Grey’s Anatomy: The Musical Event

I wasn’t going to do it. I wasn’t going to watch the singing cheesefest that Grey’s was calling their Musical Event.

But I did. And dammit, I cried. (I blame the lack of sun.)

Sure it had it’s moments of cheese and some of the singing was reminiscent of Pierce Brosnan’s singing in Mamma Mia, BUT, I kinda loved it. (Just as I kinda loved Pierce’s really bad singing… I did. I can’t help it. He’s Pierce Brosnan, dammit! )

The show was emotional, and the music (except for one song, IMO) really was a complement. I was sucked in. I’m a sucker. Sucker McSuckerPants. And I’m buying this song on iTunes today. Because damn. I love it.

Happy Friday y’all. I’m looking forward to seeing El Jefe this afternoon…and I’m really looking forward to seeing the sun. Because the weathermen PROMISED it would come out today and not go away all weekend.

It better. Or I’m gonna be hunting down some weather dudes. You guys have been warned…

2011: Month of Mel; Day of St. Patrick

Are ye wearin’ yer green today, lads and lassies?

I haven’t started looking for my four-leaf clovers yet, but I’m thinking today might be the perfect day to start! You know I’ll find one if I try…

Today is going to be a banner day! I’m wearing my green dress and pretending to be Irish all day… You know what that means, right?

That’s right! I pretend to be Irish and you get to kiss me! Lucky you!

I’m also going to listen to some of my favorite Irish bands today: The Pogues, Flogging Molly, Elvis Costello (English born, Irish ancestory. and I heart him), Sinead O’Connor, The Cranberries, Thin Lizzy… Firing up my Pandora station as we speak!

And tonight, when I get home, I think I’ll have to watch P.S. I Love You one more time. Sigh.

Here’s some links to some of my favorite scenes from that movie:

Galway Girl

I Love You til the End

And this song is my current ringtone:

total eclipse of the earworm

So I woke this morning with TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART playing in my head. I swear, my brain likes to mess with me. It made me dream freaky crap last night and then it gave me the earworm from hell.

Thanks, brain. You are awesome.

I always think of the summer before 9th grade when I hear that song. We were at church camp (true story!) and I had a crush on a boy named Darryl. (Not his brother Larry or his other brother Darryl.) Darryl was an older boy… he was going to be a junior to my freshman. He had blond hair, blue eyes and he wore a blue bandana tied around his head. He was just dreamy in a mid 80s sort of way.

After lights out, our camp counselors would always sneak off to the lake to get baked commune with nature, and we always snuck out to the rec area to make out play ping pong. Darryl kissed me played ping pong with me that night while Bonnie Tyler wailed about her heart’s total eclipse.
When church camp was over, I never heard from Darryl again. He was a ping pong playa and my heart was eclipsed. Totally.

Maybe I should have set my eyes on his other brother Darryl after all…

And for fun, here’s the Literal Video Version of Total Eclipse of the Heart…

bullets of awesome

  • William Shatner is doing another album and he teamed up with Zakk Wylde to cover Iron Man. Be still my heart.
  • My kid turned 13 yesterday. He had a nerdsplosion with his buddies over the weekend. Like a bad onion, the nerd still lingers in the air, even after everyone went home.
  • Saw my nieces yesterday when they popped over for pizza and birthday cake. Miss my girls. Don’t see them enough these days.
  • Birdrunner and I did the Death Valley Happy Fun-Time walk on Saturday but we were rained out yesterday. Hoping the rain stays away today so we can get our groove on.
  • I’m totally thinking of doing a Warrior Dash. Dude, it’s fire, mud and BEER. Epic.
  • The terrorists kittehs spent the beautiful weekend outside and now they are addicted to hunting leaves, bugs, and sunshine. My tee-tiny little house is grateful. Now to build kitteh doors…
  • My friend Dee’s horse placed 3rd yesterday in its first long race at Oaklawn. We’re hoping he’s running the weekend of the 12th when we’ll all be there.
  • I finally cleaned my house…except for my room which has 3 baskets of laundry and an unpacked suitcase. Sigh. It will never unpack itself, I know. But I keep waiting…
  • I’m down 8 lbs. This makes me happy. I’m glad I’m back on the stick.
  • I want pie.

Bill does Cee Lo Green’s F*** You

That about sums it up. It was an absolutely gorgeous 77 degrees on Saturday. I soaked up all the sunshine I could manage. Unfortunately, Mother Nature is intent on being a big ol’ tease and we’re gonna have highs in the 20s and 30s later this week. That sucks. I’m so ready for spring. Also, THE MONTH OF MEL is just around the corner. I’m planning a new tattoo to celebrate…

Hope ya’ll had a great weekend!

snuff

I’ve told you guys before that sometimes I wake with a song in my head. Not too long ago, it was Delta Dawn (I know right?), one time last year it was I’m Not Lisa from 1975 (click the link for the best ear worm ever!) Recently it’s been Pink’s Raise Your Glass. Partly because I love that song and partly because it’s being played constantly right now.

But today, I woke to one of my favorite Slipknot songs. And here’s the video. It’s super creepy and awesome. The song itself is haunting

Snuff

Oh Buddy!

Buddy the Elf: I think you’re really beautiful and I feel really warm when I’m around you and my tongue swells up.

I had so much fun with the movie quote yesterday, I’ve decided to post some of my favorites from now until Christmas. Or until I just forget to do it. I’ll be taking bets on which happens first…Christmas or me being too lazy forgetting to do it.

I think I love this quote because it’s amazingly romantic without trying to be. It made my heart swell up the first time I heard it.

You know what else I love about this movie? They sing my favorite wintery song in it!

I don’t know why I love that song so much… but I do. It makes me all tingly on my inside parts. And I actually love this movie. It’s on my holiday must rewatch list. There’s something about Buddy’s naivete and willingness just to go for it that makes me smile.

Hmmmm, what movie will I quote tomorrow?

bad night

I’ve been up since 3:00. I hate realistic dreams nightmares. I hate them with a passion. Especially the ones that linger after I wake like a fist of dread in the pit of my stomach. Strangely enough, I’ve had a few of them recently and I’m ready for them to disappear.

This morning, I tried to get up and be productive but my head was too messed up to write or even clean. So I turned on the TV in my room (I have one now thanks to El Jefe’s generosity ♥) and I watched infomercials and drifted in and out of semi-consciousness.

Where the dreams continued. Gee thanks. I love being messed with all day by my vivid and very mean subconcious.

Anyway, I’m going to do my best to make it all go away by listening to music that makes me happy. I heard this song on the radio this morning, it almost pepped me up… 🙂 I think this needs to be everybody’s theme song.

Settlin’ by Sugarland

I ain’t settling for just getting by
I’ve had enough so so for the rest of my life
Tired of shooting too low, so raise the bar high
Just enough ain’t enough this time
I ain’t settling for anything less than everything

shenanigans and pie

I will be hanging with my #2 kid (birth order, not preference) and my #1 Fella (definitely preference) at the Neon Trees concert tonight. Can’t wait. I predict shenanigans!

Check this out! They did a cover of Justin Bieber’s BABY and I actually LOVE this song now!

Tomorrow is the Hog game against Mississippi State and the night my friends do our Thanksgiving dinner. I’m bringing pies.

Because I make good pies.

Last week I made a chocolate pecan pie for El Jefe’s birthday and that seemed to be a big hit with my #1 fella, so I think I may do it all over again! Along with apple and punkin.

I love pie.

And here’s a little piece of Melf trivia: I was born on March 14 or 3/14…or 3.14 the number for pi.

I was born on Pi day! of course I love Pie!

ready or not…

It’s Friday! and by the time you read this, I’ll be on my way to Augusta, AR to have a little chat with the high school book club.

Word on the street is they loved BITE ME! and are ready to read LOVE SUCKS!

This makes Melf very happy.

After my chat I’m heading to Oxford to hang with El Jefe for the weekend. It’s his birthday weekend, ya know.

Oh and guess what? Next Friday, I’ll be watching the Neon Trees live and in person! I can’t wait…

Feed My Frankenstein!

Tomorrow night you will find me rockin’ out at the Rob Zombie/Alice Cooper concert.

I’ve always wanted to see Alice Cooper–Rob Zombie will just be a nice bonus. 🙂
Did you know I had a rocker girl buried deep inside me? Of course you did!
I’ve always loved Alice Cooper… even back in the day when he was accused of being a devil worshipper (along with KISS and Ozzy and WASP, etc. etc. etc.). Heh I’m such a rebel. *cough*
My real love for Alice bloomed when I watched Wayne’s World. This scene right here should make everyone love Alice Cooper. He’s awesome and I’m not worthy.

Now I wanna see Wayne’s World again. Right now.

And just so Rob Zombie doesn’t feel left out, here’s my fav of his songs:
