milestones

Has anyone seen these two boys? No? Yeah, me either…

As of this morning, my baby is a freshman in high school. I mean. Wow.

Also, I bought textbooks for my eldest son today…who will be a freshman in college next week. (I had to sell a kidney to pay for them, thankfully his financial aid will ease that pain some…)

Growing up is hard on a momma.

today…

I woke with a helluva headache this morning. I got up at 4:30 a.m., took Rader to football practice, came home and popped some painkillers and slept a little bit more. I was an hour late for work, but thankfully my co-workers are cool. The tardiness was worth it because I am now headache free and to celebrate, I’m wearing my red sundress.

Sorry you can’t see the full dress, but you get the point. I’m smiling. I’m wearing red. All is right in the world.

I’m having to deal with a little bit of pettiness right now and it’s kind of difficult for me because I just don’t understand making big deals out of little things. I mean, sure, I get hormonal on occasion and overreact to little things every once in a while, we all do. But pettiness just to be spiteful? Yeah, I don’t get it. It just makes people seem ugly and small. So I’m doing some mental yoga and moving on, because somebody has to let go…and thankfully because I can, I’ll still be smiling. (See photo as proof). I like being happy on the inside and out. It really does make life so much better. So for today (and everyday that I can manage) this will be my motto:

Isn’t that sunset beautiful? It brings me lots of peace. I took this last year at Lake Ouachita.

I also am a big fan of NEVER LET ANYONE DULL YOUR SPARKLE. Hah! As if…

In other news, my monkey-boy Rader will be a freshman in high school tomorrow. I can’t believe it. And my tree-frog Ian will be a freshman in college next week. Where did the time go?

weekend roundup

I’m not gonna lie to you folks, there was a lot of napping going on this weekend.

Also, I did some sitting outside, with my notebook and computer to work out some plot issues on my current WIP. Yeah, the work-in-progress that was showing no progress because I wasn’t working on it? That’s the one.

Well, I decided to work on it some. I love to write, I love to create, but sometimes it’s like exercising for me. If I don’t do it almost everyday, I start to dread it…I start to feel like I’m not good at it anymore, I totally psych myself out.

The good news is, I had LOTS of plotting help from the girls.

Like the old school pen and ink to paper plotting method I was using? That’s how I roll, baby.  Ruby and Trinity didn’t approve of my Luddite method, but they stuck around to assist me anyway.

Now I just have to keep it up on a daily basis. Y’all don’t let me get distracted by the sparkly things, the squirrels or the internetz…okay?

we just had ourselves a little Journey moment…

Yes, I’m a little bit excited about this:

Journey, Pat Benatar, and Loverboy in concert….

I even wore Rock-n-Roll hair today to celebrate the awesome. (actually, I wore bed-head hair as rock-n-roll hair but whatever.) See y’all at Verizon on October 9!

BTW, Hit Me With Your Best Shot was once upon a time my go to Karaoke song… There is a picture somewhere from a certain bachelorette party with me and my “date” for the night, (we named him Big Bob) “singing” a duet. Of course Big Bob was so full of hot air that he didn’t really sing at all.

Also, Journey has some of my all time favorite songs ever. Good Morning, Girl has always put a smile on my face…even if it is only 1 minute 44 seconds long.

Happy Friday y’all! Get your rock-n-roll hair on and have your own Journey moment this weekend!

fun with breakfast

Okay, so I got these new camera apps yesterday and I’m kind of developing a habit. But these apps are cool and so whatever. Shut up.

This morning, I decided to take pics of my blueberries and almonds just to see how different each lens filter was using the “Fisheye” camera.

Yes. I have a problem. I’m aware of said problem and I’m working on it. (by upgrading the apps to the paid versions so I can have access to even MORE awesome… I mean, nothin.)

Maria Geraci: A GIRL LIKE YOU

Today is release day for my BFF writer friend in Florida…This is her 4th book. You better get your happy-ass out there and buy it. Especially if you enjoy reading, fun, love, more fun, and good writing.

This woman knows how to tell a story. Period.

A GIRL LIKE YOU

Every ugly duckling is a swan in waiting…

Emma Frazier is smart, hardworking, and loves her job as a journalist for a Florida lifestyle magazine. Emma knows she’s no great beauty, but she’s pretty certain she has a shot with her handsome new boss, Ben Gallagher—until Emma overhears a mutual acquaintance refer to her as the “ugly friend.” In an effort to reclaim her battered self-esteem, Emma decides to impress Ben at work by promising an exclusive interview with NASCAR legend, Trip Monroe.

Emma and Trip went to high school together and although it’s been fourteen years since they’ve spoken, Emma is certain she can score an interview with the elusive super star. But connecting with Trip turns out to be harder than Emma imagined. Her quest for the interview leads her back to her tiny hometown of Catfish Cove, where old secrets and a new romantic interest shake up Emma’s views on life and teach her that maybe the key to finding true love is as simple as accepting yourself for the person you were always meant to be.

I love you, my friend.

places to go; people to see

Hoping to arrive in Oxford today just in time for Happy Hour. It will be the happiest hour of all if I get to see you there! Yes you. And even YOU! (sorry…not you though…)

Rader’s BFF still lives there and they haven’t had a chance to nerd out in a while, so after football practice this morning, we’re heading over.

Speaking of football…Check my monkey boy out. Half pads practice this morning. Aw. Why am I being all squishy about this?

OMG. I do have a heart. Shhhhhh. Don’t go spreading those ugly rumors that I’m sentimental and soft. I like it when people think I have no soul. Now, where’s my tissue. I’ve got something watery in my eye.

look out world

I believe life should be lived in color…noisy and full of life. Sometimes it’s hard to do, but it is what I strive to do every day.

No matter how awkward it is, you should always be yourself. If others have a problem with your individuality, then that’s THEIR problem. Let them deal with it however they choose.

I say all this because today, my son registered for high school and I’m now officially a “Rocket Mom”. I hope the other Moms at CHS are ready for me…because I’m not your typical Catholic High mom, that’s for sure. Hell, I’m pretty certain I’m not typical at all…

See you around campus! And at the Pep Rallies, and the football games, and the homecoming dance…and whatever else us Rocket Moms are in charge of. Firing up my jet pack!

so here’s the deal…

What happened to freedom of speech?

What happened to the right to your own opinion?

What happened to freedom of choice? (hahahahahaha this one is my favorite.)

Why are we focusing on small issues like this? There are bigger things in this world to worry about.

These are the majority of the arguments I see when it comes down to the Chick-Fil-A protest. Now I can’t answer for anyone but myself, but I’m guessing I’m not the only one who shares this opinion.

(warning, I’ve been fighting a horrid cold since Sunday and right now I’m high on Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold medicine…)

I would argue that our right to protest and Dan Cathy’s opinion both fall under freedom of speech, opinion and choice. This is a free country. Period.

However, I’m not protesting Dan Cathy’s opinion or his religious beliefs. I am protesting a business lobbying and funding millions of dollars against human rights. I don’t care how you feel about homosexuality, I care that we are all human and we all have the same rights. Your religious beliefs have nothing to do with the rights of every single human in this country. NOTHING.

Chick-Fil-A  has donated millions of dollars to the hate group Family Research Council, a group that equates homosexuality with pedophilia and who would like to see sodomy and other “homosexual” acts re-criminalized.

Let me ask you this: If Chick-Fil-A had donated millions of dollars to an active Neo-Nazi/White Supremacist Group or a Anti-Women’s Rights group would you still think that chicken sandwich tasted so damn good?

To me, they are the same thing. Human rights. And it’s okay if you don’t agree with my stance but please don’t kid yourself that supporting Chick-Fil-A isn’t supporting their anti-human rights agenda, because it is. They will gladly take your money and funnel it on to a hate group.

This is about Human Rights. And withholding my $4.00 from them may not do much, but at least I know that I’m not actively supporting hate.

You do not want to step foot anywhere near Compound de MelJefe today. We are hacking and coughing up body parts and let me just say, the image behind the skull is not a pretty one. You should feel sorry for Jefe for having to look at me today. He deserves a medal.
