happy sunday morning

I actually blogged over at Fat Chicks Running this morning. I don’t often do Sunday blogs, so you better not miss out!

How’s your weekend been so far? Fishdog and I have a party to go to this afternoon and another one on Tuesday. Aren’t we just the social butterflies? I was so tired yesterday after the week of cleaning and Friday night’s throw down, so I just chilled. Went to lunch with some writing friends, ran carpool, went to the gym, came home and had wine for dinner. Oh yeah, it was great. Also watched a few of movies that always make me feel good. 16 Candles, Elf, and The Wedding Planner. I was asleep by 10:00 and am thrilled to announce, I pretty much slept through the night.

Yay me!

Have a happy Sunday, y’all! See ya mañana!

Holiday Movies…you gotta fave?

I’m not your typical holiday movie girl. I have never seen Miracle on 34th Street or It’s a Wonderful Life. And guess what? I don’t want to. When I hear people quote “Every time a bell rings an angel gets his wings” a little part of my black heart breaks off and poisons the rest of my system.

So I decided to make a list of my favorite holiday movies. I’d love to hear your favorites. My only request is that you do not spend time trying to convert me to Miracle and Wonderful Life hell. It ain’t gonna happen. The only way I can ever imagine sitting through those movies is if I was kidnapped, tied to a chair with my eyelids forced open, and those movies playing on repeat in front of my face. Even then I might figure out a way to poke my eyes out.

Mel’s Must See Holiday Movie List:

  1. Lethal Weapon
  2. Die Hard 1
  3. Die Hard 2
  4. Sleepless in Seattle
  5. A Christmas Story (though I will admit, I got tired of this one for a while…but I’m back on the bandwagon)
  6. The Year Without a Santa Claus (see video for evidence as to why this is the BEST Christmas movie ever)
  7. Love Actually*
  8. Bridget Jones Diary*

*edited to add. Can’t believe I forgot these two!

There are a few others, but this is the must see list. So, what’s on yours?

sometimes (oftentimes) I wonder…

How Fishdog and I coexist.

right now, he’s watching a movie that is driving me nucking futs. THE LADIES MAN with Jerry Lewis. Yes, Jerry Lewis. If it were THE LADIES MAN, the Tim Meadows movie, I’d probably watch with him…but no, it’s Jerry Freaking Lewis.

The man drives me batty. Fucktackularly batty.

Unfortunately, we’re like this a lot when it comes to movies. He likes Zatôichi and other kung fu and old black and movies that break out into song in the middle of dialogue. He likes stupid old war movies that I’d rather eat a lightbulb than watch.

It’s kind of endearing. Sometimes. But right now, with Jerry Lewis’s whiny voice in the background, it is NOT endearing. At. All.

SEX and the CITY

It was like going home to old friends. I really think that overall, they did right by the series with this movie. I will see it again in the theater…possibly two more times.

Honestly, I loved it. I have one little nit that I won’t discuss here because frankly, I don’t wanna spoil it. Just know that even though it’s a 2 and a half hour movie, it’s worth every second. They didn’t rush the plot (for the most part) and they really gave each character her story. It was emotional and funny and heartbreaking and worth every second in the theater.
Go see it. You won’t be sorry. And if you can, go see it with friends.

Oh, and one more thing…I always wondered which character I was…I always identified a lot with Samantha–and I considered myself a toned down version of her…but last night, I realized, I’m Miranda. Sigh. I think I always knew that about myself, but didn’t wanna see it. LOL

Which character do you think you are most closely in-line with?

fast times at awesome high and a rant

I watched Fast Times at Ridgemont High last night for the first time in forever. God that movie is teh awesome.

Ian sat and watched it with me for a while. He laughed a lot, which I think surprised him. He made a comment about “Old people being weird.” which was totally directed at me since I was quoting the movie and laughing until I snorted. I was really curious to see how Ian would react to the boob scenes, but he gave up on the movie before Jennifer Jason Leigh and Phoebe Cates disrobed. Not that he has seen boob scenes before. But he hasn’t really seen them in the context of characters around his age.

Anyway, it was fun to watch and laugh with my kid. He’ll probably watch it without me now. God knows he doesn’t want me to think he likes something I suggested he watch. *rolling eyes* After I told him he missed the boob action, he’ll totally watch.
And now onto the rant:
TOP CHEF
WTF?
Can anyone explain to me how it is that greasy-headed Lisa is still on this show? How on earth did Dale get sent home before that Hot Mess of a chef? I mean, has she ever NOT been in the bottom three? Why is she still there? Her attitude sux. She is a whiner and a crybaby and the most negative person on earth. Plus, she can’t freaking cook!

I have decided that Lisa and her Hot Mess Hair and the Karate Kid from The Bachelorette need to hook up so they can produce a litter of Hot Mess Hair babies…

oh alice!

That damn Alice never did come bail me out. I still blame Sam. Last I heard, he had whisked her off to Jamaica and they were have a good time at Hedonism. Well, despite the fact she abandoned me for Naked Twister, my kitchen is clean and I did manage to vacuum the front room and do some laundry. That’s about it.

We had a busy weekend. Ian had detention Saturday. (which was totally my fault. I kept a signed slip of paper an extra day. He got written up for it. Excessive much?) Anyway, after detention, Rader had basketball practice for 2 hours and Ian had a soccer game in a town 30 minutes away. Then we had a friend in town who stopped by for a visit.

Sunday we did it all again. Ian went to watch his girlfriend play soccer and we took Rader to his soccer game in Conway (where Ian’s game was Saturday). It was BLUSTERY! We had 76 degree (but windy) weather Saturday, and yesterday it was barely 50 degrees and so windy I thought we were gonna blow away! WTF? I want my spring weather back, dammit!

Last night, Fishdog and I watched No Reservations. Okay, I don’t know about you guys, but I’m sick to death of these movies being advertised as something they are not. It’s not a romantic comedy. Not even close. It had its moments, but it was definitely not a “funny movie.” It was more boring than anything. And serious. I wasn’t happy.

We have August Rush and Mr. Woodcock left to watch. Hopefully they will be better.

Did y’all do anything fun this weekend? Is your house cleaner than mine? I hope so.
