THE DAY OF MEL 2012

Guess who contacted me to wish me a very special birthday? I’m placing it under the cut because it my offend some of your delicate sensibilities. (If it does, you’re probably new to me…Hi! I’m Melf and I am an adult, and this is my blog, and sometimes I say adult things. Also it’s my birthday, so there. Also, you should go buy my books so I can quit my day job.)

I KNEW MATT DAMON WASN’T OVER ME! I’m sorry EL Jefe. But it’s Matt Damon. I know you understand… 😉

It is the Day of Mel and my co-workers brought me colorful sprinkled donuts! El Jefe took my car to be fixed (because he is made of awesome). My girlfriend is apparently buying my lunch today (and by “lunch” I mean “wine”) and my boss just gave me the afternoon off to celebrate (okay, she didn’t want me coming back to work hammered. whatever.) Life is pretty awesome.

Month of Mel 2012: Day 13

Hah. Get your minds out of the gutter folks…

So my momma called me yesterday asking me what I wanted for my birthday. I told her nothing, which is absolutely true. My mom has done so much for me over these past few years especially, and that is gift enough. Then at work, I had several folks ask me what gift I asked for…and I realized, I don’t really think it’s a gift if you have to ask for it.

When I posted about the history of the Month of Mel, I talked about I almost always planned my own birthdays…all the way down to the gift–if there even was a gift at all. (in my adult life…my mother rocked the birthday world growing up.) I’ve never once been surprised for my birthday. (I think this is one reason I love giving gifts so much.It gives me great joy to see the appreciation of a truly well-thought out, meaningful gift.)  So if I ever really did want something for my birthday–it would be to be surprised. To have someone pick out something just for me, to care enough to make me feel special for one day. I want my gifts to be personal and given with love. I want to feel like I don’t have  to celebrate an entire month to make up for feeling overlooked and taken for granted for so many years. Also, jewelry. Every girl wants jewelry.

And that’s something I would never ask for; but it is something I can always hope for. /semi-serious Month of Mel post.

In other news, IT’S TUESDAY BITCHES. Who needs some sparkle because I have plenty to spare! Also, I found my 3rd & 4th four-leaf clovers of 2012 yesterday. I’m feeling lucky…

OH…and The Bachelor: The Final Rose recap is live. After the Final Rose will be up later… is up now!

Month of Mel 2012: Days 10, 11, 12

Studio 54 was a rockin’ good time.

Here is more photographic evidence.

I’m exhausted still, but wow, did I have a great time. I have the best friends and the best boyfriend ever. I love that everyone embraced the theme with gusto and went all in. And my friend Bell Bottoms? I don’t know how I got lucky enough to have her in my life, but I am so grateful for her.

My birthday is in 2 days… and my little Tree Frog’s birthday is Friday. My itty bitty baby boy is going to be 18 this week. Yes, I had him when I was 10. Thank you for noticing.

In other news, my Tree Frog is also now an official college student. He received his acceptance over the weekend. This is a huge week for us. I have, as yet, come to terms with the fact that my baby is a grown man. I may not survive it…

Month of Mel 2012: Day 9

Excitement is building for tomorrow night’s Disco Extravaganza! We will be decorating tonight. There will be a sparkly pedicure sometime tomorrow…and possibly the purchase of a white suit for El Jefe. Oh yeah, and then it’s gonna be ON.

Hopefully there will be some quality pictures that I can share with you here next week. If there aren’t, then you know the party was even better than expected.

Y’all have a great weekend! I know I’m going to….

Peace.

Month of Mel 2012: Day 8

I’m in a 2 hour meeting so I need you to help me build our STUDIO 54 playlist:

BeeGees
Donna Summer
Gloria Gaynor
The Weather Girls
Barry Manilow

There’s plenty more…so go ahead, give me artist or song…here or on FB…. AND GO!

Month of Mel 2012: Days 6 & 7

Sorry about missing yesterday. I got up late, was busy at work, and by the time I got home, I just didn’t feel like blogging.

However, my Bachelor The Women Tell All recap did get posted yesterday…You should click the link and go read it. And you should retweet it and forward it on and like it on facebook and do whatever you can to help a sista out. Actually, I think you should go read all my Bachelor recaps because I’m funny. Also we’re having a contest and the more people who go to Hey Don’t Judge Me from my posted links, the better chance I have at winning $100. I’m not gonna lie. I want to win.

BTW, we’ve added two knew shows…my Canuck friends should be very happy we’ve added BOMB GIRLS! and we’ve also added White Chapel.

The girls got a little stabby with each other on Women Tell All. I really wanted to see some real blood or at least some Jell-o Wrestlin’…sadly, it was just their words that cut like a knife.

ION, mine and Bell Bottoms’ Studio 54 themed Housewarming/Birthday Bash is getting closer. Last night I purchased some Gold and Silver door fringe as well as a bubble machine. I may or may not have also added these to my outfit of awesome:

Now, if I can just make sure my hair does what it’s supposed to do. Note to self: Buy lots of Rave #4.

El Jefe is going to have an amazing mustache. AMAZING. Now we just need to find him some gold chains…

Month of Mel 2012: Day 5

Let us observe a moment of silence for Bobcat Greyskull. He lost his tail last July, and today he’s losing his man-parts.

In more glamorous news, Bell Bottoms, Nipsy and I went Disco Diva shopping this weekend. Check out THIS awesome find. I will not be wearing the pajama pants at the party…

If the mail runs correctly, I will be wearing THESE pants instead:

And the shoes that Nipsy found for me at Savers? AMAZING.

I’m also thinking that maybe this is the perfect color for my toes…

It’s gonna be a groovy time…and I can’t wait to see El Jefe decked out. You know he’s gonna be hot. Especially if he’s sporting a super 70s ‘stache…

Month of Mel 2012: Day 2

It’s Day 2 of the Month of Mel and it’s already been a banner month! (get it? Banner? and I posted a Month of Mel banner? See what I did there?)

It’s going to be 80 degrees today. It’s like Mother Nature is bowing down to my awesomeness and granting me my every wish. Well, my current weather wish… I’m wearing sandals today! I’m so happy I got a pedicure a couple of weeks ago…

Robyn (formerly known as Birdrunner, currently known as Bell Bottoms) and I have been planning a super fun combo housewarming/birthday party. There will be disco balls, gold lame’ and white suits galore! I can’t wait! We are gonna party like it’s 1979 next weekend.

I’m working on a fabulous playlist. Any suggestions? Don’t worry, I’ve got the BeeGees and Donna Summer…and definitely we’ll have some Copa Cabana! Can’t have a disco without a little Barry Manilow.

Her name is Lola, she is a showgirl…with yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there…

OH guess what? I got my first Month of Mel prezzie last night. I heart my friends who love to play along…

Happy Friday! Sparkle on my friends!

Month of Mel 2012: Day 1

For those of you who aren’t familiar with how and why the Month of Mel came to be:

The Month of Mel: A History Lesson

March 1. A day of sunshine and sparkle in the Rock and I’m totally stoked. It’s a beautiful day to start out the Month of Mel…and I’m going to enjoy all it has to offer.

And to get you revved up and ready, here’s a song that always makes me smile. If you’re not shaking your groove thing during this song, you’re dead inside.

and for a fun remix, enjoy this b.o.b. version.

Welcome one and all. I hope you’re ready for some extra bright sparkle this month! I’m gonna crank it up to eleven y’all!
