it’s been a while…

Well, 2 years or so to be exact. Have you missed me?

Whoa. What the fuck is going on in this world? Like, Trump got elected in 2016 and our world just kinda started going to shit, didn’t it? Like him or not, there’s no denying the division in America has grown. And gotten louder. Ugh I’m so tired of the noise. The rhetoric. And the downright lies.

A lot has happened in my life these past few years. I’ll start with the highlights.

My youngest kid started and graduated from college. He was supposed to start an international job, but since our esteemed “leader” fucked up our pandemic response (or lack thereof) so he is currently at home, playing video games and reading. He’s being very cautious and isolating so that if and when the job is available again, he can just pack his bags, grab his passport, and fly away.

My oldest kid bought a house, then the pandemic hit and his hours were severely cut and his roommate lost his job…so the Manpanion and I have been doing our best to help him make ends meet. We’re happy to do it because we can, but it’s tough sometimes.

My sweet girl Ruby died this past May. RIP you old crank. I miss you even though you loved to shit on my shoes. We did a final photo shoot for her the week prior to her endgame. Please go forth and see the beautiful photos my dear friend Jeff Fuller-Freeman did for us. Also, call Jeff and hire him for every event you may have in the future. Here’s one of my favorites

The Manpanion and I recently bought a house that we are renovating.

Oh, and we finally voted out the Dictator in Chief, have a woman VP-elect, and finally we have a team of scientists in place to actually start fighting the pandemic.

I’d also like to mention that four years ago, I accidentally predicted the Trump Virus.

The Manpanion called me a witch all weekend. Strangely, I’m ok with that.

But seriously, what the fuck is up with the craziness? People yelling that wearing masks during a pandemic is infringing on their freedoms, (funny, “my body, my choice” applies to face coverings, but not to women seeking fucking medical care) never mind everyone else’s intrinsic right to remain free of your aerosol spatter* during a viral pandemic. (*We’re going to say those are official scientific descriptors even though we know they are not). Governors requiring in person school (I’m looking at you ASA) meanwhile our educators are overworked, underpaid, and exhausted. Not to mention dying…because, you know, PANDEMIC. People crying about “it’s only 1% death rate!” Which is actually 2.5% currently in the US, but whatever. These people are fine with 2.5/100 deaths. Let’s just start grouping Americans together by 100, and then randomly pick off 2 or 3 of them at a time. Maybe we can line them up on 5th Avenue and let Trump shoot them himself. He wouldn’t lose any voters and hey, the results would be the same. Only maybe less painful, because they wouldn’t die by drowning in their own fluids.

I’m a little mad about it, can you tell?

Since when did FOLLOWING SCIENCE and DATA become political? (can we stop saying “believe in science” please?) You follow the science. You don’t have faith in it.

To say I was relieved with a Biden/Harris win is an understatement. I can now breathe easier for my black and brown friends. No, systemic racism isn’t over by any stretch. 70M Americans still voted for a racist. We have a lot of work to do. But at least we have elected 2 people that acknowledge there’s a real problem and has indicated they plan to address it. My queer family and friends are a little safer now. Sure, McConnell pushed through the Handmaid’s Tale lady for the Supreme Court instead of pushing through a stimulus plan to help Americans during a PANDEMIC but you know what? We can’t have everything, I guess. I feel like with Biden/Harris in office, at least we won’t be force into wearing the red capes any time soon. Gilead has been put off for 4 more years. I do hope my queer friends’ marriages and healthcare are still safe. I feel strongly Biden won’t allow that to change if he can help it.

Thank you for listening to me. I just needed to get it all off my chest. I want our country to reunite, to fight racism, to fight fascism (aren’t we all supposed to be ANTIFA?) to help those who need help, to make sure everyone has healthcare and food. That is what would make America great. Not whatever fucked up timeline we actually collided with. Once the pandemic is past, can we put the scientists to work on finding exactly where our real timeline and this awful one crashed into each other? And maybe fix it?

Asking for a Nation.

xoxo,
Mel

Forward. HO!

Yes, the election is over. Yes. I’m pleased with the results…but the reality is, if things had gone the other way, I’d be all right, too. (Unless I wanted to make a very important decision about my body…)

Anyhoo… Yay that the Rape Idiots didn’t get reelected. Good Grief. Yay for women who soundly told our country that we deserve the same pay and full control over our own bodies.

The only 1950s we get to live in, is in our pin up girl fantasies! And that’s the way it ought to be. (I’ll be right back, I need to go make you a sammich.)

And yay for President Barack Obama and his family. Go forth and continue to rebuild from the mess you were handed.

I’ve been extremely disappointed in my Facebook newsfeed lately. I welcome dissenting opinions, but I do not tolerate racism, hate or rhetoric. I woke this morning to see a couple of my ‘friends’ posting “Welcome to Muslim America’  and “Well of course he got voted in, everyone loves getting freebies.”

Really? Come on. Educate yourself. Don’t spread hate and rhetoric and untruths. Damn. So this is my status today.

If you truly believe that Obama is a Socialist, a Muslim, if you’re still looking for his birth certificate, or if you’re posting racist hate and rhetoric on your page, please just unfriend me now. This is a democracy. The people have spoken and they have spoken loudly. If I survived 8 years of Dubya (barely) then I promise, you will survive 8 years of Obama. These are not the darkest days. This is not the end of the world. I have been looking for signs of the apocalypse, and I’m pretty sure we’re safe. There’s no excuse to post hate. Respect the process and let love rule.

Seriously, we’ve all made mistakes, we all don’t like something about someone. We all disagree with different government policies, but to be hateful? To spread lies and encourage racism? Just not something I want to be around and certainly not something I want kids to see. So I’ve unfriended a few folks and I posted this and asked people to unfriend me. And I’m okay with it if you do. You have the right to your beliefs, but I’d appreciate it if you’d just keep them off my newsfeed because I don’t really want to hang out with someone who won’t bother to educate themselves with facts and who hates because of race, gender, or sexuality. Now. Go forth and love someone today.

speak now….

That’s right. Vote.

Use your voice.

Be heard.

And then when it’s all over, STFU and live with it because we all have a voice…and once that voice is spoken, we have 4 years….and yes, I’m even talking to myself.

Thankfully, I won’t have to follow my own advice…GO OBAMA! 🙂

Either way, Team America! Fuck yeah!

NSFW (duh)

Mayor Bloomberg, from his endorsement for President:

“When I step into the voting booth, I think about the world I want to leave my two daughters, and the values that are required to guide us there. The two parties’ nominees for president offer different visions of where they want to lead America.

One believes a woman’s right to choose should be protected for future generations; one does not. That difference, given the likelihood of Supreme Court vacancies, weighs heavily on my decision.

One recognizes marriage equality as consistent with America’s march of freedom; one does not. I want our president to be on the right side of history.

One sees climate change as an urgent problem that threatens our planet; one does not. I want our president to place scientific evidence and risk management above electoral politics.”

I’ll admit, whatever happens, I’m ready for the election to be over. I do believe that we’ll get 4 more years of Obama. But if we don’t, I’ll survive…just like I survived the Dubya Era. Man, Hillary…please tell me you’re gonna run for 2016? PLEASE!?!

In other news, we’re gonna be having a giant multi-family yard sale at the Compound tomorrow. It’s gonna be a long night and long day. Probably there will be Bailey’s in my coffee in the morning. If you stop by, you’ll get a special discount if you bring me a Bloody Mary!

my reasons

Okay, I have a lot (and I mean A LOT) of conservative friends. Many of them are socially liberal and fiscally conservative.

Yesterday, one of my dear friends from high school started to tease me on my Facebook Status that it was a sign that it was time for me to join the republican party.

Then another friend chimed in…and it was all in good fun and we had a great time teasing each other. Finally one of my friends asked me what was so scary about Mitt Romney. (which, I’ll admit, seems pretty obvious to me) and I asked him if he really wanted to know why I was voting for Obama over Romney. (btw, my next choice is Jill Stein…the Green Party Candidate…) I said that I would happily answer as long as they really wanted to know and as long as it didn’t turn into a battle of trying to change each others’ minds…because let’s face it, that rarely happens.

So I answered them…and I thought I’d share my answer with you….

Romney has forgotten what his true stance is on Women’s rights in regards to birth control, abortion and universal healthcare. Up until he ran for president, he was quite moderate and could have possibly been a choice I would consider. I can not consider him a viable candidate since he’s now only willing to serve his Borg Master as oppose to run on his own core beliefs. McCain did the same thing. Had McCain gotten the nom instead of Dubya, I would have voted for him because he was moderate…which is why he didn’t get nominated. Then when he ran against Obama, he just became the puppet to the Republican party (who was pandering to the Tea Party) and completely ignored everything he once believed in. That’s just not okay with me. It seems to me that we are dangerously close to taking a giant step back when it comes to Women’s rights. Romney won’t even say he would have signed the Lily Ledbetter act! I mean, seriously? He won’t overturn it, sure. But had he been president, it looks like he wouldn’t have signed it. Women seem to be a lesser entity…only good for making breakfast and making babies.

The idea of ‘smaller’ government that the party discusses is laughable! I mean, if they want less government, then why won’t they get out of my body? If they want less government, then why are they blaming Obama’s adminstration for not doing enough for the country. You can’t say you want less government then blame the government for not doing enough.

I am in favor of the DREAM act…which allows children brought illegally into the US to be exempted from deportation and granted work permits and to seek higher education. This can only help America. They can join our military and fight for our country and I think this is a humane and just thing to do for these kids who were brought here for a better life by parents who risked everything to give their kids something they couldn’t give them legally. Romney just wants to deport everyone. He opposes allowing them amnesty for college but hey, he’d let them fight and die for our country. He has no compassion.

Romney was all for stricter gun laws in 2004 when he signed a ban on assult weapons in Massachusettes. Funny how he’s changed his mind on that. Assault weapons should be regulated. I am for the right to bear arms…100%, but something has to be done about assault weapons.

Obama wants to change the requirements left over from that POS No Child Left Behind… It is a joke and has done nothing but hurt our educational system. Guess who supports it? Romney. He thinks teaching to test is awesome!

Obama is for civil rights for all humans. Health care, marriage rights, and benefits to same-sex couples. Romney isn’t…of course.

I have a real problem with Romney’s tax plan…the one he won’t tell us about. I have an issue with the trickle down theory that the party pushes, especially since that doesn’t work…we’ve seen that in the past and if he’s mirroring Dubya’s plan, that’s what got us where we are now! Also, he’s all about less regulation…well considering how that worked out when Dubya deregulated the banking industry, I’m thinking this is not the best of ideas. Especially since that deregulation cost me my house, my savings, and other things.

Most of all, I believe God should be left out of politics. Our country was formed for the purpose of religious freedom. The separation of Church and State is in place for a reason. All religions should be welcomed and celebrated in our nation, not just the Christian religion…and I can NOT in good conscience vote for any party that does not stand up and fight against the statement that “Rape is the will of God.” Sorry gang. Until they become more like the original republican party, they will never get my vote.

And end political soap box.

And there you have it. I’m always going to vote my social conscience over money. Everyone has their reasons for voting the way they do…and this is mine. No matter how you vote…just get out there and do it!

I love kids who take action

12 Year-Old Jackson Ripley wrote Mitt Romney a letter. I think our country is gonna be all right if he’s a good example of his generation…

Dear Governor Romney,
I’d like to say congratulations on winning the republican nomination. But, I wish you stayed in Massachusetts. You’re plan for America isn’t what we need, and would hurt us more than it would help.

First, repealing Obama care and other health plans he’s put in place have helped families across America, including mine. I live in a middle class family, and two years ago my little sister; Kennedy was denied insurance because of her pre-existing condition. This was a huge emotional stress and financial burden on my entire family. Under Obama Care, insurance companies can no longer deny Kennedy and kids like her, the coverage they need and deserve. Because of Obama care my little sister was able to have the several surgeries she needed that helped save her life. Once the President was elected he put Obama Care into action, just like he promised and made it so that you could get insurance with pre-existing conditions. This has made a direct impact on my family. My family is with out a doubt better off now, than we were four years ago!

It is to my understanding that you stated that you were going to repeal Obama Care, including the part I have mentioned, which will take away the insurance we have and need for my sister Kennedy. Why do you think she doesn’t deserve health care? Also, when you were interviewed on “Meet the Press”, you stated that you would NOT repeal this part of Obama Care, but then your campaign backpedalled and on the “Tonight show with Jay Leno”, you said that you WOULD repeal this.

Also, you’re domestic plans (birth control, gay rights etc.) are horrible! Women should get to manage their own health, and if you wonder why you’re not appealing to many women voters, rethink your birth control and women’s’ rights plans. And people should be able to marry whom they want. We built this country so people could have freedom, and not have religious beliefs control them to that length. This country was in no way built on any religion, so we should not create laws that repress the American people in a religious way and hurt our most vulnerable.

Sincerely,
Jackson Ripley, age 12

FWIW, I wrote Mitt Romney a letter, too…but mine fails in comparison to his…

I don’t resemble that remark…

Warning… This post is filled with some adult words of the profane nature. Sprinkled with anger and discontent.

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.”

Screw you, Mitt Romney.I’m not dependent on government, I don’t believe I’m a victim and it is not the government’s responsibility to care for me. However, like you (once upon a time, before you sold your soul and your beliefs to the highest bidder) I do believe that all humans are entitled to healthcare. And yes, I think if the government can help those who need help to get back on their feet, then they should help. And I’m not talking about bailing out corporations (even though I know you feel like they are people too) I mean, helping the actual backbone of this country grow strong again. You know, the little people? The middle class? (and contrary to your beliefs, $250,000 a year is not middle class income.)

Oh and BTW, I pay my taxes, asshole. Would you like to see my tax returns? Have you been audited? Because I have been…to the result of $5000+. I know, that’s probably the Christmas Bonus you give your door man, but hey, to me, $5000 was everything and then some. Show me your tax returns, asshole. Let’s compare percentages of tax to income and see who pays more.

Dick.

If EVER you needed a reason not to vote for this douche, THIS one statement should be it. I want my president to be concerned about ALL AMERICANS, not just those who can afford a $50,000 plate fundraiser.

Fuck. and You.

inspiring.

Boy, I love me some Bill Clinton. He did wonders as governor for my home state of Arkansas, and he did amazing things for our country as President. And last night, he kicked ass. And told the truth! (I’ve been reading the non-partisan fact checkers all morning and have been enjoying their struggle to find any actual lies in Clinton’s speech. There were exaggerations, which I expect in every political speech, but factually, Clinton did it right.) I hope Romney and Ryan were taking copious amounts of notes last night… If you didn’t get a chance to watch it, please do. No matter your political leanings, you have to admit this man is nothing if not inspiring.

In other, non-political news, Rader P has a football game in Conway tonight. I can’t wait to see him play. I missed his first game last week due to the fact that they scheduled it at 4:00 (thanks to Isaac) and it was 90 minutes away…I couldn’t get off early enough to make it. Made me sad, but thankfully, Rader understands that just showing up to all the games is not what makes a good parent. It’s the other stuff that counts.

In other, other news…I’m considering starting a M-W bootcamp next week…I’ll let you know if I survive…

friday fun day

This video is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

In other fun news, my favorite headline news statement this morning: “Honey Boo Boo beats the RNC.” HAH! *love*

And finally, our little itty bitty kitty has a name.

Introducing Little-Itty-Bitty  also known as Libby. And boy is Ruby in love.

I’m off to see my BFF from high school. Sushi, shopping and shenanigans!
