back again! Sorta…

Went to Oxford for an awesome signing on Saturday. Returned Sunday. Headed back today to finally close on the house we’ve been trying to sell for 2 years. Yes. It’s true. Thank you, Universe.

I’m over at Fictionistas today talking about signs and local customs. You won’t wanna miss it. Here, let me give you a preview of my favorite street sign ever:

going back to O-town…

Get your mind out of the gutter. I swear.

This weekend, fellow Arkansas YA Author Stacey Jay (she writes the best little zombie books around) and I (is that proper grammar? I just doesn’t sound right…I know, I’m the writer, I should know these things, but I’m tired, have had only 1 cup of coffee, and am not firing on all cylinders yet.) Anyway…WE will be in Oxford, Miss. this weekend.

There may be one slight change–it is possible that we’ll be at OFF Square Books instead of Jr. So if we’re not at one, we’re at the other. The good news is, they’re only a block away from each other so really, it’s not biggie.

I’m looking forward to being back in Oxford. I miss my pals and the kids there. I know my boys are happy to be going back for a night. It will be a fun time all around. I hope y’all are ready because I plan to make all of you stay and play. It’s a rule…and since I’m the Queen, you have to obey.

Hope to see you all there!

TGIF

So it’s Friday. And yes, I know I have no right to be happy about it since I just returned from Sungoddessville, but I don’t care. I’m happy.

Oh and it’s also May Day. Have fun wrapping up those May Poles today… (hmmm, I’m gonna let the safe sex euphemism go I think. Yep. This is me, letting it go.)

This will be a busy weekend. Tonight I have a soccer game to attend as well as a meeting with the lovely and talented Stacey Jay over a workshop we’re doing for our local writing group. (have you picked up her book yet? YOU ARE SO UNDEAD TO ME is such a great read. Go forth and buy it now. And while you’re there, pre-order BITE ME! <–shameless plug. Sue me. It's my blog!) Then tomorrow morning, I'm headed to Oxford (hey peeps! I'll be there 1 day and 1 day only! I'm up for lunch if you wanna holla!) I have a meeting with a Realtor at 2:00, we're going to put the HOUSE THAT WILL NOT GO AWAY back on the market. I know it will sell this time, but damn, I don't ever wanna go through this again. After that I'm meeting up with multi-pubbed hottie author ACE ATKINS who has been pimping me like the high class hooker I am to all the booksellers he knows. And he has some stuff to discuss with me. Which means I’ll buy him a beer and soak up whatever he has to offer. Then at 5:00 or so I’m having food and beverages with my friend Andrea who I’ve missed like a major organ. Then it’s a night on the square…or not. We’ll see.

Sunday, I drive home. Rest. And start over again on Monday.

Y’all got any big plans?

For today’s video, I Cure you…

SELL BABY SELL!

I’m re-purposing the RNC’s favorite mantra of Drill Baby Drill and making it my own.

SELL BABY SELL.

After taking a weekend off, I’m now heading back to Oxford. Hopefully this will be the last ‘mow’ of the season. Am also hoping this will be the last trip forever, because we need to sell. Big time.

But you know that, so I’m not going to dwell on it anymore.

Sorry I wasn’t around yesterday, I was tweaking my latest proposal. I sent it off to Deidre last night and now I’m going to start focusing on finishing up LOVE SUX! SUCKS!

Yes, we’ve changed the title slightly of the follow up book to BITE ME! Personally, I preferred SUX! (I think it looks better than SUCKS!) but it’s not a big deal. I love the title and wanted to keep it, so really that’s what matters. I’ve gotten lucky to be able to keep both of my titles so far. I dread the day I’m told it has to change. I know that usually the change is for the better, but still, it will suck! <– see what I did there? I haz a clever.

I haven’t really had much to say in the political arena lately. Mainly because I don’t really have anything new to say. There was an article in the local paper yesterday about folks stealing yard signs. I know two other people who’ve had their Obama signs taken around here. I have heard that a few McCain signs have been taken, but I haven’t spoken to anyone personally who’s had their McPalin sign stolen.

That’s about it. Gotta get the young un to school and hit the road. I’ll try to tweet and keep y’all updated here if anything good happens.

Peace!

More Pics from the Debate!

Sorry I wasn’t around yesterday. I got caught up cleaning and forgot to blog. Oops! Today I am going to a funeral and then spending the day with my mom. We’re supposed to clean out my stuff she’s been storing for me since high school. Hopefully I’ll find all my albums I kept. And by albums, I mean actual LPs not CDs. (unless she accidentally sold those in a garage sale…)

Meanwhile, enjoy some more piccies from Oxford.

and a social life found them again; and it was good.

We moved to Oxford from Little Rock, 6 years ago. We were just entering our 30s and we had a pretty happening social life, even with two kids under 6–mainly because we lived around family and frankly, you couldn’t keep them away from the first grandbabies.

So, every Friday night, my Mom would pick up the boys and I would meet the girls for our weekly Girl’s Night Out. My girls were a group of teachers. (Hi ladies!) It was a nice mix–a couple of singles, the rest married–only a couple of Moms. We were a great group and no topic was off limits. (By the way, teachers KNOW how to party. They have all that pent up frustration with unruly kids and unreasonable parents…it’s a blast to be around. I miss them terribly.)

The guys would meet us out after 9 and we’d couple up and sometimes we’d stay in the group and sometimes we’d go off on our own.

We did this pretty much every week. We didn’t pull all nighters very often, but on occasion, we’d end the night at a local gay bar dancing our feet off.

We moved to Oxford and that just STOPPED. On a dime. Without warning.

I went through withdrawals. I am a social butterfly–always have been. And though I love my time alone on occasion, I thrive in a crowd of friends.

This town has been hard for us to find a fit because we didn’t go to school here and we’re not Rebel fans. (Go Hogs! Woo Pig Sooie!) We’re not real churchy–hey, that’s the benefit of being catholic, right? LOL and we’re not rolling in the dough. We’re at an odd age…not old, but not young enough to really fit in. Not that we care about fitting in, we care about finding a group of friends to hang with that we enjoy. And sometimes age makes a difference.

Recently, we’ve started finding ourselves among the social again. It’s been a breath of fresh air. I truly have missed the crowds and the camaraderie. It lifts me up…makes me feel better–if not a little tired. LOL

So, this week, I have plans Tuesday-Thursday with tentative plans on Friday. This is after my all night party in Memphis this past Saturday. I almost don’t know what to do with myself. LOL

It’s such a nice feeling to finally have a group that I’m comfortable enough with to go out and enjoy myself. It only took me six years of living here to find it. I just hope I’m not too old to truly enjoy it now! LOL
