in the garden

I’m in the garden and can’t come to the blog. Please leave a message after the beep…

Oh, I did blog over at Fictionistas today–about yardwork. Go Figure.
Fictionistas

Did y’all do anything fun this weekend? Talk amongst yourselves…

hullloooooo!

Do you hear the echo on my blog? When I woke up this morning, I thought Hmmm, I should blog and when a tumbleweed rolled by, I realized it really was starting to look like a ghost town around here.

I’m trying (and obviously failing) to get into a blog routine again. I haven’t felt the mojo lately. I’m sure it’s because I’ve been blowing and going since before Thanksgiving. Moving is stressful enough, but to move during the holidays and while working on your first set of revisions? As my favorite Angry Beaver would say, That’s just NUTS!

Fishdog is in Oxford this week, so dudes, call him tonight if y’all wanna go out for a bevvy. He’d appreciate it. Especially since he came home to discover the heat had gone out. Oh yeah, nothing like trying to get cozy in a 53 degree empty house (well, there is a bed). Brrrr. Just add ‘fix heater’ to our long list of things to do. (Thanks, Dino for putting him up for the night!)

Christmas shopping is done except for the stocking stuffers. I have to mail out 4 gifts today…one of them is my Romance Diva Secret Santa gift. I hope the person I picked loves it! I’m also mailing my CPs their gifts and my niece in North Carolina hers.

We still don’t have a tree. Fishdog has been kinda Grinchy lately. Can you believe he actually suggested we CANCEL CHRISTMAS? hello!!! Are you kidding me? I’ve been living with my mother for 4 months. I deserve Christmas. And so do the boys. So, we’re getting a tree today. I don’t care if it’s a Charlie Brown tree…it’s still a tree. Fishdog says he’s bringing me my decorations from Oxford. I won’t over do the decorating–Christmas is only a week away. But I do want to hang the stockings and a wreath.

Okay, I’m hitting my revisions now. They’re due Friday and maybe a Christmas miracle will happen and I’ll get them finished! 🙂 It’ll be down to the wire, that’s for sure. What’s been going on with y’all? You done shopping? You started shopping? Wrapping? Did you overspend this year or is that just status quo?

my bad…

I know you’ve missed me. Go ahead, admit it. It’s okay. I’ve missed me, too.

What’s goin’ on? Anything new?

Let me tell ya, I have lots of blogging material to get me through the next few weeks. A few topics you can look forward to reading:

Customer Service: It’s What’s for Dinner.
How to blow up your brand new house in 1 easy step.
All I Want for Christmas is to get my Revisions Done.
Procrastination is not only a gift, it’s an art form
Living Among the Boxes
Wii care. Oops. Wii lied, Wii really don’t care at all.
If I had a hammer, I’d fall and break my neck.

Today’s blog topic, I’d like to introduce you to our newest family member. As you might recall, our beloved Charlie died back in August. Our sweet dog Pete, hasn’t been the same since. He’s been very depressed and with the move and everything, he hasn’t quite bounced back. So, we’d decided it was time to get him a friend.

Meet Ruby:

She’s my baby. I have always wanted a black Pug and now I have my baby. She’s the most awesome puppy ever, and we are all totally smitten.

Okay, back to revisions. Or not. Remember, procrastination is not only a gift, it’s an artform…

checking in then checking out…

Hey y’all. I’m probably gonna be absent for a while. First of all, I’m neck deep in paint. Then there’s the whole Thanksgiving thing, where I’ll take a break from painting to eat. Then on Friday, the Hogs play LSU…the number one team in the nation right now. It might not be pretty, but I can’t miss it!

After the game Friday, we’re headed to Oxford. We’re gonna load up the truck and officially move. That’s right, I’ll sleep in my brand new house this weekend. Excellent.

Oh, and during all this, I also have to finish revising Bite Me! to send to fabulous editor by Friday. Yeah, I’m gonna be just a little bit busy.

I’ll see you next week!

Love y’all. Mean it!

hermit

I won’t be around much this week. I dunno. I could be lying (it’s been known to happen before). I might be around a lot this week. But plans are, I’ll be up to my hooha in writing and won’t have time to post my drivel. We’ll see.

I’m in Oxford this week…with NO CAR. Yes, that’s right. I’m rideless. Which is perfect, because I need to hunker d0wn and write. However, if I run out of booze groceries, I’ll be calling some of my friends for help. Just letting y’all know in advance.

My plans are to finish 1st draft of Bite Me! by next Friday, get it to CPs for them to tell me it’s total shit and needs to be completely overhauled. Then I’ll completely overhaul it and send it to fab editor for her to tell me it’s total shit and needs to completely overhauled. Rinse. Repeat. Sound like a plan?

So, until we meet again.

hello again.

I took a day off from Blogging because I was too busy writing. I had a bit of a breakthrough yesterday and it felt great and I didn’t wanna break the momentum to talk about nothing.

Which, let’s face it, my blog is the “Seinfeld” of blogs. Which is fine. Apparently I can talk about nothing all day long.

I’m sitting in Community Bakery this morning, enjoying my hubby’s company and my cup o’ joe. We’ve been temporarily relocated to my in-laws’ house, due to an unfortunate septic tank incident. Fishdog’s parents don’t have a wireless network. Hell, they barely have internet, truth be told. So, we had to set out this morning for food and our internet fix. MUST. CHECK. MAIL. she says, thumping a vein…Hurry. Hurry….

Ahhhhhh. Much better. I can’t imagine not being able to wake up and log in to delete the 17 spam messages I get every morning.

I’ll be spending next week in Oxford. My plan is to become a hermit inside my own home and write. I have a lofty page count goal, but since I’ll have no kids, no hubby, no carpool line, no soccer, no cross-country…I might be able to hit my mark.

Today I have my first hair appointment since relocating. This girl has been highly recommended by a friend and apparently enjoys a client who enjoys changing her hair. We’ll see what happens…

So what’s going on with you? Anything big happen this week or any plans for next?

Oh and before I forget…
Woo Pig Sooie! Beat Kentucky!

checking in then checking out…

So, I spent the weekend in Oxford. Got in Friday night, dropped Rader off with a friend and then headed to my next door neighbor’s house for some late night swimming. The water was so warm it was like swimming in a giant hot tub–or giant pool of pee. We decided the hot tub analogy was better.

Saturday was a day for cleaning. We didn’t accomplish as much as we wanted to but we did get the back 3 bedrooms and bathrooms cleaned and in ship shape. Then we went to see our friends Richard and Heather in Water Valley, MS. It was a good time, but I thought I was gonna have to cut Rich’s fingers off. He kept trying to touch my nose “diamond”. And he kept saying “you got something on your nose.” Yeah, that never got old. But it was Richard, so I forgave him. Besides, he’s from Alabama, he really doesn’t know any better.

I wasn’t feeling very well, so we left a little early. I was in bed by 9:30 that night. It seems my mother passed on her chest cold to me. Ian had it last week…so bad he actually missed his 3rd day of school. I’ve been fighting it with everything I’ve got. Vitamins, sleep, airborne, more sleep…today I’m feeling much better. Which is good because I didn’t want to go to the beach with a cold.

Oh, did I forget to mention I’m going to the beach this week?

Sorry ’bout that.

I’ll try to blog some while I’m there, but honestly, don’t be surprised if you don’t hear from me. I don’t think I’ll be able to type while I’m two-fisting my beverages…

I’ll be back on Sunday night. If you haven’t heard from me by next Monday, call the blog police.

My workout was good this morning. I ran 2.15 miles in 30 mins on the eliptical and did arms and abs. I know I’m still as slow as a snail, but it feels good to be back in the exercise saddle. I have to make sure I at least walk while at the beach this week–otherwise it will be like starting over again next week.

Maybe I’ll drink light beer while I’m playing the role of Sungoddess. Okay, maybe not.

Any book recommendations for my week of lounging?

land of internet

I’m back in the land of internet.

Thank God. I hate downloading my email to my phone because inevitably, when I return an email, it gets hung up and the recipient gets 400 copies of the same email. Plus, I can’t always get my pics to download and this past week, I apparently received some excellent photos from Feisty this week and I should have never had to wait to see those.

I read 3 books in 3 days. I would HIGHLY recommend all three.

The Leopard Prince
by Elizabeth Hoyt

Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband
by Melissa Mayhue

Lord Sin by Kalen Hughes

It’s been a long time since I’ve read a really good historical. I believe the last time was earlier this year when I read Antonia’s Bargain by Naughty Kate. If you like historical romance, run, don’t walk, to Amazon.com (see links above) and buy all three of these books.

You won’t be sorry.

I will be buying these authors again.

conference wrap up…

Nic and Maria

First of all, thanks so much to Jude over at Blogging National who did a fantastic job of posting blogs as they were being updated. You rock, girly!

As always, the conference was a big blur. The literacy signing seemed ultra crowded this year. The RWA Online party was low key but very fun. Lots of great food and emcee entertainment by Jenna “What’s your secret?” Mayson. Lots of fun with feather boas, badges and cowboy hats. And of course, the highlight of my night…meeting and chatting with Smart Bitch Sarah over a plate of guacamole (okay, my serving was more like a wheelbarrow of guac, but nobody was watching, right?) Unfortunately, I was not thinking and didn’t get photographic evidence of our meeting. But I promise it happened.

Friday was filled with a couple of dud workshops and a nap. Seriously, I felt a little old, but I couldn’t go on after 2:00. I guess it was left over exhaustion from Drag Queen Karaoke. So totally worth being exhausted over, though.

Then Saturday I went to the 2 greatest workshops ever. Michael Hague Hauge is a fantastic teacher. When you get your conference CDs listen to his workshops. You won’t be sorry.

The Golden Heart/Rita awards were fun. We got to get all dressed up and pretend to be girly-girls and root for our nominated friends. I’d like to give a major shout out to my pal Barb (Caridad Ferrer) who won the Rita for Best Contemporary Romance. You go, my friend! It’s a great book and the win is well deserved! (and to all you haters out there, shut it!)

Then after the awards, we met at the bar for our final round of liver training. We had quite a large crowd–a good mix of Romance Divas and RWA Onliners. While sitting there with my peeps, Louisa and Maria noticed that Michael Hague Hauge was sitting across the atrium all alone–just him and his cheesecake. They told me, nay, they DARED me to go ask him to join us. I’m not sure what they thought his reaction was going to be…but apparently Louisa thought it might end badly.

Hah.

Never doubt the power of Mel and her feather boa.

Michael joined us and we were like putty in his hands as he talked about movies and actors and storytelling. Of course, he and Maria have TERRIBLE taste in movies aside from a few. But I forgave him that because he was so damn nice.

My feather boa paid off because he offered a ride to anyone who would be leaving for DFW in the morning at 10:45…so guess who got to ride in the Towncar with Michael Hague Hauge the next day?

That’s right! Moi!

Sooooo much better than the supershuttle.

I returned home to a house in need of packing. I’ve been a bit overwhelmed with having to work and trying to ready a house to go on the market this weekend. Sorry I’ve neglected my blogging duties. I’ll have more pics soon, just be patient.

Finally, I want to give one last shout out to our regular waiter Chris/Alejandra (long story). He did his best given the circumstances and I never once had any trouble getting him to wait on me. I’m guessing it wasn’t so much the cleavage as some like to believe, it was the fact that I took the time on Monday to learn his name, I tipped him well and with a smile every time he waited on me. For the record gang, Cleavage might get you preferential service the first time, but if you’re all tits and no smile or all tits and no tip, you’ll never get served again. Being friendly can get you anywhere. It also ensures that you are never lonely or without a beverage.

And Killer, I do plan on another round of “Who’s tits are these?” So try not to worry.
