monday morning blues

Ruby and I were both very sad leaving Oxford in the wee hours this morning. See how forlorn she is? That’s because she left behind all the chewies that she had gathered up around the house since Thursday. The other dogs only THOUGHT those chewies belonged to them. Ruby let them know that without a doubt, they were only holding the chews for her.

The drive home was an easy one (no traffic and great coffee helped with that) I much prefer driving early than late.

Oxford was great this weekend. Friday night El Jefe grilled up some yummy portabella mushrooms with edamame which went really well with my Zolo Malbec. (I can’t find it in Arkansas, so I try to buy a bottle when I go to Oxford. I don’t think it’s sold west of the Mississippi or something!)

The view at night was lovely. The pool is way too cold to swim in now, but it sure is a fabulous backdrop for a nightcap.

Saturday we went to The Burgundy Room and watched both the Razorbacks beat the Aggies and the South Carolina Gamecocks beat Alabama! (sorry Marley, but that made me very happy) Then Saturday night more grill time with a yummy pork tenderloin with chilis and my very yummy mashed taters.

Oh! And while we were on the balcony of the Burgundy Room, we got to see a chick get arrested! (apparently she was beating on her boyfriend a block or so away. The boyfriend was also arrested.) Isn’t public intoxication awesome?

Sunday: Movies, football, beer, naps. Ahhhhhhhhh. Aren’t Sundays the best?

I hope your weekend was as relaxing and wonderful as mine was! Do anything fun or special?

I heart humpday!

The best part of the week is to come! YAY! Tomorrow is GNO…and we haven’t had one in a couple of weeks. *GASP*

Last night, Rader played da Foozball and he rocked it. Sacked the QB and had a fantastic punt! I tried to video the punt (I DID video the punt) BUT the sun worked against me. So all we could see was THE SUN! IT BLINDS!! and little blips doing blippy things on the field.

I did get a pic of me and my kid after it was all over…

Rader is 1.5 inches taller than me, but yesterday I was wearing 3 inch heeled boots and he didn’t like that I was taller, so he stood on his tiptoes. The pic is technically accurate…but now you know why. LOL

If you’re looking for me Friday night…you can find me watching this dude live:

I love Fridays the most!

football, friends, food and fabulousness

The only reason this wasn’t a perfect weekend is because the Razorbacks lost a hard-fought game. A game they pretty much owned until the last quarter. It was exciting all the way down til the last few minutes. I was hoarse by the end of it all.

This was the moment we pulled ahead by ten and I thought we were gonna win the game. I’m not quite sure how the #10 team (us) played the #1 team so well only to drop 5 points in the polls. WTH?

After the game, we went to a local restaurant and sat on the deck to enjoy the sudden fall-like weather. I know it’s actually fall…but usually we don’t get these cool temps until well into October. El Jefe and I ordered calamari, and to my surprise, there were itty-bitty fried squids on the plate; not just calamari rings…

Ok, the little whole squid thing freaked me out a wee bit. Creepy! And of course, I think there is a GIANT MOMMA SQUID exacting her revenge on every fisherman in the sea because her tee-tiny baby squid was fried whole.

This is gonna be a busy week. Rader has football tomorrow night, Ian is off for fall break where he is working like a junkyard dog for his Nonnie, Ian will also be taking baby steps toward learning to drive this week…(shhhh, don’t tell him) and then Friday night will be the Michael Franti and Spearhead concert! I’m doing Bark for Life walk Saturday morning with Ruby and then Rader has soccer Saturday afternoon.

In between all that, I’m thinking we may take a trip to a corn maze…because even though they freak me out a whole lot, I still think it would be kinda fun. 🙂

What’s going on with y’all this week? Anything fun?

changing seasons

I’m a little torn this year about moving from summer to fall. I’m not quite ready to give up my pool and lake time. I’ve had a great summer with friends and I’d really like to keep it going. Sunshine makes me happy. (it makes Ruby happy, too! and when the pug is happy, Everybody’s happy…)

That said, I’m also ready for fall. Sometimes there’s nothing better than waking up and having a cup of coffee on my screened in porch with a little chill in the air.

Or sleeping with the windows open! I love the fresh air and the battling sounds between city and country life.

And then there’s red wine. Mmmmm. I don’t drink it Alot a lot in the summer, but man in the fall…I can drink me some Pinot Noir or Cab Sav. Mmmmmmmmmm. Momma like.

And we can’t forget Foozball. I’m so ready. I do love to watch a good college game on the weekends and even head to the bar on a Monday night with my friend Jenn C. when the Ravens play. (I’m just supportive like that, you know.)

You know what else I love but haven’t done in FOR-FREAKING-EVER? Fall camping. I’d love to tent camp for a night or two, go hiking, cook some stew in a dutch oven over an open fire…have some Hot Damn to warm my inside parts. You can’t do that in the summer here in Arkansas. It’s just too bloody hot! But starting now through October and sometimes mid-November, you absolutely can.

So I’m not ready to let go of summer yet, but I am so ready to start participating in my favorite fall activities. I guess it really doesn’t matter what I want though, does it. The season will change with or without my permission. I guess Mother Nature didn’t get the memo that I’M IN CHARGE NOW, BITCH. Hmph.

dangerous curves ahead.

Do you know how strong my will power is?

Here, let me show you it:

My will is SO STRONG that I managed to walk away without buying this Spongebob skully and glove set. I wanted it. Oh, my how I wanted it. But I didn’t succumb to the bright yellow siren call. I walked on by.

Yes. If this were Oh Brother Where Art Thou, I would not be turned into a horny toad because I resisted the lure.

I did manage to do some damage at Forever 21 yesterday though (no age comments from the peanut gallery…I am NOT too old to shop there, so suck it.) New jeans and a gorgeous one shoulder assymetrical sweater that I will wear with my brown pencil skirt at my signing on Sunday. I’m gonna have to wear a Dangerous Curves Ahead warning sign. Eat your heart out Christina Hendricks! (haha! Ok, maybe not quite…but a girl can dream, right?)

Oh and btw, I’ve now decided that when they make a movie about my life, Christina Hendricks will be replacing Jennifer Coolidge (aka Stifler’s Mom) in the starring role. Because DAMN that it is one curvy, hot red head. It’s my dream! Let me live it!

I’ve got a big weekend planned with fun, friends, and football. If you’re lucky, I’ll post pics on Monday. 🙂

Y’all have a great weekend and Woo Pig Sooie! The Razorbackses is up in here…

I had a great weekend but I’m not ready for today. At all. I even went to bed last night before the Denver/Steelers game was over. I had hoped to see Tim Tebow cry again, but even that hope couldn’t keep my poor, tired eyes open.

Oh, I did have 80s Bunko on Friday night. Check out the picgasm of Awesome:

Do you recognize Jenn’s “character” from a very popular 80s TV Show? I’ll give you a hint: You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and then you have the Facts of Life…

I had to do the ever so popular close up with the hand to the face pic. My bangs were so crunchy, Cap’n Crunch asked to borrow my technique for his next cereal. I was also wearing a blue jean skirt and leopard print leggings with a belt around my awesome Spuds MacKenzie shirt. And Yes. That is my originial Spuds MacKenzie shirt…

Hope y’all had a good one! Maybe I’ll be more myself tomorrow…

the sun! it blinds us from the foozball!

Tuesday was Rader’s football jamboree. 4 teams got 10 offensive plays or played until they scored (whichever came first). Rader’s team was 4th on the field and played Defense first…it seemed like forever before the Offense took the field because of this:

Yes, we were staring straight into the giant ball of fire as it blazed us with 100 degree temperatures. So not only were we sweating like sinners in church, we were blinded. Which made watching the actual games rather difficult. I did take some pics, but you’ll see…you can’t see anything.

Ah well, I suppose it’s the effort that counts, right?

It’s so weird seeing my kid in full gear, sauntering along like a man-child. Like he was born to wear that uniform and those pads. It’s awesome…but so, so, so weird.

His poor Nonnie is beside herself. She said she’s tortured herself by going to the soccer games (she doesn’t get that sport at all) but did it for her grandkids. However, she draws the line at Foozball. I’m pretty sure she thinks foozball is, indeed, the debil. She just wishes with all her heart that one of the grandkids will play basketball. I suppose Rader could play…though he shoots freethrows like Shaq. (it ain’t pretty)

Foozball is (not) the DEBIL

First of all, WATERBOY is one of the bestest movies ever. If you disagree, then why do you even read my blog because it’s obvious you don’t get “me.” LOL

Rader has a football jamboree tonight. They are playing two different teams, 10 plays each game. It’s not a ‘real’ game per se, but it will be good practice. I’m stoked. Last year my Tuesday nights were filled with trivia and Touchdown Sally’s. This year, they’ll be filled with football.

His position has changed some since my last post. It seems that he is well suited to play left offensive tackle and he’ll be the back up center. He’s stoked because he’s starting offense. I’m stoked because he’s playing football. LOL Unlike Bobby Boucher’s momma, I don’t think Foosball is the Debil!

oh SNAP!

Rader was told this week he will be the Center on the football team. (see the purple C? that’s my boy) He’s the dude who snaps the ball to the quarterback then does everything to stop the defense from getting through to the QB. As Ozzie Newsome says (Baltimore Ravens GM) “You need to have somebody who can neutralize that nose tackle. If you don’t, everything can get screwed up. Your running game won’t be effective and you’ll also have somebody in your quarterback’s face on every play.”

So instead of the Bend and Snap…my son will be doing the Snap and Block. I think it works, don’t you?

The coach is also talking to him about being on the Defensive Line as well. He’s pretty stoked about all this tackling stuff. I asked him why he didn’t wanna play a receiver and his answer was something like this: “Mom, I can snap the ball better than anyone on the team. I can block. But I can’t catch the ball to save my life.”

Which reminded me of a scene from one of my favorite movies of all time: The Replacements

NOT my finest moment

Football. I can’t wait. Especially since my 12 year old will be playing this year. Yeah, I’m pretty stoked about it.

Last night, said 12 year old came home with his new mouth guard that I had to boil. So I did. And promptly forgot about it….

Um, yeah. Mother of the year. I got that blue ribbon in the bag.

In other news, I’m blogging again over at FCR because, well, the fluffy is taking over again. No more fat ass. I mean, I’ll always have a Big Butt (So What) but I don’t have to be so soft and fluffy…
