Your wish is my command.

My birthday twin, Beth, has commanded that I write my weekend recap because she needs some brain candy.

Well, far be it from me to disappoint her.

Though I’m afraid this blog may be more brain fluff than brain candy. Would that make it brain cotton candy? That’s not a bad thing…

OK, first off on Friday, my cousin posted this picture of me to Facebook. HAH! This pic currently graces my mother’s hall wall. My friends say it looks just like me. I disagree. But here, you decide.

hehehehe. I was a cutie. Of course, I cut my bangs the day before this picture was taken, so mom had to take me for an emergency hair cut…that’s why my forehead looks giant. haha I wasn’t quite 3 years old here. And that puppy had seen many better days…

Saturday morning I drove Rader to meet the soccer carpool since his game was 3 hours away. BTW, I don’t like 8:00 on Saturday mornings. However, I decided I’d make the best of being vertical that early so I went to Two Rivers Bridge to walk…only to find out it was closed for a bike race. I decided to go to Pinnacle Mountain and walk the base trail. It was a beautiful cool overcast morning and perfect for a hike.

It was also perfect for the pterodactyl-sized mosquitoes to feed on me til I was too weak to move. They also tried to carry me off to their nest where they were gonna feed me to their young. Holy Crap I have never been swarmed like that before. Was crazy. I did hike 1.5 miles before I called it quits. I also got to see this really giant uprooted tree:

Then I returned to the Compound where El Jefe and I mowed and cleaned up after the last wreck in our yard. You know, where the dude took out my giant forsythia and left half of his front end in my front yard? Yeah, it was finally time to mow, so that shit had to go. I should have made him come back and clean it up. Jerk-wad.

I believe this may have been my last date with John Deere for the season…. I’m gonna miss his sweet rides.

Sunday I made another Pinterest recipe that turned out pretty good. They sure looked pretty and they were definitely tasty. They’ll make a great brunch item for the holidays I think.

They’re pretty much bacon-wrapped quiches. You make them in a muffin tin.

And finally, I spent yesterday hanging with Rader P.  I walked in the morning and then he and I watched a friend of his from Oxford play soccer. Her team won the tournament and ironically, her father works for the same company I used to work for when I lived there. Small world huh? Also check out my kid and how damn cute he is…

after the game, we went to the PartyHood where Robyn grilled us some burgers then we went to the GodFodda’s house and hung out until it was time to go to Rader’s game….It was a good afternoon and a great weekend. And with that, I leave you with this moment of zen.

My friend Bill hanging with Robyn’s three-legged cocker spaniel. Her name is Lovey but I call her Lambchop.

Hope your weekend was as awesome (and less tiring) as mine! Now let’s kick Monday in the ass and sparkle hard today!

burn baby burn and other stuff

It’s Tuesday. It feels like Monday. Probably because I spent the entire weekend working my ass off. Or at least Sunday & Monday I did…

We’ve been under a burn ban since May, so when Isaac rolled through last week, the ban was officially lifted and I officially got busy.

Sunday afternoon, I stopped by my friend Lori’s house for some lasagna and Bellinis. Yum. And for a little reminiscing… She apparently just put together some old photo albums from our college years and thereafter…. Check out this beauty.

I believe this was the luau we had at our friend Dave’s house. This was actually between babies…I’m pretty sure summer of 96 or 97.  Beautiful, huh? hahahaha

Little-Itty-Bitty is doing well. She’s eating like nobody’s business and starting to do some exploring and playing. She seems to be getting some energy now that she’s fattening up. She is definitely a snuggly Kitty and she adores Jefe.

Hope y’all had a great holiday weekend. I’m exhausted still from all the burnin’ and cooking I did. (I made potato cakes and bacon for breakfast yesterday. Quiche for dinner. (I also did a Quiche on Sunday for some friends and on Saturday, made chili-cheese dip, bacon-ranch crazy bread for the Razorback watch party!) Woo Pig Sooie! It’s time for some football again!

the little things

I love documenting daily life and memories. It’s part of why I still blog. It’s not that what I have to say is important, it’s that it helps me document the little things in my life that will always be important to me.

It’s why I love to take pics. I love documenting things that make me happy. Things that touch my heart. Things that just strike me in that moment. My past is always going to be a part of my present because it defined the person I’ve become. I would never want to erase that from my life. Sure I’ve made mistakes, made bad decisions, fought some demons…but if not for those things, I can’t say I would have turned into the person I am today. And frankly, I like myself.

So the past is important to me, but not as a security blanket. Not for something to cling to. You learn and move on.

But you should never try to erase it.

And now I document my present because I want to always have my memory trail. I want to remember the sweet moments of lounging on the couch with Jefe on a rainy Saturday afternoon. I want to remember the goofy moments that my kids bless me with every day. I want to remember Ruby’s pitiful face when she’s not getting enough attention, or Trin-Trin’s smile when she’s on the bed…because these things are my key to happiness. I take a picture every day because it’s the everyday little things that are worth remembering to me.

aw yeah

I’m gonna have to start working on my 80s outfit…because on October 9th, I’m gonna be on the floor, row 18 of Verizon Arena…for the JOURNEY, LOVERBOY AND PAT BENATAR concert!

I was a bit of an 80s concert ho… If they came to town, I bought a ticket. I think I’ve seen Ozzy 5 times. I saw Journey my junior year, I saw Loverboy at every river concert they showed up to in the 80s…BUT…I never once got to see Pat Benatar.

And I’m stoked.

So look out Verizon…we’re gonna party like it’s 1986. And you’re gonna like it.

Hope I can remember how to tease my bangs…

milestones

Has anyone seen these two boys? No? Yeah, me either…

As of this morning, my baby is a freshman in high school. I mean. Wow.

Also, I bought textbooks for my eldest son today…who will be a freshman in college next week. (I had to sell a kidney to pay for them, thankfully his financial aid will ease that pain some…)

Growing up is hard on a momma.

hey ho! Let’s go!

Gratuitous lake pics because we are headed there today! Yippee!

Photobucket
Do you recognize this hot blonde? Yep…she’s now a hot red-head…

Do you recognize these 2 kids? Me neither…

Photobucket
Or these 2 kids? Funny a difference 6 years can make. YAY LAKE!

then and now

Okay, so lately someone has been digging around in my archives reading tons of my past posts. I’m always curious when I see that something I’ve posted is interesting enough to cause curiosity to dig into my past…and so I always follow the links they click to see what they’re reading. And then I usually smile because there are some good (and some not so good) memories stored in my archives. Also, sometimes I’m funny. (I know, this is very surprising…)

Anyway, yesterday I read an post from 2009 where I posted a meme that was going around Facebook. You pick one artist and answer the questions with song titles from that artist…and try not to repeat the song titles….

I thought it would be fun to compare my answers from 2009 to 2012…Let’s see how much things have changed….

Hmmmm. Kinda fun. Not much has changed in the friendship realm. I still have the bestest friends on earth. But it seems I’m a much happier and fulfilled than I was in 2009–which, lemme just say: Duh. Also, Staind needs to lighten up a little bit. Damn.

So enjoy digging around in my archives. I love knowing that you find my life so interesting. Sorry you’re having to relive it vicariously through my words. You should have been there when it was happening in real time!

un-in-spired

I’m just not feeling it today. Still kinda Meh. I think I’ve figured out what’s wrong with me, and trust me, it’s no fun.

So instead of whining and carrying on like a little bitch, I thought I would link you to some fun posts from the past.

Month of Mel 2012: Day 13 March 13, 2012

Go forth…read some of my past thoughts. See what makes Melf smile and then somebody do something to make me smile today, because the god of your choice knows I could use it.

/whining like a little bitch.

too much plot.

Dear Magic Mike,

Less talking. More more skin.

Love,
Melf

The movie was fun. But seriously, way too much plot.

How was your weekend? Do anything fun? I got some sun, had some fun with my girls, and cleaned out my closet! (Not to mention spent some fun time with Magic Mike).

I also donated a ton of clothing to Big Brothers and Big Sisters…including my wedding dress. That felt a little weird, but also good. I’m very hopeful that it will bring someone the happiness it once brought me. It’s a beautiful dress, if you’re into that sorta thing. I wanted to elope. But when we didn’t, I decided screw it, I’ll be Princess for a day. And then the princess part stuck…haha. Some people are just meant for royalty–and some are just pretenders to the throne. hahahaha. I’m funny.

Well, that’s all I have for ya today. Love ya. Mean it.

I’ve been waiting…

For a musical like you, to come into my life…

Confession: I don’t like musicals. At. All. I can name 3 that I actually enjoy…the rest can all jump in a lake. I can’t stand Glee and I know that offends many of you, but I just can. not. watch it. Without gagging and rolling my eyes so hard it hurts.

I realize this makes me a traitor to my gender, but somehow I’ve managed to be able to live with that.

Friday night, I went to see ROCK OF AGES with my girlfriends. I knew full well that it was a musical and I was quite aware that there would be some cheese-tastic moments full of eye-rolling glory, but I was willing to risk permanent eye injury to relive the music of my high school and college years. I wanted to go back to the days of big hair, short skirts, rockin’ concerts, and ripped jeans.

And ROCK OF AGES did not disappoint.

So I went to see it again on Sunday. Yes. That’s how much I loved this movie.

It is funny, campy, cheesy and epic. I never fancied myself a Tom Cruise ‘fan’ (not since Top Gun *fans self*) and especially not since his couch jumping visit to Crazy Town…but let me tell you, I am now, officially a huge fan. He was born to play this role. And he rocked it. Pun intended.

And if I thought I was in love with both Alec Baldwin and Russel Brand before this movie? Let me tell you, I didn’t know what love was until this flick.

This movie is to be seen knowing it is a musical. Knowing it isn’t to be taken seriously, but just enjoyed. And even if you’re allergic to most musicals like I am, you will enjoy this movie, especially if you were a teen or in your early twenties in the 80s.
