whew! what a weekend.

photo(122) See how tired Ruby is? Poor girl, she just can’t keep her head up.

(You should have heard her heavy sighs and puggly growly noises…)

So Friday I got to take Rader Tater to Oxford! Which means I got to see some dear friends and have a low-key dinner at a new-to-me place: The Bar on North Lamar…which is officially The Lamar Lounge.

The food was great and the atmosphere was chill and a good time was had by all.

Saturday morning, Drea and I walked to another of my favorite places, The Honeybee Bakery. Excellent brunch…but one of the weirdest experiences ever. For some reason, they thought it was appropriate to ask us to remove our hats! Um, no. This is not some ‘chi-chi’ swank place in New York. This is a bakery.  So we told them, yes we minded (OMG, we had just walked over a mile to get there, it was hot! And our hair was a mess under our hats) and we asked if we could sit outside to eat our brunch. They approved our request and we enjoyed our quiche and our hats.

The boys had decided to get their dad another frog item or a goat item for Father’s Day. (He has a thing about frogs and goats) We talked about a wind chime or something to hang up in the yard. I was given permission to do the frog hunting for them, since they weren’t able to get together and go themselves like they did for me. There is a new garden store on the west side of Oxford called The Barn and I found a really cool wrought iron and stone frog and the boys approved.

While we were out shopping, I finally got to try on a pair of MONKEY SHOES! I’ve wanted a pair since forever, and finally spoke to someone who was able to help me find the right oneW3333s to suit my needs. I really want to use them for my run/walks…I’ve always been a barefoot girl at heart, so I figure these shoes will be perfect for me.  (btw, the ‘real’ name of these shoes is Five Fingers, but whatever. They’re MONKEY SHOES!)  I can’t wait to order me a pair.  Probably next month! YAY ME!

I drove back to LR on Saturday, and watched The Dark Knight Rises with El Jefe and Ian. Then Sunday we had a cookout at the Compound with Lynne and Stacey Jay and her fam. Burgers, dogs, watermelon, guacamole, wine! It was an awesome day.

The weekend ended with the return of TRAINWRECK TV…also known as True Blood.

Oh, and Jefe is so damn sweet. He bought me some plant food for my maters and black out curtains for the boys’ rooms because he is so full of awesome.

Stay tuned for a letter to Walgreens…because after last Friday…we are NEVER, EVER, EVER getting back together.

a Mel-O-Jumble

Bootcamp was great last night. My legs are definitely getting stronger as is my core. Our trainer, Marietta, is offering a 5:00 a.m. yoga class starting next week that I’d really like to do, but I’m afraid I can’t get my butt up and get there that early.

However, I think I’m gonna give it a go. It’s once a week for 4 weeks. I’m a big girl. I can do it. I’ll just put my grown up pants on and get out of bed. (What that really means is, I’ll just sleep in my yoga clothes, roll out of bed and head to the gym half awake.)

Arkansas plays Ole Miss this weekend here in Little Rock. If any of y’all are headed here from Oxford, give me a shout. Jefe and I are probably gonna hit the tailgating early. I have to have Rader at the stadium by 6:30 a.m. to assist the parking. It’s an early game, so I’m thinking there will be a lot of solo cups full of bloody maries and mimosas!

Halloween is next week! I keep getting costume emails. Why do these costume stores think ALL women want to go as “SWAT Hottie” or Sexy WHATEVER. Ugh. My new favorite? Sexy Bat.

Someone in my family used to say “People who dress as the slutty witch for Halloween, are just slutty and the holiday just gives them an excuse to flaunt it.”

Thankfully I’m okay with being sexy year around. This year, I just want to wear a fun wig and makeup. My sexiness is natural, enhancing it with such a costume might cause a rift between universes. I can’t be responsible for that.

Though I will admit that it might be a lot of fun to be a slutty big bird….Feathers and fishnets OH MY!

Whatever you decide to be for Halloween, wear it well. And if you decide to be a slutty bat this year, please stop by the PartyHood so I can see it! Warning, I will judge you based on the advertisement. You better have the rack to fill that top! I wanna see your tits plunging forward and giving people black eyes!

places to go; people to see

Hoping to arrive in Oxford today just in time for Happy Hour. It will be the happiest hour of all if I get to see you there! Yes you. And even YOU! (sorry…not you though…)

Rader’s BFF still lives there and they haven’t had a chance to nerd out in a while, so after football practice this morning, we’re heading over.

Speaking of football…Check my monkey boy out. Half pads practice this morning. Aw. Why am I being all squishy about this?

OMG. I do have a heart. Shhhhhh. Don’t go spreading those ugly rumors that I’m sentimental and soft. I like it when people think I have no soul. Now, where’s my tissue. I’ve got something watery in my eye.

silence is golden

For the first time in a few weeks, I didn’t hear one anonymous word yesterday. Hmmmm. Ironic, no? Eh, I’m not kidding myself that it’s over, but damn, yesterday sure was nice. And today is awesome. (If you missed my little note to a certain “Anonymous” please feel free to click here and read.)
ETA: I’ve removed that blog because I’m removing any negativity from my life…It’s amazing how quickly the ugly can overpower the beautiful.

Sorry. Couldn’t resist one last poke. There you go Anonymous. Two free days of attention. You’re welcome.

Now moving on to awesome stuff…I worked out with a trainer last night. He wasn’t necessarily my kinda guy…he was too full of hot air and motivational poster moments, but he definitely knew how pump up the volume on my workout. My legs were jelly when we finished and climbing the stairs have been slightly challenging today.

In other awesome stuff, I think we’re gonna pack up and take the boys to Oxford tomorrow for the Double Decker festival. We’ve missed our peeps and we really wanna go play. ETA: no Oxford tomorrow now. Plans have changed. Tis okay, will be heading that way soon…

In news of the weird, look what we woke up to find this morning:

Black Rot and Pecan Trees don’t mix very well…
And with that, my Friday blog is over. Happy Weekend y’all! It feels good to feel good again…

Oxford Recovery

If you haven’t seen my FB pics of the trip, click here.

The weekend was AMAZING. I don’t think anything could have made it better. Well, maybe winning the lottery, but even that would have just been extra whipped cream.

Jefe and I have great friends.

The first half of the game was slightly painful. I was sitting with the enemy–my people were just a section away, so it could have been worse. And my enemies were quite nice to me over all. Even when we were down 17-0.

The person who picked on me the most was my own sweet boyfriend. I believe the text message BOOM! Headshot! just as the announcer said OLE MISS 17; ARKANSAS: NOTHING.

But his tune changed by the time we made it back to the grove. Yes, I was all smiles.

It was a perfect weekend for football and friends.

ION, Rader P F will be shadowing my bestie Jenn Christman on Thursday. He’ll be on B98.5 from 7-8 a.m. then heading over to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette to do some Newsie work. I think they’ll be doing a food review that day too, so he’s all smiles about that. If you’re around, listen for my boy on the radio that morning!

I blame Max

For introducing me to blueberry vodka. From now on…it’s all his fault. Always.

Oxford was fun. We swam, played, rested, rinse, repeat. The weather was damn near perfect! I think it was only mid-80s on Saturday, which felt like a damn cold wave compared to the triple digits we’d been experiencing lately.
Many, many thanks to the Watson’s for giving us a bed to sleep in and a pool to swim in and a fridge to store our beverages in! (I think I left my hair dryer…oops)
We saw HP7 part deux while in town. I liked the movie a lot and thought that overall they did the series justice with way they filmed it. Snape’s story line was beautifully told and very touching. I got a little tear a couple of times, but didn’t openly cry like I had been warned I would do. Guess I’m hardcore and didn’t even know it.
I think I might try to actually WRITE SOMETHING this week. I spent much of the drive plotting a couple of story ideas…something I haven’t really done in a long time. When I wrote BITE ME and LOVE SUCKS I actually plotted them out during my drives from Oxford to Little Rock. I guess the only thing that has changed is the direction of the drive…wish me luck!

tax day. need brainz

heh. That’s how I felt after doing my taxes.

This was a very busy weekend but it was a very good one. One more weekend to go before El Jefe and I reside in the same state again. We won’t be next door neighbors this time, but it sure will make having lunch on a Wednesday much easier…

I’m pretty tired and ready to relax with the kids and Gooby Ruby tonight. I missed the little pug (but don’t tell her that because she’ll take full advantage of it and ask for things like cake.) I hope the terrorists kittehs have left the house standing… And this time, they better have charged a cover for their cage matches. They gotta start earning their room and board!

nothing to see here…

Move along. I’m actually really busy today. Work, paperwork for new gig, some house stuff, girl’s night out & El Jefe. Oh and then there’s the 100 Million other errands I’ll end up doing in between. Enjoy this song that I’ve recently fallen in love with and hopefully I’ll blog before I head to Oxford tomorrow. If not…see ya next week!

scared of everything

Baby: Me? I’m scared of everything. I’m scared of what I saw, I’m scared of what I did, of who I am, and most of all I’m scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I’m with you.

I bet you thought I was gonna quote “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.” Didn’t you? That would be like saying “You had me at hello.” was my favorite line from Jerry McGuire. Seriously, just because everyone knows it and quotes it, doesn’t make it any less cheesy or cliche. (and my favorite line from Jerry McGuire is actually “Did you know the human head weighs 8 pounds?”)

Dirty Dancing is my all time favorite movie. It came out my senior year in high school and it was just the RIGHT movie and the RIGHT time for me. Also, I’m a huge fan of opposites attract/rich vs. poor love stories.

Embedding was disabled, but here’s a link to the clip I quoted. It is hands down, one of the sexiest scenes ever.

I hope y’all have a great weekend. I’m heading to see El Jefe tonight. I need some R & R in a major way.

8 days til Christmas…how you doing on your nice? I’m pretty much failing, but I’m okay with that. Some girls were just meant to be naughty.

Monday!

Today is El Jefe’s birthday so I took the day off. Yay me! Yay for El Jefe!

My visit with the Augusta School was pretty awesome. Had a good talk, signed some books, sold a few books and had a fantastic lunch at the Mexican Gas Station. I love small towns. Really, where else can you get great food at a gas station?
Have a great Monday. See you tomorrow!
