tuesday already?

Yesterday went by in a blur. I wrote, wrote, wrote…did the Mom thing, when to Whole Foods, came home and wrote again.

I’m pretty sure I ate yesterday. Not positive though.

Oh I know I had Lucky Charms yesterday because I tweeted about the joy they bring me

Today is a work day for me. Then back to writing. I’m pretty sure Rader has soccer tonight.

I need an assistant. Any volunteers? The pay is crap but the benefits? Okay they’re crap, too. But your working environment would be fun…

erm

3:30 came very early today.

That is all.

Okay, maybe that’s not all…

So I’m working on revisions for LOVE SUCKS! (see 3:30 rise time. Somehow I gotta fit in real job and dream job all in one day.) During this process I’ve discovered that the music I wrote the book to is not necessarily the music I can listen to while I revise. Curious, yes?

Anyway, my revision mood has been a much more laid back, less angsty sound than my writing mood. Joshua Radin, John Waite, Landon Pigg, and some old school stuff like Boston, Abba (shut up!) Hall & Oates… Totally eclectic mix.

Another artist that I’ve discovered over the past few months (I love Pandora radio!) is Matt Nathanson. I adore his voice. And this song is one of my new faves off his album. (It doesn’t hurt that he’s pretty damn easy to look at…) If you like the song, you’ll like the whole CD. He’s definitely a ‘Must Buy’

yeah yeah yeah

I know it’s April Fool’s Day but I got nuttin’ for ya. Been up for a while working on my revisions. I’m not pulling my hair out yet, but close. There just never seem to be enough hours in the day lately.

Music-wise, I’ve been in a John Waite mood lately, and have been listening to him quite a bit. Last night while I was fixing meatballs for our meatball sammiches, I was rockin’ out with my iPod out…Singing (or screeching) aloud. I’m pretty sure I saw one neighbor’s ears start to bleed and another neighbor’s head popped clean off his body. My bad. I was enjoying the hell out of this song.
John Waite and Alison Kraus: Missing You

They both have such unique voices. I could listen to this song over and over and over.

Oh wait. I have been.

THE MONTH OF MEL! DAY 30

In like a Lion out like a Lamb.

Yup. That’s exactly how I would describe THE MONTH OF MEL! We had a roaring good time, but now we’re exiting quietly.

Even though this will be a quiet week, it will still be a busy one for me.

I’ve started revising LOVE SUCKS! and it still needs quite a lot of work. I’m okay with that, but I’m not okay with the way my house looks right now. It’s distracting. Fur balls as big as my ass are starting to talk amongst themselves. I fear a take over is imminent. A fur ball rising is in my near future. (was that a CCR song?) Something must be done!

But I can’t worry about the fur balls and the dust bunnies right now. (I’ll have to worry if they join forces, but until then…) I have to do some revisions. Rewrite the opening scene, have a little face time with Sexy Lexy (oh, you haven’t met him yet…you’re in for a treat) and cut a couple of plot lines that never fully developed. It’s gonna be a lot of work, but I’m Mel..and well, I can do it. Right? Riiiiiiiight.

I’ll be blogging over at Fictionistas today about April Fool’s Jokes…pranks and what not. So swing by and check it out!

THE MONTH OF MEL! DAY 29

I had the best time yesterday. I have the best friends. I am very lucky.

This picture sums yesterday up brilliantly.

I’m pretty sleepy and tired today. Am out of the house getting some much needed Vitamin D and working on my revisions.

But I’d rather be sleeping.

good morning!

wow. 4:30 came early today. Yes, I was an early riser this morning. On purpose.

I’ve been tweaking the final draft of LOVE SUCKS! which is due to editor today. Still need to put a few final touches on last chapter, but overall, I love this story. LOVE IT.

Which is a nice feeling since about 3 weeks ago, I did not feel the same way. Not even close. LOL

Anyway, today’s blog is an update, not a real blog. Maybe this afternoon I’ll feel inspired to blog. If not, check back tomorrow!

it is done (sorta)

LOVE SUCKS! the follow up to this year’s debut novel BITE ME! is now sitting in delightful editor’s inbox.

It’s done. Mostly.

This book really did become that piece of meat that you chew and it just keeps growing. And the more you chew, the bigger it gets, and then it becomes a challenge. You become determined to chew that meat and swallow it, even though you would like nothing more than to spit it out and start over.

I started writing yesterday morning at 5:00 AM and I thought I probably had 35 pages or so to get me through to the climatic scene.

Last night, I sent to editor at 10:39 PM…and I had written 52 pages. I have never in my life written that many pages in a day.

This is what I looked like when I went to bed:
Seriously, it was bad. Not the writing, but the feeling. Holy Cow I was tired. And my brains were leaking out of my ears. That was messy.

I’m better today. Much better.

The book is done. EXCEPT for the final wrap up chapter. But I know what’s going to happen, and that won’t take much to write. The hard part is done. Now the fun begins.

Editing and revising. It needs it, but honestly, I can’t wait to dig in. I really love this story (now that it’s finished) and I’m ready to make it as awesome as I am.

BTW I look much better this morning.

TGIF (THANK GOD IT’S FINISHED!)

where’s my coffee?

I can’t believe it’s Monday. I can’t believe it’s February. I can’t believe I haven’t left my desk in over a week.

I miss living. I miss working out. I miss real food.

I did finally shower yesterday. My family was thankful.

The Book That Will Not End is not done yet. It’s close. Soooo close, but not done. But it will be. Just you wait and see. And when it is, there will be a party.

BTW, look what the Universe sent me today:

How will you answer those, Melissa, who will one day look at your utterly amazing life, complete with good book deal and cool friends, and say, “Yeah, but for you it was easy”?

Huh, huh, huh?
The Universe

That’s kinda funny, huh? Good old Universe.

I’m back at Fictionistas today, after taking the last two Mondays off. Pop over and see me. But before you go, can you please fix me another cup of coffee? Thanks.

Also, my cross-continental buddy walked her first half-marathon and has documented it in a couple of posts over at FCR. Jump over there and congratulate her! I’ll be back over there sometime this week. When I finally peel my ass out of my chair and hit the pavement again.
