Get well soon, my friend…
My friend Rhonda is in the hospital recovering from a car wreck and surgery. Being the good friend that I am, I wanted to send her healing lights and positive energy.
I’m pretty positive this dude’s energy would heal the sick, the blind, and maybe even a leper or two.
Get well, Rhonda B. See you soon. xx
can’t find me?
tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow…
Because it’s OPENING DAY AT OAKLAWN!
Me and my girls are gonna go see the ponies run, like we do every year on opening day. Pictures to follow next week. I can’t wait!
if you wann read about previous trips, and see pics of me with Hot Springs’ very own version of Huggy Bear, click the “oaklawn” label at the bottom of this post and enjoy!
10 things I learned at the Liberty Bowl
So the Arkansas Razorbacks played in the Liberty Bowl this weekend and I was one of the 62,000 fools who attended.
It was farking cold.
Here are a list of things I learned from our trip this weekend:
- Bud Light with Lime tastes like Kool-Aid.
- If you drink a few Bud Light with Limes while traveling to Memphis, you will have to stop to pee 5 times.
- There are NOT ENOUGH LAYERS IN THE WORLD to keep you warm when the wind chill is -100.
- You will stop partaking in adult beverages after you use the port-o-potty.
- If you’re walking to the port-o-potties and every person along the way warns you away from potty #3–you listen.
- It’s okay to leave the game early.
- Sometimes GPS systems are stupid.
- Nothing brings white boys to the dance floor faster than Vanilla Ice.
- Guys today think that “dancing” is the same as “leg humping.”
- McDonald’s for breakfast tastes really, really, really good after freezing at a football game and being leg humped on Beale Street.
We had a great time. The Hogs won (finally) and it only took me two days to thaw out. Now we have snow here in little Rock…school didn’t start back today. But I still have to go to work. How uncool is that?
brrrrr
I’ll be at the Liberty Bowl today and taking Memphis hostage tonight. It’s gonna be c-c-c-c-c-c-c-cold! The high is only 34 degrees, so Ima gonna be bundling up with lotsa layers and a blanket. I may be a fool for sitting outside watching foozball in dis here weather, but I ain’t stupid.
GO HOGS!
Woo Pig Sooie!
and one last time: Shirley Q Liquor’s Razorback Fight Song
words. I haz them.
Me and my friend, Kitteh (aka Kristen Painter) apparently had the same idea this week. We’re both posting Catmus Pictures…and so far, we’ve managed not to copy each other! Pop over and see what LOLZ she’s been posting.
So, last night was my signing and visit at the Bryant Library. I grew up in Bryant, and even though the town of Twelve BILLION Thousand no longer resembles the town of 2800 that I knew, it is still one of the warmest places on earth.
I felt honored and humbled by the show of support. It was amazing.
The room was standing room only. (okay, it was a smallish room, but still SRO sounds so AWESOME, right?) and we sold out of books (YAY!) and then people sat down to hear me talk.
Me. Talk.
As if that’s ever a problem.
Well, it is a bit different to talk in front of a group. Thankfully I knew most of them, so that helped. And so I rambled on about why I started writing (I was bored), why I continued writing after we moved to Oxford (I was really bored), how I found an agent (luck!), how I decided to write about a teenage vampire (more luck!) and how I got published (A BUCKET LOAD OF LUCK). So my talk went something like this:
One day I was bored and started writing. I moved to Mississippi and kept on writing. I got lucky and signed with an agent who totally gets me and a few years later I got even luckier and sold a book. The End.
Don’t you wish you had been there to hear all that in person?
I had a fabulous time and hope they’ll invite me back again someday! I’ll have pics for you soon, just didn’t get them downloaded last night.
I’d like to give a big shout out to awesome librarian Jill Martin who made these signings happen. And a huge, huge thank you to all my friends who showed up on a rainy Tuesday evening to shower me with love.
Y’all are all smothered in awesome-sauce!
Mel-O-Funny; Mel-O-Music; MEL-O-FRIDAY!
The other band that will be there is Daughtry! I am so stoked about seeing them live. Actually, the year Chris Daughtry didn’t win American Idol is the year I stopped watching that show. Here’s the video for LIFE AFTER YOU
Now, if I could just figure out what I’m going to wear. I know I’ll be cute…just how cute?
Big plans this weekend? Last minute shopping, baking, partying?
500 miles…fabulous Friday!
Bryant Hornet Reading Club and seeing Mr. Cole again.
Watching TV with my 15 year old’s head on my shoulder. No better feeling in the world.
My 11 year old cracking himself up by telling me I needed to add The Proclaimers: I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) song to my iPod for when I walk. Because you know the verse is: But I would walk 500 miles; And I would walk 500 more
The very yummy dream I had last night. Oh wait, did I mention that already? Well it deserves a 2nd mention because damn it was good.
Amanda Brice, my friend and co-blogger over at Fictionistas, had her beautiful baby girl on Wednesday. Even
though Amber arrived a little earlier than scheduled, both mom and baby are doing well.
Girls Night Out and Carlos’s yummy flaming coffee drink that he made for us! And our new friends that we met. Too fun…
And finally, today’s note from the Universe was just filled with sparkly goodness:
Did you know, Melissa, that every time you cry there, harps go quiet here, angels stop dancing, and the stars look down in stunned silence?
Which is why we often say, “If Melissa ain’t happy, ain’t no one happy.”
You are loved,
The Universe
And did you know, Melissa, that every time you smile there, it’s like sunshine here?
Have you had a great week? Please say yes…if not, you can borrow some of my sparkle. I have tons to share.
a night to remember
It’s not often that I’m able to go out and play with my friend ALL-CAPS KRISTAL but when I do, it’s always a night to remember.
And it also takes me about 2 weeks to recover. I may not have one foot in the grave, but I’m also not a spring chicken anymore. LOL
I knew the night was going to be a good one when I tried on a pair of jeans in a smaller size and they fit. I did it more as a way to gauge how much I needed to lose before I could wear them. I had no idea they would actually fit! So I bought them. And I will probably never take them off. That’s the only way to ensure I won’t gain any weight. LOL
So ALL-CAPS KRISTAL and my friend Kim picked me up and we headed to see The Gettys play. (awesome band! if you ever get a chance to catch their show, I highly recommend it) I spent much of the time admiring the lead singer’s ass, and before I knew it, ALL-CAPS KRISTAL had him standing next to me asking him if I could touch his booty. (Jaeger may or may not have been used as a bargaining chip) The girl has no fear.
Then we played with a little bachelor party. All the boys were 21 or so and we spent a lot of time trying to tell them it was okay not to get married so young. And we offered them other life advice which is not really something that needs to be written down here. ALL-CAPS KRISTAL kept introducing herself as “the famous local author Melissa Francis. Buy my book, BITE ME!”
The rest of the night will remain in the vault, but I will give you a few hints. Gay bar, inappropriate conversations, an offer that was hard to refuse, Midtown, IHOP, 4 A.M. (oh, and there was possibly some public indecency near the train station, but I will not confirm or deny the incident)
Yesterday I slept. And ate. And watched movies and football (HOLY COW! DID YOU SEE THE COLTS GAME!?) Tonight, I’m headed to the Rivermarket for Monday night football and then the rest of the week, I’m planning to chill. Gotta recharge my batteries for the next time ACK (heh) and Kim decide to take me out.
