shenanigans and pie

I will be hanging with my #2 kid (birth order, not preference) and my #1 Fella (definitely preference) at the Neon Trees concert tonight. Can’t wait. I predict shenanigans!

Check this out! They did a cover of Justin Bieber’s BABY and I actually LOVE this song now!

Tomorrow is the Hog game against Mississippi State and the night my friends do our Thanksgiving dinner. I’m bringing pies.

Because I make good pies.

Last week I made a chocolate pecan pie for El Jefe’s birthday and that seemed to be a big hit with my #1 fella, so I think I may do it all over again! Along with apple and punkin.

I love pie.

And here’s a little piece of Melf trivia: I was born on March 14 or 3/14…or 3.14 the number for pi.

I was born on Pi day! of course I love Pie!

hello Monday!

A busy weekend was had by all!

Friday night: Dinner and movies with Rader and the pug. We watched the Russell Crow Robin Hood (yummy) and Cop Out (hysterical! also rated R for language, so you probably shouldn’t be the kinda mommy I am and let your 12 year old watch it. LOL) Ian spent the night with a friend so he had his own fun, sans family.

Saturday: endless yard work with both kids. My parents have 6 acres total and we spent 4.5 hours or so with the fall cleaning. Picking up limbs and sticks and blowing leaves and making the burn pile down by the pond GINORMOUS. There’s gonna be a burning soon. You know I love a good burnin!
Saturday night we went to Laura and Mac’s house and watched the Razorback game. Well, Rader watched with us as Ian sat downstairs on the computer telling everyone how “Bored” he was on Facebook or he sat in my car talking on the phone. I love 16 year olds. Don’t you?

Yesterday we shopped, had lunch and then Ian had his first driving lesson. He did really well, too! Hopefully we’ll get this thing down and he’ll be driving and licensed by his 17th birthday in March. I blogged a little about it over at Fictionistas today.

This is gonna be a good week. Tonight I’m attending a local book club who read my book last month. Friday afternoon, I’m headed to Augusta, AR to speak to a book club at the school. And then I’ll be spending a long weekend in Oxford.

Is it Friday yet? 🙂

daytime to concert…

Okay, having a day job in an office and working until 5:00 can sometimes put a cramp on your evening style. Because let’s face it, you don’t wanna wear your business casual slacks and top with you hair in a bun to an Alice Cooper/Rob Zombie show. It just wouldn’t be right.

Okay, you might want to, but, I wouldn’t want to…

So that left me with a dilemma this morning. How do I wear my inner Rock Chick on the outside without scaring the folks at my office?

We start off with Black. That’s easy enough. Black is the universal Rock Chick color and it’s also appropriate for the workplace.

But I can’t do my classic black stuff, because it’s just too classy. And then I’ll be the naughty librarian at the concert. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. I suppose I could make it work… you know, with some red thigh highs and platforms…oh wait, wrong blog. Hahaha

So I chose a simple black dress that will go off the shoulder after work and is a scoop neck during business house. I belted it and have on my boots.

It’s totally Business Rocker Chic

Now onto the hair. What does a Rocker Chick do? Pony tail? Straighten it? Leave it be?

She curls it…that’s what she does.
Daytime to Rocker Chick ahoy!

I’ll just add a little glitter after work and I think I’m good to go!

Go for it, Roy!

My friend Kitteh (known to the rest of the world as Kristen Painter) has a new release today! It’s a Steampunk Novella e-book out with Samhain. Don’t forget to buy a copy!

The last thing she planned to steal was his heart.

The Company. Military institution, protector of Praeton and the nation of Grand Isle. Dirty rotten thief.

When Pandora Bramble steps aboard the Company’s premiere airship Daedalus it’s not for the exclusive VIP tour. It’s to secure proof that the Company stole the regulator valve her father designed—even if it means tearing the engine apart. Foiled by the unexpected appearance of a handsome crew member, she despairs of ever getting another chance—until he kisses her.

Captain Theolonius Hatch, sentenced to engine room duty for refusing to take part in the Company’s fleet week activities, never dreamed a woman like Pandora existed. Her brains match her beauty, a combination that adds up to more trouble than he ever expected.
As Pandora allows Theolonius to sweep her into a whirlwind courtship, her wildest dreams come true. As do her greatest fears, leaving her to decide what matters most. Loyalty…or love.

The clock is ticking.

Warning: This book contains airships, mechanical owls, women who are good with tools, men in and out of uniform, steam generated by engines and people, and some hot carriage scenes.

BTW: when you hear me say “Go for it, Roy!” it’s from this movie right here:

monday morning blues

Ruby and I were both very sad leaving Oxford in the wee hours this morning. See how forlorn she is? That’s because she left behind all the chewies that she had gathered up around the house since Thursday. The other dogs only THOUGHT those chewies belonged to them. Ruby let them know that without a doubt, they were only holding the chews for her.

The drive home was an easy one (no traffic and great coffee helped with that) I much prefer driving early than late.

Oxford was great this weekend. Friday night El Jefe grilled up some yummy portabella mushrooms with edamame which went really well with my Zolo Malbec. (I can’t find it in Arkansas, so I try to buy a bottle when I go to Oxford. I don’t think it’s sold west of the Mississippi or something!)

The view at night was lovely. The pool is way too cold to swim in now, but it sure is a fabulous backdrop for a nightcap.

Saturday we went to The Burgundy Room and watched both the Razorbacks beat the Aggies and the South Carolina Gamecocks beat Alabama! (sorry Marley, but that made me very happy) Then Saturday night more grill time with a yummy pork tenderloin with chilis and my very yummy mashed taters.

Oh! And while we were on the balcony of the Burgundy Room, we got to see a chick get arrested! (apparently she was beating on her boyfriend a block or so away. The boyfriend was also arrested.) Isn’t public intoxication awesome?

Sunday: Movies, football, beer, naps. Ahhhhhhhhh. Aren’t Sundays the best?

I hope your weekend was as relaxing and wonderful as mine was! Do anything fun or special?

I heart humpday!

The best part of the week is to come! YAY! Tomorrow is GNO…and we haven’t had one in a couple of weeks. *GASP*

Last night, Rader played da Foozball and he rocked it. Sacked the QB and had a fantastic punt! I tried to video the punt (I DID video the punt) BUT the sun worked against me. So all we could see was THE SUN! IT BLINDS!! and little blips doing blippy things on the field.

I did get a pic of me and my kid after it was all over…

Rader is 1.5 inches taller than me, but yesterday I was wearing 3 inch heeled boots and he didn’t like that I was taller, so he stood on his tiptoes. The pic is technically accurate…but now you know why. LOL

If you’re looking for me Friday night…you can find me watching this dude live:

I love Fridays the most!

football, friends, food and fabulousness

The only reason this wasn’t a perfect weekend is because the Razorbacks lost a hard-fought game. A game they pretty much owned until the last quarter. It was exciting all the way down til the last few minutes. I was hoarse by the end of it all.

This was the moment we pulled ahead by ten and I thought we were gonna win the game. I’m not quite sure how the #10 team (us) played the #1 team so well only to drop 5 points in the polls. WTH?

After the game, we went to a local restaurant and sat on the deck to enjoy the sudden fall-like weather. I know it’s actually fall…but usually we don’t get these cool temps until well into October. El Jefe and I ordered calamari, and to my surprise, there were itty-bitty fried squids on the plate; not just calamari rings…

Ok, the little whole squid thing freaked me out a wee bit. Creepy! And of course, I think there is a GIANT MOMMA SQUID exacting her revenge on every fisherman in the sea because her tee-tiny baby squid was fried whole.

This is gonna be a busy week. Rader has football tomorrow night, Ian is off for fall break where he is working like a junkyard dog for his Nonnie, Ian will also be taking baby steps toward learning to drive this week…(shhhh, don’t tell him) and then Friday night will be the Michael Franti and Spearhead concert! I’m doing Bark for Life walk Saturday morning with Ruby and then Rader has soccer Saturday afternoon.

In between all that, I’m thinking we may take a trip to a corn maze…because even though they freak me out a whole lot, I still think it would be kinda fun. 🙂

What’s going on with y’all this week? Anything fun?

a picture is worth a thousand contacts

So, I signed books in Oxford this weekend and had the best time ever. And I would LOVE to show you how much fun I had by posting all the pics I took (all 3 of them) but…

I lost them during an epic iPhone update.

And for a brief panicky moment, I also lost all my contacts. Yes, all of them. But they came back, as did all of my photos up to 80s Bunko. But I’ll gladly lose a few photos to keep all my contacts…

So you’ll just have to take my word for it. I looked cute, I signed books, I had fun, and the Razorbacks won. (yeah, that last one had nothing to do with the camera…but you know me and my piggies)

Since I lost my pics from the weekend, I’ll post 2 pics from my drive home. You’ll notice I really need to wash my windshield…

The sun setting over the Mississippi River. It was spectacular. This pic doesn’t even remotely do it justice.

We’re baaaaack!

Hope y’all had a great weekend!
