Month of Mel 2012: Day 8

I’m in a 2 hour meeting so I need you to help me build our STUDIO 54 playlist:

BeeGees
Donna Summer
Gloria Gaynor
The Weather Girls
Barry Manilow

There’s plenty more…so go ahead, give me artist or song…here or on FB…. AND GO!

Month of Mel 2012: Days 6 & 7

Sorry about missing yesterday. I got up late, was busy at work, and by the time I got home, I just didn’t feel like blogging.

However, my Bachelor The Women Tell All recap did get posted yesterday…You should click the link and go read it. And you should retweet it and forward it on and like it on facebook and do whatever you can to help a sista out. Actually, I think you should go read all my Bachelor recaps because I’m funny. Also we’re having a contest and the more people who go to Hey Don’t Judge Me from my posted links, the better chance I have at winning $100. I’m not gonna lie. I want to win.

BTW, we’ve added two knew shows…my Canuck friends should be very happy we’ve added BOMB GIRLS! and we’ve also added White Chapel.

The girls got a little stabby with each other on Women Tell All. I really wanted to see some real blood or at least some Jell-o Wrestlin’…sadly, it was just their words that cut like a knife.

ION, mine and Bell Bottoms’ Studio 54 themed Housewarming/Birthday Bash is getting closer. Last night I purchased some Gold and Silver door fringe as well as a bubble machine. I may or may not have also added these to my outfit of awesome:

Now, if I can just make sure my hair does what it’s supposed to do. Note to self: Buy lots of Rave #4.

El Jefe is going to have an amazing mustache. AMAZING. Now we just need to find him some gold chains…

Month of Mel 2012: Day 5

Let us observe a moment of silence for Bobcat Greyskull. He lost his tail last July, and today he’s losing his man-parts.

In more glamorous news, Bell Bottoms, Nipsy and I went Disco Diva shopping this weekend. Check out THIS awesome find. I will not be wearing the pajama pants at the party…

If the mail runs correctly, I will be wearing THESE pants instead:

And the shoes that Nipsy found for me at Savers? AMAZING.

I’m also thinking that maybe this is the perfect color for my toes…

It’s gonna be a groovy time…and I can’t wait to see El Jefe decked out. You know he’s gonna be hot. Especially if he’s sporting a super 70s ‘stache…

Month of Mel 2012: Day 2

It’s Day 2 of the Month of Mel and it’s already been a banner month! (get it? Banner? and I posted a Month of Mel banner? See what I did there?)

It’s going to be 80 degrees today. It’s like Mother Nature is bowing down to my awesomeness and granting me my every wish. Well, my current weather wish… I’m wearing sandals today! I’m so happy I got a pedicure a couple of weeks ago…

Robyn (formerly known as Birdrunner, currently known as Bell Bottoms) and I have been planning a super fun combo housewarming/birthday party. There will be disco balls, gold lame’ and white suits galore! I can’t wait! We are gonna party like it’s 1979 next weekend.

I’m working on a fabulous playlist. Any suggestions? Don’t worry, I’ve got the BeeGees and Donna Summer…and definitely we’ll have some Copa Cabana! Can’t have a disco without a little Barry Manilow.

Her name is Lola, she is a showgirl…with yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there…

OH guess what? I got my first Month of Mel prezzie last night. I heart my friends who love to play along…

Happy Friday! Sparkle on my friends!

Month of Mel 2012: Day 1

For those of you who aren’t familiar with how and why the Month of Mel came to be:

The Month of Mel: A History Lesson

March 1. A day of sunshine and sparkle in the Rock and I’m totally stoked. It’s a beautiful day to start out the Month of Mel…and I’m going to enjoy all it has to offer.

And to get you revved up and ready, here’s a song that always makes me smile. If you’re not shaking your groove thing during this song, you’re dead inside.

and for a fun remix, enjoy this b.o.b. version.

Welcome one and all. I hope you’re ready for some extra bright sparkle this month! I’m gonna crank it up to eleven y’all!

I cannot tell a lie

I’m very excited about seeing The Lorax. It was one of my all time favorite Dr. Seuss books, even with it’s doom, gloom, and smog. It was reality wrapped up in tiny furry guy with a giant yellow mustache.

Also, I wanted a Truffula Tree

I mean, who wouldn’t want a tree that looked like Cotton Candy growing in their yard?

Guess who’s never read The Lorax? El Jefe. Guess who’s gonna be reading it very soon? El Jefe.

Heh.

So it’s Monday morning, and I spent the weekend running Rader to soccer, walking, burning stuff, and having beers with Birdrunner. El Jefe and I also took the dogs to the park where they explored the creek and had a very fun time.

Oh! And I washed my car! BlueBelle hasn’t had a bath in a very long time. She looks so much better now.

I’m sure I did other stuff too, but really, who cares? My life is so boring, I’m even putting myself to sleep. Sorry about that.

Hopefully, it won’t stay boring too much longer, because The Month of Mel begins in 3 days….

Are. You. Ready?

here we go again

It’s Monday morning, I’m at my desk but wishing I was still in bed. If you know me at all, this should not surprise you…

We had a fairly uneventful weekend. I mean, other than the heart attack and stroke we had on Friday after paying the vet bill for 2 dogs. Obviously, paying the bill affected them too, as both Ruby and Trinity spent all night in this position:

It was (obviously) very hard work going to the vet. The good news is, Trin Trin is healthy and Ruby-Doo’s skin infection is clearing up.

Saturday I finally regained some of that elusive energy that I’ve spent months trying to find. I’ve been no fun lately, so when I woke up before 8:00 and felt like cleaning, I knew I was getting back on track. I did a little shopping, then came home and scrubbed my bathroom. Sunday, I deloused and defunked the boys’ rooms. Then I took a boiling hot shower in bleach. I may never rid myself of the stench of teenage boy and sweaty feet.

So even though I didn’t get to do anything very exciting, I did accomplish quite a bit. \o/

Are you watching Downton Abbey? OMG I ❤ that show. Last night had me choked up. I’m such a girl.

The Month of Mel is just 10 days away. I’m thinking I should start myself another “to do” list for the year. Give me some fun goals to work toward. Give myself the things I’ve always wanted but have never gotten. Like buy myself a pair of diamond earrings. Get my passport. Go somewhere exotic. Learn to belly dance. Get another tattoo…Should I try for 43 things to do at 43?

Oh and one more thing. Another daffodil popped up over the weekend, so I gave it to one of Baby Bear’s ladies….cool, huh?

Month of Mel: The End

And it’s another gloomy day here in The Rock. Luckily it’s supposed to be gorgeous and in the 70s this weekend…because the past week or more it has been cold, gray, and just plain yucky. I had to turn my heat back on! This should never happen after one has slept with the windows open. Someone needs to brush Mother Nature up on the RULZ.

I’ll be daydreaming all day that this is what I’m doing. Can’t you feel the sun warming your skin? Don’t you just wanna jump into the water and cool off?

Oh summer-like weather: Why hast thou forsaken me?

So we bring the Month of Mel to a close with dreams of sunkissed skin and lots of frolicking in the water. Let’s all dive into the deep end today!

2011: Month of Mel Day 29: Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

(That’s Cotton to you)

This pic is from my launch party for BITE ME! in August 2009. My hair is redder now and I’m about 20 lbs lighter (and those glasses are at the bottom of Lake Ouachita)… but my daddy still looks the same. 🙂 Here’s some fun trivia about Cotton.

  • He had WHITE hair until he was in his late teens–hence his nickname.
  • He always wore a leather belt with his nickname engraved on the back.
  • I have never heard him call me by my name. It’s either Lissa Jane (my middle name is Renee) or it’s “Gal.”
  • He coached my softball teams for most of my life. This was a blessing and a curse.
  • When he was told Ian’s name after he was born, Daddy asked, “N?” as in L, M, N, O, P?” Sadly, he was not the only person who asked that. And even more sadly, Ian has a friend who has never called him anything other than N. hahaha
  • He taught me to change my oil and tires when I was a teen. (now I have Goodyear for that.)
  • He had 2 favorite sayings when I was growing up: “She’s so ugly she’d have to sneak up on a pail of water to get a drink.” and “Wish in one hand and “mmmmph” in the other and see which one fills up first.” (btw, he always said “mmmmph” and I was in my 20s before I learned that “mmmmph” was actually supposed to be”shit.” The saying never made sense to me until that moment.)
  • His favorite dessert was canned peaches with oreos crushed on top. (I know, right? *shudder*)
  • Nobody can fry fish better.

I would also like to send a shout out and a big HAPPY SWEET 16 to my darling niece TAYLOR MARIE. I love you kiddo and miss you lots and lots. Hope to see you this summer!!!
