blog title? yeah, not today.

Holy crap, it was a busy weekend. Rader played in the Gold Division of the President’s Cup this weekend, and his team (The Deathcats) won the tournament! This means we are eligible to head to Greensboro, NC in June to represent Arkansas in the Regional tourney. How awesome is that? The last game was quite tough, as we had a very strict ref. He didn’t take no BS from anyone. So a player got ejected (well, he did throw a punch), Fishdog got ejected for yelling (after several warnings), a couple of parents got lectured and warned and a few more players were also sternly warned. And the game looked more like a rugby match than soccer. Lots of hitting, tripping, cursing, a few punches thrown (not even kidding) and mouthing off by parents and players alike. Fun times.<–NOT

Congrats Deathcats! Y’all played hard and you deserve the medal! For some action shots of Rader in the goal, go here.

It ended up being a beautiful fall weekend. My favorite kind of weather. Warm and windy with leaves raining down everywhere. Ruby, Clementine and I walked by the pond yesterday afternoon and I took some pretty cool pics.

And since Bobcat Greyskull isn’t allowed outside yet, I took one of him, being all cool and stuff:

My claws. Let me show you them.

I hope y’all had a great weekend. I did..but I’m glad it’s over…

ridin’ the storm out…sorta

Well the weather dudes were all sportin’ stiffies yesterday as severe weather threatened Arkansas. I think they were all saddened by the fact that Oklahoma beat us to the “home of the Quakenado” status.

They kept updating their facebook pages like they were Fred Sanford threatening to join Elizabeth. (If you didn’t get that reference, I forgive you your youth.)

Finally around 7:00 last night it started to rain. And it rained pretty hard for a little while. We even had some lightning. Trinity wasn’t happy…she is definitely not a fan of storms.

For the most part though, it was a big let down. I mean, I’m glad it wasn’t severe, but damn, if you guys are gonna get me pumped up about the weather, then I think I should at least get one giant clap of thunder. I’m not asking for a Quakenado, but I would like a little rumbling… Girding my loins for the impending doom was a total waste of effort.

Humph.

my favorite math

The only math I’m good at is Lottery Math and so this morning while I was driving my kid to football practice at 6:15 AM, we did Lottery Math.

Rader feels like once we win the lottery, $15M should be just about right for him. Yes, that’s what he thinks I should give him…hahaha. I said I would give he and his brother the same amount and it would remain in a Trust Fund until they were 30.

Apparently this was unacceptable. He should have more money than his brother and he should have full access to it at 18.

Keep dreaming kid.

While I’m spending money I don’t have, I believe after I do win the lottery, I’m going to hire someone to drive my kid to his predawn football practices. Don’t punish me, bro! That ain’t fair!

I’m very happy to announce that I’m going to be adding Project Runway to my recap resume over at Hey Don’t Judge Me! I’m working on Episode 1 right now and am planning to have future episodes up on Friday afternoons.

Sadly, we’re still having some behind the scenes upgrade activity, so I can’t post anything new yet. My Bachelorette posts are ready to go and I have high hopes I’ll have them up today, as well as my first Project Runway. I’ll keep you posted. But just because I like you, I’ll give you a little sneak peek of what I’m writing:

Julie Tierney, Grand Junction, CO is showing a collection of things made from blankets. I’m not even kidding. You know those woven blankets you can buy for $10 at every southern and midwestern convenience store? We always called them “Indian” blankets growing up. She is seriously making dresses out of them. Or that should probably be “dresses.” it’s an “outerwear” collection and Nina says “You have a passion for outerwear, clearly.” What I heard in my head was “You have a horse blanket fetish.”

The gayest of all the gays is Gunnar Deatherage from Louisville, KY. Heidi wants to see his look for an average woman. I’m expecting him to pull out yoga pants and a sweatshirt in a size L (or possibly XL, if it’s Thanksgiving) Instead he pulls out this pastel pink dress made from satin sheets, crystals, and broken dreams. I need to go to Louisville and meet some of his average woman peer group.

I’m not going to talk about the heat. Y’all know it’s hot. I don’t need to keep harping on it…I’m usually the one bitching about people who bitch about the heat anyway. (You can bitch about the winter all day, though.) I have air and electricity and there are plenty of people who don’t right now (Benton, AR where a substation caught fire yesterday) so I’m gonna be thankful and happy about it.

Oh and for you Kindle owners, you can request an autograph for my books on Kindle now. It’s pretty darn cool…check it out: Kindlegraph

skinny, lucky, hot, friday!

Because I’m such a dork, I totally took a pic of me in my skinny jeans this morning.

Now look. I know the skinny is really “skinny” but whatever. I haven’t worn these jeans in almost 2 years when I got down to my lowest weight since forever. And then I kinda sorta started eating everything that didn’t run away from me. (because if it ran from me, I would have to chase it…and well, that was exercise.) Anyway, I’m back in my “skinny” jeans and I’m damn happy about it…and SO ARE YOU. DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?

I’m also feeling rather lucky today because I was walking from my car to my office, looked down into a patch of clover (that I look at everyday) and what did I see?

That’s right. A four-leaf clover. My inner leprechaun jumped out and made see it as I was walking by, so that makes me not only “skinny” today, but “lucky” as well.

Now let’s talk about hot.

It is freaking HOT outside and I’m loving it. I’m sorry, but I’ll take 95 degree days over snow-covered 20 degree days anytime.

I mean, I know Little Rock isn’t a mecca of snowfall, but honestly, we had our share this year. And then the rain as well. So as far as I’m concerned, sunshine and HOT is most welcome here.

And it’s Friday. I have no kids, no plans, and no worries. Well, I am going to clean my fur-infested house but other than that, I’m hoping a certain someone’s pool will be blue again and that I can find myself lounging beside it at some point. Or maybe there will be a certain party barge that will have a charged battery and I can tool around the lake one day. Because I’m afraid I’m losing my tan and we can’t have that happen! It’s only June 3 for corn’s sake!

Happy weekend y’all!

less is more

Last night’s storms weren’t nearly as bad as predicted. Thankfully.

Today the air is heavy and I think we’re gonna get more rain, but I don’t think it’s gonna be stormy like it has been.

I’m ready for some more sunshine in my life. Good thing my beach trip is just one week away!!!

Sand. Sun. Surf. My holy trinity.

I can’t wait.

riding the storm out…

Yesterday was Operación de Rrasladar El Jefe Operation Relocate El Jefe. I drove my brother’s big ass truck (a country girl can survive!) (and holy crap, $90 to fill that bitch up!) to Oxford and we loaded it down like we were storing up for the apocalypse. Little did we know how close to the truth that would be…

I beat the storms out of town yesterday morning. It was crazy because I seriously drove through a line of sunlight, while I could see two different storm systems on either side of me. Oxford, was sunny and humid and we worked like pack mules to load up the trucks and U-haul so we could haul our asses out of there before the big storms hit.

We had no rain for the first 2 hours of the 3.5 hour drive. But as we were nearing Brinkley, we could see the crazy lightning storms and swirly skies and we knew we were heading right into the mouth of the dragon. (We also knew because of Mike Francis broadcasting on the radio and Fishdog calling to tell me where the funnel clouds were and how long we had… a big thank you for that, Fishdog. Seriously.)
We made it to Brinkley just as the sirens began to wail and just as it began to hail. We stood outside and watched. The cinder block building protected us from the straight-line winds and the rain. It was pretty amazing to see the storm roll in.

That flagpole was nearly bent into an arch a couple of times, the winds were so strong…

Luckily, we didn’t have any tornadoes.
Sadly, there are parts of the state that weren’t so lucky. Vilonia, AR was mowed down by a half-mile wide Wedge Shaped massive tornado.

We are supposed to have round two tonight, but I’m hoping things aren’t quite as tumultuous as last night was.

Thunder! Lightnin’! The way you love me is frightnin’!

This morning, I woke to a raging storm. Crazy, angry, loud, full of red and black on the radar storm. It was awesome for two reasons: 1. I got to stay in bed a little longer than usual and enjoy the hell out of it 2. The air pressure headache that I’ve had for almost a week FINALLY WENT AWAY. Let’s all breathe a collective sigh of relief, shall we? The weather was perfect this weekend. We were outside almost all day both days. Gorgeous sun, warm breeze, a little soccer, and beverages on decks, patios, and porches…. It was absolutely perfect. El Jefe left me about 5:45 last night and I wasn’t ready to call it quits, so I met the lovely Birdrunner and Wes at So for a nightcap on the patio. There was so much pollen in the air and the air pressure was so heavy, my headache just got worse, so I came home to Benadryl and Advil and fell into a coma. But this morning, I feel great. I’m glad the pain finally went away. Last week was sucky mcsuckypants. Hope your weekend rivaled mine in the awesome department. Anything fun happen?

Grey’s Anatomy: The Musical Event

I wasn’t going to do it. I wasn’t going to watch the singing cheesefest that Grey’s was calling their Musical Event.

But I did. And dammit, I cried. (I blame the lack of sun.)

Sure it had it’s moments of cheese and some of the singing was reminiscent of Pierce Brosnan’s singing in Mamma Mia, BUT, I kinda loved it. (Just as I kinda loved Pierce’s really bad singing… I did. I can’t help it. He’s Pierce Brosnan, dammit! )

The show was emotional, and the music (except for one song, IMO) really was a complement. I was sucked in. I’m a sucker. Sucker McSuckerPants. And I’m buying this song on iTunes today. Because damn. I love it.

Happy Friday y’all. I’m looking forward to seeing El Jefe this afternoon…and I’m really looking forward to seeing the sun. Because the weathermen PROMISED it would come out today and not go away all weekend.

It better. Or I’m gonna be hunting down some weather dudes. You guys have been warned…

Month of Mel: The End

And it’s another gloomy day here in The Rock. Luckily it’s supposed to be gorgeous and in the 70s this weekend…because the past week or more it has been cold, gray, and just plain yucky. I had to turn my heat back on! This should never happen after one has slept with the windows open. Someone needs to brush Mother Nature up on the RULZ.

I’ll be daydreaming all day that this is what I’m doing. Can’t you feel the sun warming your skin? Don’t you just wanna jump into the water and cool off?

Oh summer-like weather: Why hast thou forsaken me?

So we bring the Month of Mel to a close with dreams of sunkissed skin and lots of frolicking in the water. Let’s all dive into the deep end today!

2011: Month of Mel Day 18

I did not get kidnapped by leprechauns last night, nor did I find the pot o’ gold. But I did have a fantastic time with a group of women that I will be traveling to the beach with in exactly 46 days.

If y’all know anything about me, it’s that I need to be at the beach. Remember my charm necklace? One of my charms says Sand, Sun, Surf and that is pretty much my key to happiness right there.
This weekend is supposed to be gorgeous. We’re gonna have near 80 degree weather (it was actually 85 yesterday!!) and SUNSHINE! I am going to allow the sun to worship me all weekend. I’m not exactly sure what my plans are yet, but I promise to report back on Monday–with a tan line.
Okay, it’s off to work I go now, but I will be done at noon, and you will find me sitting in the sun reading by 12:30… Okay, maybe 1:30 as I do need to do a few things inside the house first…
Y’all have a great weekend! If you have any big plans, report them to me. If you are snowed in somewhere, I’ll try to send some sun vibes your way.
