oh alice!

That damn Alice never did come bail me out. I still blame Sam. Last I heard, he had whisked her off to Jamaica and they were have a good time at Hedonism. Well, despite the fact she abandoned me for Naked Twister, my kitchen is clean and I did manage to vacuum the front room and do some laundry. That’s about it.

We had a busy weekend. Ian had detention Saturday. (which was totally my fault. I kept a signed slip of paper an extra day. He got written up for it. Excessive much?) Anyway, after detention, Rader had basketball practice for 2 hours and Ian had a soccer game in a town 30 minutes away. Then we had a friend in town who stopped by for a visit.

Sunday we did it all again. Ian went to watch his girlfriend play soccer and we took Rader to his soccer game in Conway (where Ian’s game was Saturday). It was BLUSTERY! We had 76 degree (but windy) weather Saturday, and yesterday it was barely 50 degrees and so windy I thought we were gonna blow away! WTF? I want my spring weather back, dammit!

Last night, Fishdog and I watched No Reservations. Okay, I don’t know about you guys, but I’m sick to death of these movies being advertised as something they are not. It’s not a romantic comedy. Not even close. It had its moments, but it was definitely not a “funny movie.” It was more boring than anything. And serious. I wasn’t happy.

We have August Rush and Mr. Woodcock left to watch. Hopefully they will be better.

Did y’all do anything fun this weekend? Is your house cleaner than mine? I hope so.

how was your weekend?

Mine was all good. Saturday, Fishdog and I took the boys to the local microbrewery, Vino’s for pizza (and of course, beer us “adults.”) Then we headed over to the school to watch the 7th and 8th grade girls play basketball. That was a lot of fun.

What was even more fun was watching my son crush hard on this girl. He really likes her. They’re “dating” now. Not that you can really date in 8th grade, but what else can you call it? Anyway, when he looks at her or talks about her, his ears turn red.

Cutest. Thing. Ever.

Saturday night, Fishdog and I took Rader to see the Spiderwick Chronicles. I haven’t read the books, but the movie was very cute. I’m betting the books are loads better. I hated the cheesy way they filmed the ending of the movie. I’m sure that in the books it was less melodramatic and super cheesy. It almost ruined a perfectly lovely film for me. Rader enjoyed it.

We would’ve gone to see Jumper, but Ian and his girlfriend went and I didn’t want them to feel like I was watching over them. (though I totally wanted to spy)

Today is a holiday, so the kids are out of school. I’m going to get them out of the house at some point. But until then, I’ve got to get back to work on my new proposal.

Check you later, bitches.

yawn…

I woke up at 5:55 this morning. Would somebody please tell my body it’s the weekend and I don’t have to take the kids to school? Ruby and I slept downstairs last night because my room looks like it was the victim of a tornado. I’ve cleaned out all my drawers and am purging through the copious amounts of t-shirts we have. I mean really, who needs a chest and a dresser full of t-shirts?

Ruby is doing better, thanks for asking. Best $10 I ever spent. She’s had 3 phantom yelping episodes since Thursday, but that’s better than the every five minute episodes.

At 6:12 this morning, both boys got out of bed. Would somebody please tell them it’s the weekend and to go the fark back to bed?

Mark was supposed to come home yesterday from Oxford, but he got caught up in work, so he’s heading home this morning. He says he’s gonna leave before 8. Anyone wanna take bets on what time he actually leaves?

Well, I guess since I’m up, I may as well make the most of it and finish my room. I hate cleaning, but the house is a pit so I should get to it.

Have a happy Saturday!

the sound of silence

Well, except for my neighbor’s dogs…

The kids are at school.

I’ve already been to the gym.

Fishdog is at school for Lunchroom duty. (LOL)

And now, I’m going to write.

I love starting a new story–it really is my favorite part of writing because anything goes. No Rules; just Write. It’s fun to discover new characters, find their voice and discover the voice of the book.

So, I’m going to write on Back to Blue until I get word from my editor on Bite Me! And I’ll enjoy meeting these new people…and I’ll probably really like them until about page 100 when the writing gets tough. Funny how that always seems to happen.

a touching holiday moment

Before I get to my story, let me first say that I am constantly surprised at the irony of Christmas. We spend days, weeks, months (okay, days) preparing for a holiday that is over in a matter of moments. No. Not moments. Milliseconds. Nanoseconds. Real Damn Quick.

This Christmas morning was no different. The boys were very happy with this morning’s haul of gadgets, games, books and clothes. Oh. And candy. Lots of candy.

My favorite gift of theirs was Guitar Hero, Legends of Rock. Oh yeah. I am the goddess of suck, but it sure is fun. (pictures may or may not follow, we’ll see)

Now onto the important part of this blog. My touching holiday story.

As you all may have read the other day, my momma was burglarized just one week before Christmas. It sucked…mainly because the assholes took only jewelry and most of what they took was irreplaceable in the sentiment department. Such as the pearl necklace that my daddy gave my momma the day my brother was born. Yeah, can’t really replace that.

But we tried.

The next day, I called a couple of jewelers and I managed to get a hold of Pat Baker of Baker’s Fine Jewelry in Bryant, AR. I told her what happened to Mom and said that I’d like to purchase a pearl necklace if they had the right size/length in the store. They did. It was a little more than I wanted to spend, but it was for my momma, and honestly, I didn’t care. I’ll find the money somewhere.

I rushed to the store, purchased the beautiful strand, they wrapped it and I immediately took it to Momma’s and placed it under her tree. It was there for a whole week…thank God she didn’t see it. LOL

So today, after the kids had shredded all their presents and Mom was busy cleaning up, I made her sit down and open her special present.

I could cry right now, thinking about her reaction.

See the thing about my momma is, she doesn’t show emotion (other than anger, she shows that one really, really well.) Funny how opposite we are in that manner. I cry when I’m mad, I cry when I’m happy…I’m an indiscriminate crier.

I can now say I’ve seen my momma tear up twice in her life. Once when her momma died–and today.

It was the most special moment ever.

Thank you to the assholes who burglarized my mom’s house…because if you hadn’t taken that necklace, my family wouldn’t have been able to make this the most special Christmas ever for my momma.

She really liked the necklace.

hullloooooo!

Do you hear the echo on my blog? When I woke up this morning, I thought Hmmm, I should blog and when a tumbleweed rolled by, I realized it really was starting to look like a ghost town around here.

I’m trying (and obviously failing) to get into a blog routine again. I haven’t felt the mojo lately. I’m sure it’s because I’ve been blowing and going since before Thanksgiving. Moving is stressful enough, but to move during the holidays and while working on your first set of revisions? As my favorite Angry Beaver would say, That’s just NUTS!

Fishdog is in Oxford this week, so dudes, call him tonight if y’all wanna go out for a bevvy. He’d appreciate it. Especially since he came home to discover the heat had gone out. Oh yeah, nothing like trying to get cozy in a 53 degree empty house (well, there is a bed). Brrrr. Just add ‘fix heater’ to our long list of things to do. (Thanks, Dino for putting him up for the night!)

Christmas shopping is done except for the stocking stuffers. I have to mail out 4 gifts today…one of them is my Romance Diva Secret Santa gift. I hope the person I picked loves it! I’m also mailing my CPs their gifts and my niece in North Carolina hers.

We still don’t have a tree. Fishdog has been kinda Grinchy lately. Can you believe he actually suggested we CANCEL CHRISTMAS? hello!!! Are you kidding me? I’ve been living with my mother for 4 months. I deserve Christmas. And so do the boys. So, we’re getting a tree today. I don’t care if it’s a Charlie Brown tree…it’s still a tree. Fishdog says he’s bringing me my decorations from Oxford. I won’t over do the decorating–Christmas is only a week away. But I do want to hang the stockings and a wreath.

Okay, I’m hitting my revisions now. They’re due Friday and maybe a Christmas miracle will happen and I’ll get them finished! 🙂 It’ll be down to the wire, that’s for sure. What’s been going on with y’all? You done shopping? You started shopping? Wrapping? Did you overspend this year or is that just status quo?

i’ll be back…

I’m in the trenches, finishing Bite Me! and trying to do this whole buying a house thing. Plus I still have to play the role of Momma while living at home with my momma. (that ends Monday!) And then there’s the fallout of having to clean up the mess the asshole thieves tried to make of our bank account. Gee, any wonder why I call this blog Mel-O-Drama?

Anything going on with y’all?

FWIW, I would rather be here right now:
Where would you rather be?

run ian run!

My panic attack is well contained now. I wrote like the wind today, adding 13 new pages so far and will continue tonight after Rader’s soccer game.

Yesterday, Ian ran in his 3rd cross-country meet. They award the top twenty runners with ribbons and on his 1st meet, Ian came in 23rd. Close, but no cigar.

His 2nd meet, he kicked major ass, and came in 16th. Score a ribbon!

Yesterday, the track was a little longer and a little tougher. But not tough enough to keep that boy of mine out of the top 2o! He was 2oth and he walked away with another ribbon.

I’m very proud of my #1 boy. He’s never been a runner before. He’s now been running 3 days a week for about 6 weeks. He’s getting better and better. I hope he sticks it out.

Here’s a camera phone pic of my baby running toward the finish line.

meet gizzard

Yes, I said Gizzard. I didn’t name him, I just serve him.

Giz is a chihuahua/dachshund mix. Or you can call him a Chi-weenie or a Weeniehuahua (weenie-wahwah). He belongs to my BIL, but while Bonehead is on the USS Comfort on a humanitarian tour of duty, Gizzard is staying with the inlaws. And right now, so am I.

Gizzard really likes me and he spends lots of time in my lap or the crook of my arm. He really likes the computer, and sleeping under the covers.

We tell Gizzard he’s beautiful, and if you think otherwise, keep it to yourself.
