Mondaze.

funny pictures of cats with captions

It’s Mondaze during the holidaze week of Christmas.

I watched Love Actually 3 times this weekend. Yes, I’m ridiculous. No, I really don’t care if you think I’m a loser. (and can I just say, both of my boys sat down and watched it with me the 3rd time about half-way through and got completely hooked) This confirms my theory that Love Actually is actually Christmas Crack.

I also watched Seven Pounds. What a downer. I had that movie figured out within the first 10 mins yet I couldn’t stop watching. Probably because I love Will Smith but still, it was such a damn downer. And the ending was just so expected! C’mon!

And then there was Survivor which made me very, very happy. I was all about Team Russell until he got all nasty about Shambo last week. Seriously, that man owed Shambo his place in the game. If it hadn’t been for her, he never would’ve made it as far as he did. And instead of giving her the respect she deserved, he called her names and said she disgusted him, etc. It made me ill. While I agree he played an amazingly strategic and very obvious game, and he was total entertainment…Natalie played just as smart but was much less obvious. And it worked for her.

I was happy.

Plus she’s an Arkansas girl, so Woo Pig Sooie!

And on a final note, I’ll be at the Benton Library tonight from 6-7 doing a talk and signing books. What on earth am I gonna talk about?

proof I did not get D-hall yesterday

Bryant High School wasn’t a small school when I graduated 20+ a few years ago. I mean, my class had 300 people in it, so you can’t call it ‘small.’ BUT compared to the Bryant of today, it’s damn near microscopic.

I met with the students in the North Library, I believe. Yes, they’re so big now, they have a North and South Library (though yesterday was the final day for that building to be a library…it was being turned into a band room) The North Library used to be my Middle School library. I swear the campus is kinda like the Blob and is slowly taking over the world one patch of dirt at a time. You students better be careful or it’ll get you, too!

Walking into the building gave me major flashbacks. Nothing bad, I rather enjoyed high school overall. I mean, we all had our bad experiences, but I can’t say that high school was a terrible place. Maybe I’ll tell you some of my favorite high school stories later…the good and the bad.

Anyway…Everyone was wonderful and so welcoming. I was treated like a celebrity…and let’s face it, that’s how it should be. I mean, c’mon! I’m MEL! I signed books and took pics and had a jolly good time.

And then they wanted me to talk. I’m not really sure why because what do I have to say? But I dug deep and I found subjects (thanks to the many brilliant questions my rapt audience asked me).

My Western Civ teacher, Mr. Cole came to see me. I love that man. he was one of my favorite teachers of all time. I climbed up in my attic today to see if I could find my picture of the two of us together my senior year, but I couldn’t find it. I know I have it around here some where but I’ll have to post it later. Anyway, here I am with Mr. Cole today. Kinda wish I’d have crossed my legs for ya. Sorry ’bout that.

Not the greatest pic but I know there are better ones out there and when they get sent to me, I’ll post.

This was really an amazing experience for me and I can’t wait to do it again. Thanks so much to Marcia Schiffl and Jill Martin for putting this together and inviting me. And a big fat double thank you to the students who showed up and pretended to be interested in what I had to say. THAT was the most awesome thing EVER.

BTW, like the true person with oppositional defiant disorder, I chewed gum the entire time because I just had to stick it to the man for making that stupid rule back in the day…because I know at least 1 of my 5 weeks of D-hall my senior year was due to gum chewing. LOL

back to my Alma Mater

I’ve been invited to speak to the Bryant Hornet Reading Club this morning. I’m totally stoked! I hear some of my former teachers may make an appearance. Not sure if I’m ready to face that music yet.

I mean, I was a good girl despite the fact that I spent several weeks of my senior year in D-hall. I wasn’t being bad, I was just misunderstood.

I swear.

Hmmm, maybe I should’ve prepared something to talk about in advance.

Ooops.

Oh well, good thing I’m a talker. No telling what I might decide to discuss today!

BITE ME! on 20/20

I almost watched 20/20 last night because they were featuring ‘Real-Life Vampires’ and then thought…”Seriously, what are the odds they’ll feature my book cover for this story?” Apparently I should also buy a lottery ticket because the odds were 100%!! You’ll have to sit through a commercial once the video loads but at -6:34 on the timer, you’ll see my beautiful cover with my name front and center!

and then she rested

What a busy weekend! Holy Spamoli!

Okay, first was Friday night’s party…which was a huge success and totally fun! I didn’t want the night to end however, responsiblity called and reminded me that I had a very busy day ahead of me on Saturday. So even though I played at being a Naughty School Girl–I am still a good girl at heart and I went home. (by myself, heh)

Saturday started off watching the Razorback game with my pal (and Alabama fan) Marley Gibson. Then the fabulous Linda Gerber joined us. After that farce of a game (can NOT even talk about it) we drove over to North Little Rock to meet Stacey Jay and her cutie-patootie hubby and Rosemary Clement-Moore for some appetizers.

Then we had the book signing at Books-A-Million. It went pretty well considering we were competing with the Miley-freaking-Cyrus concert. Lots of great costumes, fun trivia questions, and tasty treats. Met Chloe Neill for the first time. Totally awesome chick.

While there, I found out that BITE ME! has been chosen for the Books-A-Million Twilight Book Club! Look! Not only do I get great placement, but I get a sticker, too!

Sunday, Marley and Me (hehehee) went out for a very lovely and inexpensive brunch before I took her to the airport. We had a great time and was so good to see her again.

Now it’s back to the normalcy of laundry, house cleaning, cooking, and homework. Hmmm. I like the busy weekends better.

Hope y’all had a good one. Anything you wanna share?

Saturday list

  1. Go Hogs. Beat Rebs.
  2. Multi-Author Book Signing at the North Little Rock Books-A-Million tonight from 5-8 PM.
  3. Here is a pic of me from last night’s Halloween party. We had a great time and I really embraced my role as Cliché, The Naughty School Girl

Booklist review for BITE ME!

First Publisher’s Weekly gave BITE ME! an outstanding review.

And now Booklist joins the ranks of great taste in reading with their fabulous review! (you can sign up for a free trial subscription to read the review on their site or you can just read it below…)

For AJ Ashe, fitting in means keeping her fangs hidden. She has always considered herself “way more human than vampire,” but since starting senior year, things have become more complicated. Her mom has just remarried, and now AJ’s hot boyfriend is her new stepbrother (not hot); her English teacher claims that she cheats (not true); and she might have turned a too-grabby classmate into a vengeful vampire (not good). AJ has an increasingly tough time keeping her vampire identity a secret as she faces unexpected dangers, as well as discoveries about her past, new family, and, ultimately, her own future. AJ is an appealing, thoroughly modern teen vampire whose engaging, funny, matter-of-fact narrative is packed with pop culture, from brand names to Buffy. Intricate vampire lore and diverse characters, including classmates and a history teacher with secrets of his own, add depth and drama to AJ’s struggle to navigate—and survive—ordinary teen and vampire life. Though some readers may guess key plot developments, they will nonetheless enjoy this fun, fang-filled debut and anticipate its sequel.

I am stoked! Two big names in the industry have had very positive things to say about my little book. Color me pink with happiness.

mish and mash

This will just be a mishmash of news, updates, and whatever else I decide to tell y’all.

For the Mish part:

BITE ME! has gone into a 3rd printing….just a month into its release! I’m totally stoked about this. Now, has everyone out there bought their minimum of two copies yet? Remember, it’s a rule:

Her debut novel titled Bite Me! is scheduled to hit the shelves Fall 2009 on the shelves now and she totally expects everyone who has met her, talked to her, emailed her, or uttered her name to buy at least two copies.

LOVE SUCKS! has an official release date….July 27, 2010! (almost exactly a year to the date from BITE ME!) I should also have a cover soon, which I’m very excited about.

I started working on 2 new projects this week and I have a 3rd project waiting in the wings. It feels really good to be working on something new again!

And now for Mash (not to be confused for M*A*S*H):

Rader (not to be confused for RadAr from M*A*S*H not Mash) has joined the chess club. He came home last week and informed me he was either going to try out for Archery or Chess…and Chess won the battle.

Ian has already had a ‘bad’ haircut, which was actually a great haircut but he said it was too ‘Emo’ (not to be confused with Emo Phillips. One has nothing to do with the other) and we had to get it fixed. So my awesome Katie fixed him right up. Ian is now no longer ‘Emo.’ (apparently I like Emo. Go figure)

My Thurz Girls are saying goodbye to one of our favorite waiters tonight Paolo and his family are headed back home. It’s a sad day here in the Rock.

I don’t know what I’m going to wear to work today. Must get on that.

Any mish or mash you’d like to add?

Mel on TV

Tomorrow morning, I will be interviewed on KATV’s show Daybreak. It’ll air early–in the 7:00 hour; they think around 7:10. So if you’re in Arkansas, set your dvr (if you’re not awake) and watch me make a fool of myself in my first ever television interview.

Have a great weekend, y’all!
