football, friends, fun and NATURE!

Despite the fact that the Razorbacks lost, it was a good weekend.

First of all, the Hogs have a passing game. This is welcome news to all of Arkansas, as we haven’t seen our little piggies throw and catch the ball in years. Actually probably a decade. We could’ve won the game (we should’ve won the game) but we had a player get ejected and the coach got an additional penalty and then the team kinda fell apart after that.

Plus, even though we have an offense; the defense (for either team) was pretty much non-existent. Maybe they should work on that some this week. Just a suggestion.

I saw my friend Debra Parmley who did a book signing at Words Worth books not far from my house. Debra lives a couple of hours away from me, so it was nice to be able to pop over for a quick visit:And then I had Robyn’s bday party to go to. There was dancing, and dancing, and dancing! OH MY! Sunday I walked with @jennchristman and it turned into a nature hike. We saw several deer, a couple of heron, a turtle convention (seriously, I’ve never seen that many turtles on one log before in my life), an alien egg (wish I had gotten a pic of it. When the pod people take over, don’t say I didn’t warn ya) and a tee-tiny little green snake. It was a naturiffic!

Did you have a good weekend? Do anything fun?

getting ready

I’m not sure what’s up here lately, but fall has definitely been in the air here in The Rock. And that’s just not right for August in Arkansas. Usually, it’s 110 degrees with 120% humidity right now.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m certainly not complaining. I’ve really enjoyed sleeping with the windows open and the cool mornings on my back porch with my cup of coffee. It’s been very nice.

And it’s also making me VERY ready for football.

Now I know y’all all know I love me some soccer. Both my boys play, and seriously, the grown up soccer players are just fun to look at. This is a soccer household no question.

However, I’m a football girl at heart. Especially college, though I love to watch high school as well and will watch professional, but I think of most of them as spoiled rotten overpaid babies who have stopped playing for the love of the game. Plus why hasn’t Matt Jones been picked up yet? I’m seriously bent out of shape about that. He was one of my favorite Razorbacks…

I’ve decided I’m going to some games this year, come hell or high water. I talked about it last year, but never really made it to any. Sure I love to watch them on TV, but there’s nothing better than being in the stadium…Have you heard a Hog Call live? It will bring you chills.
Click here to listen…then pretend you’re in a filled stadium and hearing it live.

and just for fun, here’s my favorite Arkansas fight song…performed by Shirley Q. Liquor.
“The Razorbackses is up in here, YES LAWD!”

Woo Pig Sooie!

why why why?

Matt Jones arrested for cocaine.

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones faces a felony drug charge in his former college town after police say he was inside a car cutting up cocaine with a credit card.

The 25-year-old Jones and two others were arrested early Thursday. A police report said officers approached the car and an officer drew his handgun after Jones did not immediately show his hands.

Police said they searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag filled with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine and a jar with possible marijuana residue.

for those of you who do not know who Matt Jones is:

Jones was a star quarterback at Arkansas and a first-round draft pick by the Jaguars in 2005.

I loved watching him play. He was amazing. And I’m so disgusted right now. What a pisser. What a downer on my nose-pierce-iversary.

checking in then checking out…

Hey y’all. I’m probably gonna be absent for a while. First of all, I’m neck deep in paint. Then there’s the whole Thanksgiving thing, where I’ll take a break from painting to eat. Then on Friday, the Hogs play LSU…the number one team in the nation right now. It might not be pretty, but I can’t miss it!

After the game Friday, we’re headed to Oxford. We’re gonna load up the truck and officially move. That’s right, I’ll sleep in my brand new house this weekend. Excellent.

Oh, and during all this, I also have to finish revising Bite Me! to send to fabulous editor by Friday. Yeah, I’m gonna be just a little bit busy.

I’ll see you next week!

Love y’all. Mean it!

friday night lights

I’m supposed to be writing…but it ain’t happening tonight.

First of all, one of my CPs uploaded her book about demons and I can’t seem to stop reading it. Secondly, I’ve been awake since about 5 am (involuntarily awake) and I’m kinda tired. Thirdly, it’s very cool outside, therefore it’s perfect red wine weather. So I had a glass bottle. Fourthly, (is fourthly a word?) I guess it is. Fourthly, I’ve been in front of the computer (minus a few hours) since 5:30 am therefore I’m not quite all here.

Plus, there’s that whole “wine” issue.

Anyway, while I was notwriting tonight I flipped on the tv. One of my fave all time shows was on…Friday Night Lights. Hot high school hotties (redundant, I know. but hey, I’ve always liked ’em young) playing my 2nd favorite sport. Awesome. Then I realized Men in Trees was back(mmm mountain men)…directly across from Las Vegas (one of my other fave shows. Hey. It’s Josh Duahmel and he drives my fave car ever! a 69 Camaro SS. Sigh.). Such torture, having to choose. So I chose Men in Trees because back in Oxford, Las Vegas is being Tivo’d. 🙂 See, I’m not so stoopid.

Fishdog and the boys went to the Catholic High Homecoming game tonight. According to the phone calls, they had a great time. Sorry I wasn’t there…well, not really. I had wine. But in theory, I’m sorry I wasn’t there.

Peace y’all. Have a good weekend. I’ll post something fun tomorrow.

i’m a loser…but i’m having fun

So, Marley wins…I mean, ‘Bama wins. We sucked. It sucked. I drank and didn’t care after a while. But I still love my Piggies and I’m still a Houston Nutt supporter. Go Hogs. Sorry you brought home the big L tonight.

After the game and many beers, we pulled out the Fishdog’s new Mac Powerbook. I love this machine. I love typing on it and I love the fact that I can take funky pictures with it.

go hogs go!

WOO PIG SOOIE!

Spank ‘Bama!

Today, my friend becomes my “enemy”. I love you, Marley. But today, we must fight.

For those who are interested, last year my Piggies beat ‘Bama in 2 overtimes…It was ugly, but I was wearing my beer goggles so ugly didn’t matter….

have things changed?

In the comments of my last post, Liz said:

I haven’t been to a high school football game since I was in high school. I too miss it, although my memories of the games include sneaking drinks in, chatting, walking off site to smoke, and checking out the 17 year old guys. Have things changed?

In a word? Nope.

But apparently I have.

It’s a bit strange being an adult at a high school function. I haven’t seen so much eye rolling and gum smacking in one place ever! I looked around for a 17 year old guy to make out with, but they were all already occupied in the with their own girlfriends. Darn.

The clicks are still around in full force. The junior high kids go off and nerd it up together. The senior high girls are all wearing too much make up and showing too much skin. Whatever happened to jeans and t-shirts at a football game? When did hoochie “skirts” become the in thing for a football game. Honey, when you sit down, we see your bidniz. K? And when you stumble down the bleachers and fall because you’ve had one too many “Cokes”, well, we can really see your bidniz. Put on a pair of pants. Hell, I’m not picky. Put on some panties! The kids don’t need an anatomy lesson just yet.

The senior high boys are all trying so hard to look nonchalant that they all end up looking constipated.

Pretty much, things haven’t changed at all.

Saturday was busy, busy for us. We got up and went to the park for a family run. Fishdog and Ian ran about 1.5 miles and Rader and I walked and ran a mile. We were getting ready to start our second trip around the track when a yellow jacket decided to attack. It got Rader on the arm, landed on his ear and I knocked it away. We ran toward the van, got about 10 ft. away from the original sting site, and that bitch yellow jacket caught up to Rader, landed on his shoulder blade and stung him again. Bitch had to die! Get my boy twice! Of course, you know how bad those things hurt and Rader did a good job of letting Saline County hear his wailing. After a while, he was okay. I was afraid he was gonna let the drama interfere with his soccer game that afternoon, but he manned up and managed to play a helluva game. The kids lost, but I was proud of the way Rader played.

Now the weekend is over, today we rest, hang out with some friends, and tomorrow we start all over. Soccer, cross-country, confirmation class, CYM Jr., working out…oh, and writing. Yeah. Gotta fit my job into my busy schedule!

days go by

What day is it?

Oh, FRIDAY.

That’s been the strangest thing for me since I stopped working at my office job. I can’t keep up with the days of the week. Even the fact that I’m taking the kids to school everyday doesn’t seem to help. I’m always carting them around anyway, right?

I’m not complaining, mind you. It’s just strange that today is Friday and I’m not feeling that “THANK GOD!” excitement hum through me. And come Monday, I won’t feel that, “it’s really Monday?” sense of dread as my alarm goes off. That is a nice change. I feel much more even and happy.

Yesterday I completed my chapter. I’m thinking that library thing might really work out, so I’m gonna do it a couple of days a week, I think. But I have to take a sweater because they keep the temperature set on Meat Locker in there. Burrrrrrr.

Ian completed his first full week of cross-country yesterday. He’s been whining like an old lady about his thighs and how much he hurts. I just hand him two Advil and tell him to drink plenty of water. Poor baby. He thought because he was skinny that meant he was in shape. Hah!

Rader’s soccer team looks like they might be pretty good. I really like the coach, he’s Irish (so I love listening to him talk) and he loves soccer and he’s good with the kids. Fishdog’s gonna help out when he’s around more. Rader is still struggling with running, too. We’re gonna have to make this running thing into a family thing. Not that I’m any better off the elliptical. But I think I could manage ten mins of running. Maybe.

Fishdog is coming back tonight. Rader’s first game is tomorrow and the Fishdog has a game on Sunday. Ian’s first cross-country meet is the 19th. That should be interesting. I’ve never been to a cross-country meet before. I hope Ian’s competitive side kicks in and he runs through the pain. LOL

I’m taking the boys to the Catholic High football game tonight. They play my high school’s rival, Benton. It should be fun. I miss high school football and tonight should be perfect. Unless it’s raining. I don’t miss it that much.
