what makes a great weekend…

Me and the #1 child (in birth order not preference) hanging all weekend, watching movies, football, and then going to see a friend play an acoustic show at a local dive where we also ate the best burger known to man. It’s true. Best. Burger. Ever.

Movies we watched:
The Day the Earth Stood Still: I’m a Keanu fan but I didn’t really think I would like this movie. I was pleasantly surprised.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation: It is so good to know that my 15 year old son truly appreciates the Griswalds as much as his momma does. We laughed so hard and spent the day quoting the movie.

Sixteen Candles: We love us some Farmer Ted. And Long Duck Dong. AUTOMOBIIIIIILE?

Obsessed: I love me some crazy bitches.

The Ugly Truth: There was a lot of funny to this movie and we laughed out loud quite often…BUT…can I just say the ending scene was the biggest, most ridiculous joke on the face of this earth? Seriously. Not even necessary. It irritated me so much that it almost ruined the rest of the movie for me. Good thing I have a very active imagination and had no problem rewriting the ending in my head…which was much more satisfying. And funny.

#1 child (in birth order not preference) and I also decorated. He put the tree together and helped me string lights outside. He also cleaned his bathroom for me like a good boy. And he did his homework. Maybe this week he can be my #1 child in preference, too.

I also baked some peppermint mocha brownies, hoping they would light up some holiday spirit in my cold, black heart. They were so tasty and smelled so good, I did feel a momentary flicker…

Oh, and the Florida Gators lost. Which means Karma has a sense of humor.

Did you have fun this weekend? Do tell…

oops

What happened to this daily blogging thing? I guess I thought since I blogged Saturday (which I rarely do) that I didn’t have to blog Monday.

Anyway, it’s been a busy few days filled with friends, writing, football…lots of football, food, lounging in bed, and other stuff.

Oh, have you heard the new Michael Bublé CD? Is verra nice.

How was your extended holiday weekend? Hope y’all are as content as I am.

Raise your hand if you did NOT see New Moon this weekend?

I admit it. I’m one of the 3 people on earth who did not go to see NEW MOON this weekend. Yes, I realize Taylor Lautner is hot…but seriously, unless they’ve completely rewritten the movie to make it THE NO WHINY VERSION OF NEW MOON, I have no intention of seeing it. None. That book drove me stark-raving mad. Kinda like the whiny Harry Potter book. Funny thing is…the whiny Harry Potter book made a great movie…because they made Harry not so damn whiny.

And even though I firmly stand on Team Sparkle, I will freely admit if the Jacob character would just STFU for a few minutes and quit mooning over whiny Bella, I could totally switch to Team Wolfenstein because WHOA AND DAMN that boy his hot.

Even though I didn’t go see NEW MOONING OVER BELLA MOON, I did still go to the movies. I saw THE BLIND SIDE which was an amazing film and honestly, if the whole cast doesn’t walk away with an Oscar, then life is totally unfair. Go see this movie. It was absolutely fantastic.

Now for some TWILIGHT fun:

Totally ripped this off SciFiGuy and I’m not ashamed to admit it. If you’re reading this on Facebook, go to my website to view the video. Worth it.

How Twilight should have ended:

a night to remember

It’s not often that I’m able to go out and play with my friend ALL-CAPS KRISTAL but when I do, it’s always a night to remember.

And it also takes me about 2 weeks to recover. I may not have one foot in the grave, but I’m also not a spring chicken anymore. LOL

I knew the night was going to be a good one when I tried on a pair of jeans in a smaller size and they fit. I did it more as a way to gauge how much I needed to lose before I could wear them. I had no idea they would actually fit! So I bought them. And I will probably never take them off. That’s the only way to ensure I won’t gain any weight. LOL

So ALL-CAPS KRISTAL and my friend Kim picked me up and we headed to see The Gettys play. (awesome band! if you ever get a chance to catch their show, I highly recommend it) I spent much of the time admiring the lead singer’s ass, and before I knew it, ALL-CAPS KRISTAL had him standing next to me asking him if I could touch his booty. (Jaeger may or may not have been used as a bargaining chip) The girl has no fear.

Then we played with a little bachelor party. All the boys were 21 or so and we spent a lot of time trying to tell them it was okay not to get married so young. And we offered them other life advice which is not really something that needs to be written down here. ALL-CAPS KRISTAL kept introducing herself as “the famous local author Melissa Francis. Buy my book, BITE ME!”

The rest of the night will remain in the vault, but I will give you a few hints. Gay bar, inappropriate conversations, an offer that was hard to refuse, Midtown, IHOP, 4 A.M. (oh, and there was possibly some public indecency near the train station, but I will not confirm or deny the incident)

Yesterday I slept. And ate. And watched movies and football (HOLY COW! DID YOU SEE THE COLTS GAME!?) Tonight, I’m headed to the Rivermarket for Monday night football and then the rest of the week, I’m planning to chill. Gotta recharge my batteries for the next time ACK (heh) and Kim decide to take me out.

conversations with an 11 year old in love

Me: How’s your girlfriend.

Himself: Sexy as ever.

Me: You did NOT just say that.

Himself: No matter what she wears, she makes it work.

Me: *speechless*

Y’all have a safe and happy Halloween! And if you’re in Arkansas, feel free to jump in your boat and paddle on over to my place. I live on a hill so I’m pretty dry.

and then she rested

What a busy weekend! Holy Spamoli!

Okay, first was Friday night’s party…which was a huge success and totally fun! I didn’t want the night to end however, responsiblity called and reminded me that I had a very busy day ahead of me on Saturday. So even though I played at being a Naughty School Girl–I am still a good girl at heart and I went home. (by myself, heh)

Saturday started off watching the Razorback game with my pal (and Alabama fan) Marley Gibson. Then the fabulous Linda Gerber joined us. After that farce of a game (can NOT even talk about it) we drove over to North Little Rock to meet Stacey Jay and her cutie-patootie hubby and Rosemary Clement-Moore for some appetizers.

Then we had the book signing at Books-A-Million. It went pretty well considering we were competing with the Miley-freaking-Cyrus concert. Lots of great costumes, fun trivia questions, and tasty treats. Met Chloe Neill for the first time. Totally awesome chick.

While there, I found out that BITE ME! has been chosen for the Books-A-Million Twilight Book Club! Look! Not only do I get great placement, but I get a sticker, too!

Sunday, Marley and Me (hehehee) went out for a very lovely and inexpensive brunch before I took her to the airport. We had a great time and was so good to see her again.

Now it’s back to the normalcy of laundry, house cleaning, cooking, and homework. Hmmm. I like the busy weekends better.

Hope y’all had a good one. Anything you wanna share?

Hi, I’m Cliché. It’s nice to meet you…

Costumes, yummy food, friends, football, and a book signing.

If you threw in a beach and maybe a game of darts, this would be the most perfect weekend ever.

Tonight I have a costume party to go to. I was originally gonna be She-Hulk, but plans have changed…Yes, we’re having a ‘super hero’ themed party…and yes, She-Hulk (or ‘Slutty She-Hulk’ as I was planning to be) would’ve been a lot of fun…but I may not want to have green hair all night. So I’ve revamped.

Now I’m going as Cliché, The Naughty School Girl. But wait! you say. I thought this was a super hero party? you say.

Ah yes. It is. I’m the super hero of fantasies. Heh. And since I seem to pull off the Naughty Librarian look on a dialy basis, I decided to mix it up a little.

Yes, I’ll probably post pictures.

Probably.

I’m also making Artichoke-Me dip for my appetizer contribution. It’s a very simple and yummy recipe and I really can’t wait to pull it out of the oven so I can have a bite. (or 12)

Tomorrow is the Razorback game. They play Ole Miss (which is where our former coach defected to a couple of years ago. *boo hiss*) I feel certain we’re gonna tap the keg of whoop-ass on them. If we don’t, I’m also sure my Rebel pals will let me hear all about it. Wish I was going to be there…but…

I have a book signing tomorrow! Remember? There are 6 awesome authors gathering at the Books-a-million in NLR, AR from 5-8 pm Saturday night! You won’t wanna miss it…I’m thinking with that much talent all in one place, there might be a shift in the time-space continuum.

Y’all have a great weekend. I’ll see you Monday!

weekend recap

Nashville was fantastic! I haven’t downloaded my pics yet, but I will this week. It was so great to visit with Grant and his family and meet his girlfriend (who I liked tremendously). Despite my raging tiredness, I had a great time.

We had dinner at a steakhouse called The Stockyard. It was fantastic, but don’t go there unless you’re willing to spend a minimum of $50/person. Seriously.

Nashville is about a 4.5 hour drive from Little Rock (depending on traffic) but when you drive to and from in 24 hours, it can be a little grueling, so I spent Sunday trying to recover. I did that by hanging out with YA Author Stacey Jay and her little munchkins Sunday morning, then watching soccer in the rain Sunday afternoon. I know all my British friends think that’s how football soccer is supposed to be played, but trust me, I’m not that girl. Not as a spectator anyway. Now when I was actually playing sports, I loved playing in the rain. But it’s not fun as a fan.

Even though this wasn’t a holiday weekend, it felt like it. But today I’m well rested and ready to take on the world.

Anything good, bad, or ugly happen to you this weekend? Wanna share?

PS: GOSSIP GIRL RETURNS TONIGHT! YIPPEEE.

the weekend in review

Thursday: Received my final round of edits from awesome editor and in it, she included a lovely surprise that totally made my day. Read about it here at Ficitonistas. There’s even a picture. (Sorry to disappoint, it’s not porn.) Then I went out with my girlfriends and we celebrated

Friday: Do I remember Friday? Let me think. Oh yes. I got my hair did. The lovely Katie at Fringe Benefits rocked the color and cut as always. But then we had a bit of a snafu and she rallied the troops like the super hero that she is. So here’s what went down. We had my head covered in the lovely coppery red (WHAT? YOU THOUGHT IT WAS NATURAL? see how good she is?) I was rocking the plastic shower cap and texting some friends as I waited. (How did I ever survive getting my hair done without my crackberry?) It was time to rinse when suddenly, there was NO WATER IN THE SALON.

Yes, a water main had busted and I was going to have purple hair. Or no hair. it was not going to be pretty. Katie sprung into action and called some nearby salons but they, too, were affected by the water outage. I joked and said “Maybe we should use the bottled water. Or I could just run home and rinse.”

Next thing I know, one of the salon studs was holding a 5 gallon jug of water over my head as Katie rinsed and washed. Yes, I was rinsed by a $60 bottle of water. And my hair never felt softer.

Also, the color rocks; as does Katie.

After the hairmergency, I had a pretty low key day that ended with dinner with a girlfriend. Or so I thought it ended. It was 11 pm. I was burrowing into the bed when my cell phone rang. I figured it was a wrong number because really, nobody ever calls me that late.

But no. It was my friends K and K. I now call them the Devil’s Handmaidens. Here is the conversation that follows:

The Handmaidens: We’re going to Tunica and you’re coming with us.
Me: Nope. Can’t.
Handmaidens: Yes you can.
Me: Srsly, I can’t. I might could do a nightcap somewhere but no to Tunica.
Handmaidens: Fine, we’re coming to get you. We just wanna go somewhere.

Okay, so they came to get me. And we went out for a drink. And then we, um, took a detour that is a really funny story but one that cannot be told on this blog. Trust me when I say, it was VERY educational. And fun. And funny. Maybe I’ll tell you over a beer sometime.

Then we came back to my house where the Handmaidens stayed until 4 a.m. Not only that, but Handmaiden #1 went out to her car and brought in a box of Corn Pops. Who carries Corn Pops in their car? Just in case? So we snacked on Corn Pops and gossiped until I finally said, “Y’all are either spending the night or going home because this bitch is going to bed.”

I’m too old for late nights like that. (I say this every time I have a late night like that. My friends have way too much energy for me.)

Saturday I chilled in the morning watching Amanda Bynes movies (totally love her) and then went to Birdrunner’s house for the 4th celebration. The kids swam and I hung out with Stinkydog and Hopper and the rest of the fam but I was still so tired from my night out with the Handmaidens that I had to leave before fireworks. I’m not a big firework girl anyway. The only fireworks that really did anything for me was actually this past spring in Daytona when I could watch them from my balcony. That was kinda awesome.

Sunday: I wrestled with dog fur all day until I finally gave up. Yup, that’s about it. Dog fur 1; Mel 0

How was your holiday? Anything fun or exciting happen?
