singing in the rain

It’s still raining here. It has pretty much rained everyday for two weeks. Happiness this does not make.

But I’m still singing. Because that’s what I do.

I love to sing. I suck at it, but I love to do it. I can’t help myself. I think it drives the family nuts, but whatever, they’ll eventually get over it or get used to it. Right?

I’m not the only ‘singer’ in my family though. Rader is constantly singing. It doesn’t matter if it’s a commercial, or a TV theme song, or a real song. He pretty much only has to hear it once and then he’s singing it. Word for word.

His favorites are the FREE CREDIT REPORT commercials. All of them. And for the record, I sing along with commercials, too.

It makes me smile every time he sings because deep down inside I know he inherited it from me. LOL

messages in a virtual bottle

Today the Universe sent me this message:

Act with faith, Melissa. Prepare the way for your inevitable success. To the degree you can, behave as if your dreams have already come true, as if you already owned a good book deal, as if later today you were going to a fabulous six figure book deal.. And you shall see the power you wield as the floodgates begin to tremble, the elements begin to conspire, people in your life begin to change, insights are summoned, comprehensions soar, and clarity is born.

Not to mention fierce, wild animals laying down when you pass by –
The Universe

And my horoscope said this:

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009 — You could become obsessed today with one particular idea that you have about your future. On the other hand, it’s possible for you to become quite fearful of being stuck in your current path and not liking where you end up. Either way, it’s crucial for you to loosen your mental grip so you can regain a healthier perspective.

And I’m sitting here wondering if one has anything to do with the other? If I loosen my mental grip, will I get that 6-figure deal? (or will I just hit the lottery?)

So, consider my mental grip loosened and my perspective healthier. Bring on that book deal.

Love ya, Universe. Mean it!

2 things

  1. Go to Fictionistas for pictures of my adventures in getting to the STAIND concert. Totally worth it. It was a hot mess Saturday full of drama but the end result was awesome.
  2. Go see Star Trek. If you can, go see it in IMAX. Best movie I’ve seen in forever. Amazing. Worth a full price ticket even–and I never say that. Ever.

what I want for Mother’s Day

Justin Timberlake

What I’m actually doing for Mother’s Day?

Taking the boys to the IMAX showing of Star Trek this morning then hanging out with my friend Stacey Jay this afternoon.

Life doesn’t suck, but I’m still holding out hope JT will knock on my door soon and make life suck even less.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you awesome moms out there. I have the best kids in the world. I know you think you do too, but you’re wrong. I do.

luck

Before I get to today’s blog, I just want to say, that yesterday I received a lovely shipment of BUNCO BABES TELL ALL by Maria Geraci and the book looks amazing in person. I love it. Have you received yours yet? Have you bought your copy yet? Don’t make me pick up my bat…

Now onto today’s regularly scheduled blog topic. And by ‘regularly scheduled’ I mean whatever I decided to write about 5 minutes ago. Because that’s just how I roll…

See this blurry picture of a four-leaf clover? I took that pic the other day after I finished my walk. Then I plucked that bad boy and now it’s taped to my laptop.

When I was a kid, I had a knack for finding four-leaf clovers. Actually, I wouldn’t even call it a knack. It was more like I’d look down and A FOUR-LEAF CLOVER WOULD START JUMPING UP AND DOWN AND SAY ‘HEY LOOK AT ME!’ and I would.

That’s pretty much what happened Monday when I found this one. I was just finishing my walk, and was about to go up my driveway when I looked down and there it was.

As a kid (okay and as an adult, too) I would spend hours entertaining myself by hunting for four-leaf clovers. One afternoon, I found a record number of 12. That must have been my luckiest day ever–funny I don’t remember anything else special happening that day.

Did you ever hunt for four-leaf clovers? I’ll admit it, since I found this one on Monday, I’ve been wishing the rain would go away so I could get back out in my yard and look for more. They never grow alone…

Happy Thursday everyone!

surviving an intergalactic space battle

War was waged above my house three different times last night.

Do you know how hard it is to dream about pool boys and hot tubs when an intergalactic battle is being fought in the sky above you?

Damn hard. I still somehow managed though–that’s how good I am.

Some ugly-ass storms made their way through Little Rock. After bed, the first one hit around 12:30. It was so loud and bright that the house shook and it woke my oldest up from the dead.

The next round hit about 3:30. Wow. It was another angry storm, but not nearly as war-like as the first.

It’s still raining this morning. It’s been raining pretty much straight since Saturday. I need some vitamin D–I got way too spoiled in Florida with all the sunshine. Although I’m pretty sure they’re gonna be getting this weather now, so if I go back, it’s gonna be AFTER this front passes.

I’m in an all day conference today. Everyone at work has been telling me these are fun, but I’m not so sure I believe them. But that’s okay. I won’t be in my cubicle today, so there’s a silver lining.

Did you buy Maria Geraci’s book BUNCO BABES TELL ALL yesterday? [picking up my bat] You’re doing it today, right?

DO NOT PASS GO

DO NOT COLLECT $200

Not until you run out and buy this book!!

Today is release day for debut author and my BFF, Maria Geraci. Run don’t walk to your local bookstore or just click here and order. (2 copies would be best. You know, so you can share.)

“BUNCO BABES TELL ALL is a steamy romp of a read whose lively characters kept me turning the pages.” Haywood Smith, NYTimes Bestselling Author

Meet the Bunco Babes of Whispering Bay. Every Thursday night they roll dice, drink frozen margaritas, and catch up on all the gossip in their small north Florida town. Kitty Burke is the only Bunco Babe who is still single—which is okay—but she’s thirty-five and may need to face that her image of Mr. Right is all wrong.

Take Steve. Very sexy—but on paper, with three failed marriages and a shady career, maybe not great husband material. And yes, his ring tone is “Freebird.” Certainly fellow Babes Shea Masterson and Pilar Diaz-Rothman vote thumbs down. But maybe there’s more to Steve than meets the eye? Is it time for Kitty to take a chance and hope that she can be as lucky in love as she is in Bunco?

Now being one of the lucky few, I’ve read this book. It’s laugh-out-loud funny. You don’t have to play Bunco or even know what Bunco is to enjoy this book. (I didn’t at the time. Now, however, I have been fully assimilated into a group.) Buy this book. You won’t regret it.*

*you may or may not regret it if you don’t buy this book. I’m not saying I will bust up your kneecaps or anything, but I do have a very heavy bat and I was once the queen of home runs. But don’t worry. You won’t see it coming.**

**I kid! I kid!***

***Or do I?

Monday, Monday, Monday

I’m blogging at Fictionistas today about 10 things I wish I’d known when I was younger

Today’s agenda: Getting my sparkle back on at the gym, meeting Arkansas Cyndi at Starbucks for some writing, cooking dinner, and chatting with friends.

Oxford was great. Had a super weekend with old friends. Enjoyed myself tremendously and was actually a little nostalgic.

How was your weekend? Accomplish anything? Do anything fun?

TGIF

So it’s Friday. And yes, I know I have no right to be happy about it since I just returned from Sungoddessville, but I don’t care. I’m happy.

Oh and it’s also May Day. Have fun wrapping up those May Poles today… (hmmm, I’m gonna let the safe sex euphemism go I think. Yep. This is me, letting it go.)

This will be a busy weekend. Tonight I have a soccer game to attend as well as a meeting with the lovely and talented Stacey Jay over a workshop we’re doing for our local writing group. (have you picked up her book yet? YOU ARE SO UNDEAD TO ME is such a great read. Go forth and buy it now. And while you’re there, pre-order BITE ME! <–shameless plug. Sue me. It's my blog!) Then tomorrow morning, I'm headed to Oxford (hey peeps! I'll be there 1 day and 1 day only! I'm up for lunch if you wanna holla!) I have a meeting with a Realtor at 2:00, we're going to put the HOUSE THAT WILL NOT GO AWAY back on the market. I know it will sell this time, but damn, I don't ever wanna go through this again. After that I'm meeting up with multi-pubbed hottie author ACE ATKINS who has been pimping me like the high class hooker I am to all the booksellers he knows. And he has some stuff to discuss with me. Which means I’ll buy him a beer and soak up whatever he has to offer. Then at 5:00 or so I’m having food and beverages with my friend Andrea who I’ve missed like a major organ. Then it’s a night on the square…or not. We’ll see.

Sunday, I drive home. Rest. And start over again on Monday.

Y’all got any big plans?

For today’s video, I Cure you…
