Because winter has got to go away.
Soon.

We will be at a lovely estate on the Mississippi river enjoying Saturday’s Super Moon. We are definitely going to be looking out for E.T.
I will be basking in the glorious super moonlight. Looking like this:
and y’all are going to be jealous Mo-Fos because you’re not with us. But don’t worry, we’ll be sure to have a grand time anyway. And you know I’ll take lots of pictures because I have a problem. I have an iPhone and I’m not afraid to point and click!
Today, it’s lunch and haircut with Rader. Then an appointment, then I’m off to finish laundry and pack so we can hit the road tonight when Jefe gets home from work. Aw. Yeah.
I don’t know if I’ll be updating the blog as we travel, but you never know! You can always check out my picture-trails from my instagram or facebook. Like I said, I have a problem. But I’m okay with it. I don’t need your approval to make me feel good about myself. (and if you find yourself in need of someone else’s approval to feel good, then you need to repeat after Stuart Smalley:)
“I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and, doggonit, people like me!”
Welcome to Tuesday! Where I will, from now on, feature a new pitiful picture of my pug RUBY.
Oh, Ruby. It’s so hard being you.
Sunday morning, I finally tried to pull myself out of bed and was all “It’s time to get out of bed, Ruby.” And this was her response:
pitifully shuffle on her belly to my leg, and “flump” her head down with a giant sigh, in the crook of my knee while staring at me with such a wretched stare, that I had to lie back to overcome the sadness.
I read this article today about a large-breasted teen who was denied entry to her prom because her boobs were too big. She was told to wear a wrap around her shoulders or she wouldn’t be allowed entrance.
Her parents are asking for a public apology because they don’t feel the “no cleavage” rule was actually being fairly enforced. As her mother said “All women are not created equal, and you can not compare a golf ball to a grapefruit. It ain’t gonna happen.”
Damn right.
That dress is very age appropriate and lovely. Shame on that school for shaming her for what she comes by naturally.
This stupid head cold of mine is trying to kick my ass. And now, I’ve spread my germs to Jefe. We are THE HOUSE OF THE INFECTED. Enter at your own risk.
My mom called from Down Under yesterday. She’s having a great time! They were just at The Ayers Rock and were heading to Queensland. She’s going to New Zealand soon. All-in-all she will be Down Under for almost a month! I’m so happy that she’s fulfilling her dream! Let’s hope that when I’m 74, I’ll be able to rock life like she does. IF THIS STUPID COLD LET’S ME LIVE THAT LONG.
I don’t know about y’all, but I had a pretty fantastic weekend.
First off, we had driving lessons #2 and #3 this weekend. Rader did great! He’s becoming a pro!
We’re practicing at Burns Park, so we took a moment to appreciate one of my favorite places while we were there:
Rader ran the Rocket 5K Saturday morning, so after our driving lesson, we came home and he seriously fell flat asleep at 4:30 and didn’t move until the middle of the night. Poor kid. He was beat up. Probably he was worn out from all his awesome. (he gets that from his mother…)
He didn’t run wearing the horse head, that belonged to a friend. He did, however, run wearing that awesome shirt.
Sunday I found myself itching to be outside and get dirty…so I planted stuff. Welcome to my salsa garden!
In the pots we have tomatoes and peppers. In the herb planter, we have sweet basil, dill, rosemary and cilantro.
My handsome domestic partner (heehee) helped me repair the herb planter… I like having a man who’s good with his hands at my disposal…
I saw my first snake of the season, too. It was a wee-itty-bitty thing. And it was magical…it disappeared right before my eyes! I hope it was a king snake and not a copperhead!
And just because, here’s your gratuitous Ruby pic. Isn’t she a gorgeous little hot mess?
Tomorrow we are heading to see the Travelers play! I love Dickey-Stephens park and this will be Jefe’s first experience with Traveler baseball! I can’t wait!
Hope y’all have a great week. Happy Monday!
I tried my first Pinterest recipe last night…and boy was it YUMMY!
We had homemade Mac and Cheese, bacon-wrapped Talapia, and stuffed crab shells. OMG. So freaking good. (FYI, the stuffed crab shells were from the seafood deli in Kroger. On sale for $1.00 each with Kroger card. It was a damn good deal and mighty tasty.) It was the only thing on our plate that I didn’t fix last night. Now Jefe knows why I love watching cooking shows like Top Chef so much. I get ideas and then I CREATE! Cooking…it’s food science!
I can’t wait to get home and eat some more Mac and Cheese. And now that I’ve made the recipe once, I have some ideas on how to tweak it. I used only Half and Half in the recipe and I think I needed to mix it up with milk. It’s very rich…and would be fantastic with lobster, scallops or crabmeat (or all of the above). Next time I’ll probably leave out the Dijon mustard. I didn’t use much, but it was still a pretty strong flavor.
Have you seen PinterestFail.com yet? I love that blog. “Where good intentions go to die.” HAH!
In Itty Bitty Kitteh news…she still has no name…but she is settling in quite nicely.
Ruby is apparently still circling her. Jefe says she’s like a little annoying black shark. I guess new kitty smell is addictive…
I woke with a helluva headache this morning. I got up at 4:30 a.m., took Rader to football practice, came home and popped some painkillers and slept a little bit more. I was an hour late for work, but thankfully my co-workers are cool. The tardiness was worth it because I am now headache free and to celebrate, I’m wearing my red sundress.
Sorry you can’t see the full dress, but you get the point. I’m smiling. I’m wearing red. All is right in the world.
I’m having to deal with a little bit of pettiness right now and it’s kind of difficult for me because I just don’t understand making big deals out of little things. I mean, sure, I get hormonal on occasion and overreact to little things every once in a while, we all do. But pettiness just to be spiteful? Yeah, I don’t get it. It just makes people seem ugly and small. So I’m doing some mental yoga and moving on, because somebody has to let go…and thankfully because I can, I’ll still be smiling. (See photo as proof). I like being happy on the inside and out. It really does make life so much better. So for today (and everyday that I can manage) this will be my motto:
I also am a big fan of NEVER LET ANYONE DULL YOUR SPARKLE. Hah! As if…
In other news, my monkey-boy Rader will be a freshman in high school tomorrow. I can’t believe it. And my tree-frog Ian will be a freshman in college next week. Where did the time go?
I’m not gonna lie to you folks, there was a lot of napping going on this weekend.
Also, I did some sitting outside, with my notebook and computer to work out some plot issues on my current WIP. Yeah, the work-in-progress that was showing no progress because I wasn’t working on it? That’s the one.
Well, I decided to work on it some. I love to write, I love to create, but sometimes it’s like exercising for me. If I don’t do it almost everyday, I start to dread it…I start to feel like I’m not good at it anymore, I totally psych myself out.
The good news is, I had LOTS of plotting help from the girls.
Like the old school pen and ink to paper plotting method I was using? That’s how I roll, baby. Ruby and Trinity didn’t approve of my Luddite method, but they stuck around to assist me anyway.
Now I just have to keep it up on a daily basis. Y’all don’t let me get distracted by the sparkly things, the squirrels or the internetz…okay?
Okay, so I got these new camera apps yesterday and I’m kind of developing a habit. But these apps are cool and so whatever. Shut up.
This morning, I decided to take pics of my blueberries and almonds just to see how different each lens filter was using the “Fisheye” camera.
Yes. I have a problem. I’m aware of said problem and I’m working on it. (by upgrading the apps to the paid versions so I can have access to even MORE awesome… I mean, nothin.)
