topless driving and inappropriate conversations

How is it that I waited this long to buy a convertible? I will never have anything else now. *so in love with sally sparkle*

Seriously, I require a massive amount of sunlight to make me happy. Just driving with the top down on the way to work, starts my day off just right. No matter what mood I’m in when I wake up, I’m always happier after 20 minutes in the sun and wind.
Welcome to the bullet points of miscellany. My brain is in ADHD mode, so you have been warned:

  • My little salsa garden is doing great! I cannot wait to make my first batch of homemade salsa.
  • I was feeling kinda cranky last night and Rader was so cute trying to make me laugh. He finally managed to succeed.
  • Ian washed the dishes and watered the plants yesterday because he is awesome.
  • I have a doctor’s appointment in 10 days for a check up. Is it possible to lose 30lbs by then?
  • I am the best griller on earth. I know grilling is supposed to be a man’s job, but seriously, nobody with a penis can hold a candle to my awesome meat.
  • That makes me Queen of the Grill.
  • Eating clean is going pretty well, except for the 1 week hiccup due to my headcold…then I just ate anything that was easy. Mostly cheese and chimichangas. Apparently I needed to feed my cold Mexican food.
  • Stacey Jay is coming over again this weekend and I love her with ALL THE LOVE.
  • I don’t want her to leave me again.
  • We have fun conversations that are very inappropriate. Here’s a snippet of things you miss when you’re not with us “YOU CAN’T PUT YOUR CAT INSIDE ME!”
  • Please don’t ask me to provide the context of that quote.
  • Oh, here’s another provided by my friend Marissa: “She is little. She is mean. She is a bitch… HER NAME IS AMY.”
  • Stacey and I think that is a fantastic book title. We may have to write that story.
  • There is a mattress on my porch. We are klassy.
  • There may have been a discussion of droopy meat-curtains and shaggy rugs women who don’t landscape during swimsuit season.
  • Rader starts driver’s ed this week. He’s been rocking it with me, so I’m pretty sure he’ll pass with driving colors.
  • If I win the lottery, I’m going to fly far, far away.
  • I rewatched Game of Thrones and it wasn’t as meh for me this time. However, I still needed somebody bad to die. Mostly, I needed Joffrey to die.
  • I imagine Margeary killing Joffrey on their wedding night with the same bow he killed Roz with.
  • That will never happen, but it would be awesome.
  • He’s probably gonna die in some weaselly way…like choke on a rib bone while torturing Sansa. I would be okay with that, too, as long as nobody tries to save him and they watch him die.
  • I would like his grandpa to stand over him while he gasps for breath while choking. Grandpa would say, “I can’t hear you, did you say ‘save me, I’m your King?’ because, you’re no king.”
  • I need a swimming pool.
  • And a lake or beach in my backyard.
  • Sorry. I’m just saying things now.
  • I’ll stop bullet pointing and move on.
  • In a minute.
  • happy Tuesday y’all.
  • Bye.
  • Bye.

A weekend of sunshine and awesome.

I posted my Week 1 of 12 update at FCR this morning. Also there’s a fantastic baked or grilled salmon recipe included. Go forth and enjoy.

What a lovely weekend. I managed to mow for a couple of hours on Saturday, after walking 4 miles with Robyn. I also drove topless all weekend long.

The TreeFrog and his friend came over to do some yard work and enjoy foods that only his momma can fix.

That night, I baked some asparagus stuffed chicken breasts and made rice pilaf…mmmmm. And let met tell ya something, I threw some of the leftovers into a tortilla and added a little sour cream and avocado yesterday and it was one of the yummiest wraps I’ve ever tasted.

I don’t know if you’ve figured it out or not, but I’m kind of a big deal in the kitchen. (true story)

Jefe and I took the girls for their first swim of the season this weekend. Well, Trinity swam, Ruby waded and played but didn’t venture out very far. She sinks without her life jacket anyway, so probably it was for the best.

This was a lovely weekend. First one in a while that was sunshiny and warm. I even have a little color on my face and arms now! YAY! I hope y’all enjoyed the hell out of your weekend, and that you’re sparkling extra brightly today…even though it’s a Monday!

Oh, and BTW, my Father-in-Law’s surgery was successful and he’s home safe and sound. Thanks for the love and healing thoughts!

Happy day of foolishness!

“A naked woman in heels is a beautiful thing. A naked man in shoes looks like a fool.”

Wise words for a foolish day…

How was your weekend? Mine was pretty fantastic. I love stormy weather. Lightning crackling and thunder booming…hard rains pelting the roof in a soothing staccato, lulling me back to sleep with its rhythmic lullaby… the only problem with the stormy weather (aside from the hail. POOR SALLY SPARKLE) was trying to get out of bed on Sunday. So I didn’t. Until lunch time with the family.

Saturday afternoon, Jefe and I went to see GI JOE. Ladies, I’m not gonna lie, too many shirts were worn in this movie. But there was plenty to see and enjoy. And lots of explosions and bullets. And a little bit of witty repartee. It was covered in cheese, but that’s okay. Would you really expect anything else?

Friday was the only “lovely” day of the weekend until Sunday late afternoon, so when I got home from work, I sat outside and read.

I really wish Spring would get here and stay. It’s going to rain here Tuesday-Thrusday and only be in the 40s. But today, it will be sunny and  70s so Robyn and I are gonna get an outside walk in, while we have a chance.

Now, for a really lovely and inspiring read, for those of us who are amply-endowed and trying to get healthy. Check this out…HEY, FAT GIRL.

Hope y’all have a beautiful Monday. And be careful for the pranksters…they’re out there. And you never know…you might be their next target!

ETA: btw, Carbkiller has resurrected our Fat Chicks Running blog and I’m gonna be participating again as well. I’m doing a 12 weeks challenge, so if I haven’t blogged here, you’ll probably find me there.

2013: The Month of Mel days 9-11

This weekend in SPARKLE:

Saturday, I had a very special playdate with my Best (male) Friend from High School. He moved back to Arkansas before the holidays, and we’ve had dinner a couple of times, but we haven’t been able to have good, quality time yet.

We went to Dizzy’s for lunch and had some fantastically large portions of food. We drove with the top down and took Sally Sparkle to Wye Mountain where I posed for my Easter Card. (Just kidding. I posed, but I don’t send out Easter cards. I’m not your grandmother.) The sky was beautiful, the temp was warm…and we cruised like it was our job!

We had so much fun, that we weren’t ready for it to end…So we called ALL-CAPS Kristal and she joined us on the porch at SO for a couple of beverages. Then we continued the day well into the night, by hanging out at Dale and Terry’s Bachelor pad. El Jefe joined us and I cooked a magnificent pasta and we just chatted and laughed until it was time to go home.

Sunday, I napped. That’s how you beat Daylight Savings Time, you see…You nap.

We have officially entered the WEEK OF MEL (subcategory to the MONTH OF MEL) We have initiated mandatory sparkle. If you have a bad week…you have nobody to blame, but yourself. 😉

Sparkle on, my minions!!

2013: Month of Mel Day 8

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL (WORKING) WOMEN’S DAY!

International Women’s Day is sponsored worldwide by the United Nations. The roots of this celebration goes back to the late 1800’s to early 1900s. It grew from women’s socialist movements and early women’s trade union groups.

The first International Women’s Day was held March 19, 1911. Women socialists and trade unions held an earlier Women’s Day on the last Sunday in February, 1908. The event grew from there and has been celebrated annually since. The focus is upon women workers, and advancing women’s rights in  the workforce, politics and society.

Know how you can support a woman? Tell the government to stay out of her body and also, yell at your representatives if he or she didn’t sign the Violence Against Women Act.

Also, tell her she sparkles. When a woman feels good on the inside, it shows on the outside and you should let her know.

You know what else is celebrated today?

BE NASTY DAY (I’m not even kidding…)

There’s naughty days, and nice days, and all sorts of goodie gumdrop days. So, it stands to reason that there will be a few negative type of days. This is one of them.

I think if you want to celebrate this day, it’s all you. I’m too happy to be nasty…unless you’re talking spicing up your sex-life…and if it’s between two (or more) consenting adults, then I’m all for you being as nasty as you want.

Tonight, my college roommates and I celebrate my birthday. It will be a good time. I am very much looking forward to seeing them…Now, if I can just blink my eyes and wiggle my nose and get my college body back before dinner.

You guys had better have a great weekend. I have plans with Sally Sparkle. It’s gonna be a topless kind of Saturday…!

2013: Month of Mel day 6

So, how’s the happiest month on earth been treating you so far? According to my horoscope, I am “about to enter a magical month that will bring a planetary lineup so rare and beneficial that I won’t see this type of sparkling support again for decades.”

Sparkling support. Damn right it’s the Month of Mel. I wonder if this is the type of sparkling support they were talking about? Hmmm probably not.

It’s supposed to be beautiful and warm this weekend, which means I can take Sally Sparkle out with her top down! Yay! Aside from the first day I bought her, I’ve not been able to drive her topless…it’s been cold and windy and we even had some snow (flurries)! Of course, I know it was just Mother Nature giving me a nod…sending me little bits of sparkle from the sky to celebrate my month. Thanks for loving me, MN. You’re mostly awesome!

As many of you know, I share my birthday month with my eldest son, Ian. He will be 19 next weekend. All he has asked for is to spend time with us and a few friends…we are doing a spa day, then taking him to Oaklawn. It’s gonna be a great day! He’s very excited about it. As am I.

what color should we paint our toes?

I love that my boys want to give me a pedicure for my birthday and that they WANT to get their toes done as well. My kids are awesome.

Love Hangover is not allowed…

Yesterday was a fabulous day off! I spent the day driving Sally Sparkles around with her Top Down! Everyone loves to go topless on a sunshiny day!

El Jefe and I drove to the river for a lovely picnic lunch, then he drove her around and was very excited at her awesomeness.

Last night, we had a quiet, candlelit nosh. I made us a fun little cracker and cheese plate, we had our wine & scotch, and a table cloth with all kinds of fun love stickers. Including ROBOTS. Robots make everything better.

In other car related news, I am now officially sporting a vanity plate on Sally Sparkles. 2 of my dreams have come true in 1 week. I need to check my horoscope and see if the planets are aligned or something.

and finally, I leave you with this…because it made me laugh.

and now you know. I’m just trying to be fair. That’s all.

Happy Friday! Peace, love and sparkles all around!

Meet Sally Sparkle

Ain’t she pretty? Happy Balemtime’s Day to me!!

We make a perfect couple.

I FINALLY GOT MY CONVERTIBLE THAT I’VE ALWAYS DREAMED OF HAVING! It feels good not to settle.

Hope y’all have a great VD. Be sure and take your cootie shots! Hope you get lots of sugar from your sweetie!
