NOT my finest moment

Football. I can’t wait. Especially since my 12 year old will be playing this year. Yeah, I’m pretty stoked about it.

Last night, said 12 year old came home with his new mouth guard that I had to boil. So I did. And promptly forgot about it….

Um, yeah. Mother of the year. I got that blue ribbon in the bag.

In other news, I’m blogging again over at FCR because, well, the fluffy is taking over again. No more fat ass. I mean, I’ll always have a Big Butt (So What) but I don’t have to be so soft and fluffy…

what to wear

I have to go to work today. I don’t mind it, I like the people I work with a lot and I like job. I LOVE the hours. Seriously, I work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 8-3. Oh yeah. My work week was made directly from the recipe of awesome.

Eventually the job will go full time and I’ll have a decision to make. I know I’ll take the job if it’s offered, it’s a great company that pays well, and has amazing benefits. Plus, I truly like my department, which is fabulous. I don’t dread going to work at all.

But today, I dread wearing real clothes. I miss being able to work in my PJ pants or my exercise clothes. No, I don’t wanna do it everyday (that got a little old) but damn, it’s cold and rainy today and I just want to put on my black yoga pants, my hot pink tank top, a sweatshirt and running shoes and report for duty.

I’m thinking that would be pushing even the most lenient of ‘business casual’ dress codes.

But really, it would even be more convenient for me since I’m going to the gym this afternoon. I could just hop in the car and drive straight there.

It’s a scrubby kind of day, but I’ll be looking cute. (duh.) Of course, that means I have to figure out what I want to wear now…

What’s on your agenda for today? Are you going get to be scrubby?

Oh, and I’m back at FCR today, talking about breaking through my plateau, my next reward CD, and my upcoming race.

I’m still alive–but

But the house isn’t finished. I swear, next time I go on strike, I’m going to prepare and freeze 2 months of meals in advance and hire a weekly housekeeper. (of course, I hope by ‘next time’ I’ll already have a housekeeper coming every other week…) I live in a frat house with animals.

So today’s goal is the living room, finish the laundry, mop all the floors, and organize my bedroom closet.

Part of the organizing is going to entail getting rid of shoes I don’t wear, as well as all the clothes I’ve ‘undergrown’ (because I’m not going back).

I’m also going to the gym today…I registered for my March 15 race this morning, so I have to make sure I’m going to be able to actually run that bitch. YAY ME!

I posted some pics on Ficitonistas from Saturday’s day with the boys at the races. Pop over and see them! I’m also going to be over at FCR today sometime. It’s Monday, so I’m making the rounds!

this is just a random posting

UPDATE: I’m back over at FCR today. Come by for a visit.

The song I woke up with in my head this morning was Wham! Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go (You’re welcome)

I’m glad this week is over. Work was good and my brain is almost back to normal after Monday’s writing-palooza. FWIW, it apparently takes 4 days for a brain to solidify again after overuse liquefies it. I’m not sure how much of my brain leaked out of my ears, but I feel pretty normal, so whatever I lost must’ve been some of that ‘unused’ bit.

I caught up on LOST. It’s been a great season so far. And I’m still in love with Sawyer. He really does get the best lines.

I’m also in love with heat over Gordon Ramasy of Hell’s Kitchen. First of all, he’s a ginger (I do believe I’ve established I have a weakness for such things?) Secondly, there is something about that man’s filthy mouth and angry outbursts that just gives me goosebumps. The man turns me on, what can I say.

My Thursday Girls took me to dinner last night to celebrate my brain being solid again. I tried Mango Vodka and Tonic. Holy Potato Juice was it good. Seriously, I thought I was in love with Mandarin Vodka? No. That wasn’t love, that was intense admiration. And Mandarin Vodka and I will always have a very special relationship. But Mango Vodka won my heart last night. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Have y’all got big plans this weekend? It’s going to be gorgeous here. I’m going to be doing some writing, but I also plan to get out of the house some. I went back to the gym Wednesday, which felt great, even though my workout was shit…I’m going today, and I’m going to get the hell out tomorrow and run.

Have a great weekend!

A couple of new items have been added to my 40 at 40 list.

  7. See a professional (insert sport here) game
  8. See Staind in concert
  9. See Springsteen in concert (now that I’ve been properly recruited into his cult fanclub. However, I really shouldn’t add this to my list because I’m afraid that my recruiter’s ego can’t handle another stroke) ETA: am worried this won’t happen this year unless he adds some fall dates…will add it to next year’s list if need be.
  10. Lose 2 sizes
  11. Buy myself a nice piece of jewelry
  12. Get a passport

where’s my coffee?

I can’t believe it’s Monday. I can’t believe it’s February. I can’t believe I haven’t left my desk in over a week.

I miss living. I miss working out. I miss real food.

I did finally shower yesterday. My family was thankful.

The Book That Will Not End is not done yet. It’s close. Soooo close, but not done. But it will be. Just you wait and see. And when it is, there will be a party.

BTW, look what the Universe sent me today:

How will you answer those, Melissa, who will one day look at your utterly amazing life, complete with good book deal and cool friends, and say, “Yeah, but for you it was easy”?

Huh, huh, huh?
The Universe

That’s kinda funny, huh? Good old Universe.

I’m back at Fictionistas today, after taking the last two Mondays off. Pop over and see me. But before you go, can you please fix me another cup of coffee? Thanks.

Also, my cross-continental buddy walked her first half-marathon and has documented it in a couple of posts over at FCR. Jump over there and congratulate her! I’ll be back over there sometime this week. When I finally peel my ass out of my chair and hit the pavement again.

  1. Day Before the Race
  2. Race Day

date weekend

I have a date with my computer this weekend. We’re going to be spending a lot of QT together, plotting, storytelling, and maybe even getting on each others’ nerves a bit. But it must be done. So I’m firing up my iTunes, sticking in my headphones and hitting the keyboard. If my computer cooperates, I might even let him go to second base. (especially if iTunes sets the mood by playing some Barry White…)

In the mean time, HobbitGrrl has offered some fantastic marathon advice for n00bs over at FCR. Really great advice. Now I feel at least somewhat prepared for that very scary event, which is only 1 month, 2 weeks, and 5 days away. Not that I’m counting.

If you haven’t been keeping up with my fitness status over at FCR, I’m down 13 lbs, have lost 1 full size, and am now able to run 2 miles on pavement without stopping. Still a long way from 6 but hey, I’ll get there. It’s sure a lot better than the struggling I was doing over my first 60 second run a few months ago. 🙂 Also, I’m finally to the point that I actually want to go workout. This is a new thing for me…I missed a week to let my foot heal and I was really cranky. (I know, know! Who am I and what have I done with the real Mel?) Don’t worry, the real Mel is fine. She’s off on some island with a gaggle of red-heads servicing her every need…

a mish mash

First of all, I’m back to blogging over at FCR. I took a week off due to a pain in my foot. The pain is still there, but it’s better. Yesterday I bought new shoes and it was quite the experience. If you get a chance, pop over and read about it. Sometimes I’m kinda funny. It’s true.

Speaking of funny, is it weird that almost everyday somebody tells me that I’m funny? I mean, I know I have a good sense of humor and I know I crack myself up on a daily basis, but really am I that funny? Or does funny mean something else to these folks? Are they calling me ironic? (Okay, that would be kinda funny) Maybe they’re leaving out a word. “Mel you _______ funny.” (It’s Mad Libs Time! insert verb) smell, run, walk, look, need, want, crave, talk, sound, mother, write… The possibilities are endless.

Rapid topic change:
Have you ever had one of those days that you know you must look really good because of the way people look at you? Yesterday was one of those days for me. Seriously, was almost disconcerting. Every woman complimented something about my outfit and most of the men did that eye thing. Ladies, you know that eye thing I’m talking about don’t you? The one that men think we don’t see when they do it? It’s an eye flit of sorts and it’s so funny cuz they think they’re being so subtle. Especially when they like what they see and their ears turn red. Or they cock a brow. Or they smile with a different kinda smile…

Dear [most] Men,
You’re about as subtle as a dog with a pork rib. Stop that.
Yours Truly,
Mel

Rapid topic change:
Last night, I was all primed to watch the season premiere of LOST. I need my Sawyer, Desmond, and Sayid fix in a major way. But do you know what my local dumbass, good-for-nothing, two-timing ABC station did? They preempted LOST for the Auburn/Kentucky basketball game! Listen, I love me some SEC sports, but you don’t preempt the season premiere of LOST for a freaking NON-LOCAL sporting event. Fishdog has encouraged me to write a letter. I’ve had some letter writing success in the past, but I don’t really see the purpose this time. It’s not like they can undo yesterday’s damage. Sigh.

Okay, enough for now. Y’all have a great day, and I’ll see you this afternoon. No LOST SPOILERS! Talk amongst yourselves and when I get home from work, I’ll be sure to play.

back to the grindstone

We had a lovely, low key day with the family yesterday. But now Christmas is over and it’s time to get back to business.

I have 1 month to finish LOVE SUCKS! so that’s my main focus. I’ll be going to the gym today, so don’t forget to check out my Fat Chicks blog this afternoon. I have 3.5 months to shed a billion-katrillion pounds and get fit, so I can’t miss any workouts between now and then!

How was your holiday? I hope you all had a day filled with whatever you enjoy most and I really hope Santa was very good to you, even if you were naughty. 🙂

happy monday!

It is a happy Monday for me. I slept again last night! Whoohoo!

I’m blogging about rewards over at Fat Chicks Running and I’m blogging about myself over at Fictionistas.

That’s it for today. At least for right now. I’ve got a busy day, so I’ll probably be twittering via my phone here and there, but no more blogging. Of course, you know as well as I do that can change…

Love y’all. Mean it.

just another manic monday

Mondays are always so busy!

I’m over at Fictionistas, talking about the sense of smell.

I’ll be blogging at Fat Chicks Running later today. I went to the gym TWICE this weekend. I know, you’re shocked. So am I. I’m also planning another video blog this week…if I can somehow manage to hide my Cartman chin. I’d also like to change my voice. Am I the only one who hates to hear my recorded self?

This weekend was a bit of a whirlwind. I swear it was just Friday. And now, Christmas is a week away and I’m trying to figure out when it became December. I swear I was just in my bathing suit, allowing the sun to worship me. Honestly, am I the only one who thinks time is flying by at warp speed? (look! Cartman chin is gone! Maybe I should Vlog looking up…)

Time flies when you’re growing old?

Speaking of old: A shout out to my niece Zzer (zeezer–nickname for Elizabeth) who turns 13 today.

Oh and just to give y’all proper notice, Fishdog turns 40 tomorrow. Yes. He’s gonna beat me to the big 4-0. Nothing makes me happier.

It’s a busy week here at Chez Francis. I’ll be writing my fingers to the bone. I have a lofty page goal for the week, I’ll keep you posted on that. Also, we’re supposed to get iced in tonight. Love Arkansas weather. It was 65 degrees yesterday. It’s 33 now.

While I’m at the gym, why don’t y’all tell me about your weekend?
