sure what came over me (I think my clone took over, honestly) but before I knew what was happening, I had a bucket of bleach water, a sponge, and I was on my hands and knees cleaning the floors. (again, not a euphemism, but I suppose it probably could be since I looked “so hot” in my French Maid outfit. *cough*)
I finally gave out last night around 7:30. I still have stuff left to do, and have plans to finish it tonight. Mostly just folding laundry and putting it away. I’m hoping that actually happens, because let’s face it, if the laundry doesn’t get put away, it’s like all that work I did was for nothing because there will be piles and piles of laundry everywhere that we’ll just live off of until it’s all dirty again and then I’ll have to start all over.
Which is why I never clean, because why bother? You’re just gonna have to do it again. And you and I both know that a clean house is a sign of a boring person…and I’m anything but boring.
Hope you had a great weekend!

hello weekend. my how I’ve missed you.

Weekend plans = cleaning, rearranging some furniture, watching a movie or two, and hanging out with Birdrunner by her pool…there will possibly be some Beer-Rita consumption going on…possibly.

I’ve been missing Birdrunner. She’s accused me of moving to Saline county and abandoning her. This is completely untrue. It’s just that I’ve switched where I get my pedicures and I haven’t been able to go with her in a while. BUT I’m thinking maybe I can convince her to come along with me next time and meet Lola the Toe Girl. She’s pretty amazing.

The boys are going to the lake on Saturday with their daddy and some other friends. It sounds like a good time will be had by all. I am seriously looking forward to some down time. I’ve been going nonstop for 3 or more weeks, and it’s time for a break.

Plus, I’ve been plotting my new books and now it’s time to start tweaking the synopsis and writing! I’m actually eager to start writing…but it’s a super sekrit story. I will say it involves a mean step mother, lizards, faeiries and a parallel universe… oh and there’s royalty and a sorceror and some speedy guardian turtles. Or maybe I’m making all that up. OH wait! That’s what I do! Make stuff up!

Stay tuned!

Okay, here’s this week’s random iPhone picture. I figure it’s appropriate since I’ll be at the pool tommorrow!

whatever

It’s Monday. I’m tired. I spent the weekend deep cleaning and all I want to do now is curl up in a ball and sleep.

I blogged over at Fictionista’s today about McDonald’s being a bully. Check it out.

Saints beat Vikes last night. It was a helluva game.

Maybe I’ll have more to say tomorrow. Maybe not. Check back then to find out.

getting back to it

Routine…I have a love/hate relationship with it.

Routine can often mean rut and frankly, I’m not the kinda girl who is okay with being in a rut. Change is good for the soul.

However, routine can also mean order, consistency, and a clean(er) house. I AM very much ready for that.

Sent Ian off to school today. It is his first day as a Sophomore and for this member of the Francis family, it is also the first day of getting back on a routine.

This summer has been a whirlwind of waking up, doing stuff, and going to bed. There has been no routine. It was a nice break, but after 10 weeks, it’s time for the break to be over. I mean, I even fell out of laundry routine! Clean and folded clothes are highly overrated.

The last 2 days I spent cleaning out Ian’s room. Yes, I’m aware he should be doing this, but frankly, I wanted it done right the first time…Now his room is actually cleaner than mine. (mainly b/c I have 3 baskets of laundry that need to be folded. I promise, it’s on my to do list!)

Today we work on Rader’s room, my room and my desk. The desk area gets a little out of hand during edits/revisions. Plus it also becomes the cemetery for the things I take out of Ruby’s mouth. Like applesauce containers, Mountain Dew bottles, my wallet (she takes my purse off the chair and gets into it when she’s mad at me) chapstick, chewed up pencils and pens.

Do you guys keep a routine during the summer or take a break. Which do you think is better? I’m not a structure girl by any stretch, but I’m beginning to think maybe I need a bit more in my life. Or maybe I just need a fairy godmother…

The MONTH OF MEL! Not feeling the blog luv today

Yeah, I’m just not feelin’ it. I think I’m finally on a blog crash after such a big week!

Last night I had dinner with an old friend. We figured out that it has been 19 years since we were last together. (we ran into each other briefly when I was pregnant with Rader, but that doesn’t count) We laughed and argued a lot. It was great. I love to argue. Seriously, I have a gift.

Today I had lunch with my girlfriend TK. I brought Rader and she had her daughter as well. If that kick to my shin under the table was any indication, I think Rader may have had a wee crush on her daughter.

I’m supposed to be cleaning my stinky house right now, but I’m not. I really need to go take a nap after my burger and malt lunch. Maybe I’ll nap first, clean later?

Yeah. That sounds like a plan.

Peace! If you guys have anything to talk about, please feel free to use my comment section to discuss.

I’m still alive–but

But the house isn’t finished. I swear, next time I go on strike, I’m going to prepare and freeze 2 months of meals in advance and hire a weekly housekeeper. (of course, I hope by ‘next time’ I’ll already have a housekeeper coming every other week…) I live in a frat house with animals.

So today’s goal is the living room, finish the laundry, mop all the floors, and organize my bedroom closet.

Part of the organizing is going to entail getting rid of shoes I don’t wear, as well as all the clothes I’ve ‘undergrown’ (because I’m not going back).

I’m also going to the gym today…I registered for my March 15 race this morning, so I have to make sure I’m going to be able to actually run that bitch. YAY ME!

I posted some pics on Ficitonistas from Saturday’s day with the boys at the races. Pop over and see them! I’m also going to be over at FCR today sometime. It’s Monday, so I’m making the rounds!

if you don’t hear from me…

It’s because the dustbunnies, filth, grime, mold, and other assorted nasties that have taken over my house have kidnapped me. If they request a ransom, don’t give in! Just take over the cleaning. Eventually, they’ll let me go.

Today is not the day of rest around these parts. At least not for me. Hopefully I’ll return tomorrow with a clean house and a clean fresh state of mind.
