daytime to concert…

Okay, having a day job in an office and working until 5:00 can sometimes put a cramp on your evening style. Because let’s face it, you don’t wanna wear your business casual slacks and top with you hair in a bun to an Alice Cooper/Rob Zombie show. It just wouldn’t be right.

Okay, you might want to, but, I wouldn’t want to…

So that left me with a dilemma this morning. How do I wear my inner Rock Chick on the outside without scaring the folks at my office?

We start off with Black. That’s easy enough. Black is the universal Rock Chick color and it’s also appropriate for the workplace.

But I can’t do my classic black stuff, because it’s just too classy. And then I’ll be the naughty librarian at the concert. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I suppose I could make it work… you know, with some red thigh highs and platforms…oh wait, wrong blog. Hahaha

So I chose a simple black dress that will go off the shoulder after work and is a scoop neck during business house. I belted it and have on my boots.

It’s totally Business Rocker Chic

Now onto the hair. What does a Rocker Chick do? Pony tail? Straighten it? Leave it be?

She curls it…that’s what she does.
Daytime to Rocker Chick ahoy!

I’ll just add a little glitter after work and I think I’m good to go!

Feed My Frankenstein!

Tomorrow night you will find me rockin’ out at the Rob Zombie/Alice Cooper concert.

I’ve always wanted to see Alice Cooper–Rob Zombie will just be a nice bonus. 🙂
Did you know I had a rocker girl buried deep inside me? Of course you did!
I’ve always loved Alice Cooper… even back in the day when he was accused of being a devil worshipper (along with KISS and Ozzy and WASP, etc. etc. etc.). Heh I’m such a rebel. *cough*
My real love for Alice bloomed when I watched Wayne’s World. This scene right here should make everyone love Alice Cooper. He’s awesome and I’m not worthy.

Now I wanna see Wayne’s World again. Right now.

And just so Rob Zombie doesn’t feel left out, here’s my fav of his songs:

Go for it, Roy!

My friend Kitteh (known to the rest of the world as Kristen Painter) has a new release today! It’s a Steampunk Novella e-book out with Samhain. Don’t forget to buy a copy!

The last thing she planned to steal was his heart.

The Company. Military institution, protector of Praeton and the nation of Grand Isle. Dirty rotten thief.

When Pandora Bramble steps aboard the Company’s premiere airship Daedalus it’s not for the exclusive VIP tour. It’s to secure proof that the Company stole the regulator valve her father designed—even if it means tearing the engine apart. Foiled by the unexpected appearance of a handsome crew member, she despairs of ever getting another chance—until he kisses her.

Captain Theolonius Hatch, sentenced to engine room duty for refusing to take part in the Company’s fleet week activities, never dreamed a woman like Pandora existed. Her brains match her beauty, a combination that adds up to more trouble than he ever expected.
As Pandora allows Theolonius to sweep her into a whirlwind courtship, her wildest dreams come true. As do her greatest fears, leaving her to decide what matters most. Loyalty…or love.

The clock is ticking.

Warning: This book contains airships, mechanical owls, women who are good with tools, men in and out of uniform, steam generated by engines and people, and some hot carriage scenes.

BTW: when you hear me say “Go for it, Roy!” it’s from this movie right here:

CLEANish

I spent the weekend cleaning.

THIS is what I pretended I looked like:

This is what I actually looked like:
Minus the smile + a glass bottle of wine.
I’ve been neglecting my house lately which may or may not say much becaue I’m not much of a housekeeper anyway. I’ve adopted the Joan Rivers attitude when it comes to cleaning:

Don’t clean. No man will ever make love to a woman because she waxed the linoleum- “My God, the floor’s immaculate. Lie down, you hot bitch.” ~Joan Rivers

True enough. And if waxing the linoleum (not a euphemism) ever became his idea of foreplay (floor play? bwahahahaha) I’d send him packing anyway. I’m not that chick.
BUT even I have my tipping point when it comes to an unclean very cluttered house, and this weekend I’d reached it. I’m not sure what came over me (I think my clone took over, honestly) but before I knew what was happening, I had a bucket of bleach water, a sponge, and I was on my hands and knees cleaning the floors. (again, not a euphemism, but I suppose it probably could be since I looked “so hot” in my French Maid outfit. *cough*)
I finally gave out last night around 7:30. I still have stuff left to do, and have plans to finish it tonight. Mostly just folding laundry and putting it away. I’m hoping that actually happens, because let’s face it, if the laundry doesn’t get put away, it’s like all that work I did was for nothing because there will be piles and piles of laundry everywhere that we’ll just live off of until it’s all dirty again and then I’ll have to start all over.
Which is why I never clean, because why bother? You’re just gonna have to do it again. And you and I both know that a clean house is a sign of a boring person…and I’m anything but boring.
Hope you had a great weekend!

take 13 minutes and watch this. It’s powerful and important.

It’s National Coming Out Week and the internet has been flooded with “It gets better” stories. THIS is the single most powerful video I may have ever seen. Take the 13 minutes to watch it, even if you don’t think you have time. And then show it to your kids.

This is the son of a Texas Cowboy who is now a City Councilman in Fort Worth, TX. THIS is what every kid needs to know and every parent needs to hear. The bullying has to stop.

Thanks Stoney for posting this today. If Joel Burns ever runs for President, he will get my vote.

Melf: On Writing

Hahahahahaha Yeah, I’m sooooo Stephen King. I better be careful, he might kill me off with the touch of a gypsy’s hand in his next book! Oh wait, no he’ll just make me THINNER. I can live with that. Carry on Mr. King. (best diet ever!)

So you guys know I’ve been going through some unfun life stuff for the past 2 years or so. Writing became just as unfun to me. The advice I kept getting was force yourself to write, just make yourself do it and you’ll start liking it again. Well, that didn’t work for me at all.

Yesterday I announced I was going to start writing again last night. And I almost didn’t because I was having software issues and it was starting to irritate the crackers out of me. But then, El Jefe was all, “Why don’t you go old school with Notepad or just use something opensource like Open Office?” and I was all “because then I wouldn’t be procrastinating and that’s all I know how to do after a year of not being able to write, but fine. Thanks. Whatever.“[insert eye roll] And then I opened Google Docs and started writing.

I have NO IDEA what this story is yet, but it poured out of me. Two pages of crap, right there…in just a couple of minutes. It’s in 1st person but I don’t even know who the character is. Hell, there may not even be a story…it could just be therapy. Whatever. It’s writing. And it felt good to do it again.*

I hope this is a sure sign that things are looking up and that maybe I’m cured. 🙂

*thanks for the nudge, El Jefe. I needed it.

just what i needed

Last night, for the first time in a VERY long time, I slept. ALL NIGHT. It was amazing. I woke this morning feeling like a different person.

Ironically, Dr. Oz said on his show yesterday that if you’re waking more than ONCE A WEEK and if it takes longer than 30 minutes to fall asleep a night, then more than likely stress is a factor and it’s a real problem.

Well, thanks for the advice, Doc. But I’m pretty sure I knew that waking every hour on the hour for at least 2 years was stress related. Especially when I used to sleep like the dead. (not the undead. I’m not a real fan of coffins…)

Life is changing and change is good…but it can be so stressful sometimes. I have always embraced change–I’ve never been one to let life happen to me. But these past couple of years I’ve done a lot of waiting and that really isn’t something I do well. I’m pretty impatient. I like action. And my life has been on hold and that has affected every corner of being. I haven’t slept well, my health has taken a few hits, my motivation has been waning, and even reading and writing hasn’t been fun.

That’s changing now. I’m happy again. I’m sleeping again. And as of today, I’m writing again.

Now if I could just win that lottery…

monday morning blues

Ruby and I were both very sad leaving Oxford in the wee hours this morning. See how forlorn she is? That’s because she left behind all the chewies that she had gathered up around the house since Thursday. The other dogs only THOUGHT those chewies belonged to them. Ruby let them know that without a doubt, they were only holding the chews for her.

The drive home was an easy one (no traffic and great coffee helped with that) I much prefer driving early than late.

Oxford was great this weekend. Friday night El Jefe grilled up some yummy portabella mushrooms with edamame which went really well with my Zolo Malbec. (I can’t find it in Arkansas, so I try to buy a bottle when I go to Oxford. I don’t think it’s sold west of the Mississippi or something!)

The view at night was lovely. The pool is way too cold to swim in now, but it sure is a fabulous backdrop for a nightcap.

Saturday we went to The Burgundy Room and watched both the Razorbacks beat the Aggies and the South Carolina Gamecocks beat Alabama! (sorry Marley, but that made me very happy) Then Saturday night more grill time with a yummy pork tenderloin with chilis and my very yummy mashed taters.

Oh! And while we were on the balcony of the Burgundy Room, we got to see a chick get arrested! (apparently she was beating on her boyfriend a block or so away. The boyfriend was also arrested.) Isn’t public intoxication awesome?

Sunday: Movies, football, beer, naps. Ahhhhhhhhh. Aren’t Sundays the best?

I hope your weekend was as relaxing and wonderful as mine was! Do anything fun or special?
