a good time was had by all

This was a fabulous holiday weekend. Sadly, the party barge is still out of commission so we were unable to spend the weekend on the lake. However, we made the best of it…

Saturday morning, El Jefe and I went to the Argenta Foodie Fest which was not at all what we expected. It was more of a Farmer’s Market with restaurants. So we blew that Popsicle stand and headed to Big Whiskey’s where we met Laura, Ellis and the Godfather for lunch and Bloody Mary’s. Then I went home and took a LONG nap. LOOOOOONG nap. Then Jefe and I embarked on a LOVE BITES marathon on Hulu. This show is brilliant and funny as hell. If you haven’t watched it yet, get thee to hulu.com and make it so. Because it really is fantastic.
Sunday I cleaned my room, which you may think should have only taken a little while, but sadly it took all day because I have a condition known as Flat Surface Syndrome. If there’s a flat surface, I’m gonna put something on it. Yes, I admit it, I have a clutter problem. Also, I’m lazy. So I fired up SPORTS NIGHT on Netflix (one of the best shows ever) and watched 12 episodes while I cleaned and de-cluttered.
I had an audience too…
please note the bed is made…I mean, I know it’s covered up with crap but at least it’s made…
Then it was yard work time. The Compound was in dire need of a good mowing and raking. I got to play on the John Deere while Jefe sweated his ass off raking. 🙂 But Sunday morning we switched roles… Note to self: playing on the John Deere is totally funner than raking.

When I started working outside, Clementine and Ruby decided to pay Baby Bear a visit…

And finally, yesterday was a great pool party with some of the best people on earth. I was exhausted from all the fun, so I took a little nap…

How was your weekend?

a things and stuffs blog

Tonight we celebrate Jenn Christman’s bday. There will be margaritas involved. And sparkle. And possibly cookies.
Usually I have the Pomegranate margarita but recently I’ve discovered the Antonio Banderas La Bandera Margarita that is really, really yummy. It has a bit of Pomegranate and Midori and fresh squeezed lime and lemon juices as well as tequila and Cointreau. It packs a punch. A very tasty punch.
I also brought my shoes to wear tonight. You know which shoes I’m talking about, right?

Yes. THOSE SHOES. Because everyone’s birthday should be celebrated with these shoes…I wish I could wear them all day, but as we all know, I have trouble walking in flip flops sometimes…so there’s no way I’d ever attempt to walk on campus in these bad boys.
Also, today will mark the return of my SWEET BABY MACBOOK! Yippee! I have missed you SBMB. So. So. Much.
What else is going on? El Jefe’s dad is in town. He’s a hoot. They are heading to the Big Dam(n) Bridge this morning to check it out. Wish I could join them, but they expect me to show up at the office. Humph. I should get paid just for being me. Where’s that job? The interview would be like this: Mel, you are sparkletastic and we want to pay you 100 million billion dollars just for being you. How’s that sound?
Me (humbly of course) wow. I think that sounds reasonable. Thank you!
And then me and all my besties would run off to some beach, somewhere together…

to the point.

  • couldn’t get out of bed this morning.
  • Bobcat Greyskull has two speeds: Coma and Turbo.
  • I have an awesome boyfriend who is awesome and does awesome things for me and the boys and I totally appreciate it.
  • I’m really busy at work today, hence the bullet points.
  • Sweet Baby MacBook should be ready for me next week. I HAVE MISSED HER SO.
  • I caught up on GAME OF THRONES last night, Oh. Em. Gee.
  • I am so ready for Happy Fun-Time at the Lake this weekend. YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW.
  • I have a lunch date with my girls and then Wine Wednesday with them later.
  • Which means, I have a date with Kim Cattrall Crawford as well.

monkey see; monkey play

Rader P had his 2nd guitar lesson last night and Jag is impressed with how quickly he seems to be picking it up. So my little monkey is now practicing a few chords from BAD MOON RISING.

(there’s monkeys in the video, too. When I pick out a theme, I take it all the way!)

ION I found another four-leaf clover this morning when on the phone with Jenn C. (now with more monkeys)

Okay, well that’s all I have right now, unless you want to hear the story about how I nearly had a stroke while waiting to buy gas last night… Thankfully I was on the phone with Dee for the ENTIRE 40 MINUTES otherwise you would be reading about me in the paper. The headline would either be: Woman Strokes Out Waiting in Line or Woman Goes Mad and Kills All Stupid People at the Kroger Gas Station (FYI, that 2nd headline is probably the most accurate)

what the?

So let me ask you a quershtchen.

How is it possible that this tall-ass, long-haired hippy -like 13 year old rocking the 70s sweat band…

is the same kid rocking the pudgy 4th grade catholic school look in this picture?

These 2 pics are 4 years apart. Crazazy, huh?

I would gladly share a recent pic of Ian to compare the difference, but he isn’t a big fan of the camera. You’d think he was 17 or something. (big eye roll)

I have Bunko at my house on Friday night. Should be interesting as I’ve not had more than 2 people at a time over simultaneously. My house is rather small cozy. I’m looking forward to hosting the shindig though…

I’m hopefully also looking forward to Saturday… we will find out tomorrow if our tentative plans are a go. Everyone keep your fingers crossed because we need more of these types of pics–from this year:
I’m going to miss you tonight, Wine Wednesday. I have too much to do and no time to do it… We’ll see you next week!

HEY DON’T JUDGE ME!

Nevermind, you can totally judge me…

Remember me talking about my friend Stoney who writes some of the funniest recaps of GAME OF THRONES and REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW JERSEY for her awesome website Hey Don’t Judge Me?

Guess who is the newest contributor to the site?

That’s right… ME. Check out the Who’s Who page… See? It’s official.

And Maria Geraci? I don’t wanna hear one word from you about me caving and watching The Bachelorette again. Because it is ALL YOUR FAULT. You made me do it. I swear. (you totally knew I couldn’t resist, didn’t you?)

That’s right. I’m recapping this season’s Bachelorette in all of its Masked Glory.

OH. EM. GEE. This is such a train wreck! And I’m so honored to have been asked to contribute to such a fantastic website! So you guys please spread the word and the comment love. Not just on my posts, but check out the others. There are some very witty and well written posts that you need to check out.

Now.

So hurry up and go. I’ll be here when you get back.

Oh, and my first post is live! The Bachelorette: Season Ashley episode 1

4 days in 10 seconds [estimated]

  • Friday was unfun.
  • Saturday was a blast. Good friends and food and lots of fun.
  • Sunday stranded on the lake with a dead battery with the wind whipping us all over the water like we were Forrest Gump and Lt. Dan.
  • Jumping said dead battery by holding two boats together in the mad wind and choppy water.
  • Monday: Sore muscles from holding two boats together.
  • Yardwork. John Deere Dreams.
  • NEAR FATAL Spider bite on pinky finger by a stupid (now dead) spider that took up residence in my gardening glove.
  • Hanging with Birdrunner by the pool.
  • Bed early. Slept til 1:00. Up til 4:00.
  • Drinking coffee like it’s my lifeblood.

How was your holiday?

FANtastic

First off…IF YOU’RE NOT WATCHING GAME OF THRONES I MAY HAVE TO UNFRIEND YOU.

This show is just amazing. I can’t even begin to express how much I appreciate the character development and the complex nature of the stories.

If you are watching then you need to check out these hysterical reviews that my friend Stoney writes. (Also, you can read them if you’re not watching because they are so well written, it’s truly like you’re watching the show while reading.)

My favorite storyline right now is the developing romance between the Dothraki leader Khal Drogo and his young wife Daenerys Targaryen. At first I thought she was going to be another whiny, wimpy girl who I would want to beat with a skillet to stop her eyes from their incessant leaking. But no. She’s turning into quite the strong woman. Writers should be watching this show for her character development alone. They do it right. Period.

In other FANtastic news…I got a fabulous Fan letter today and my favorite part was where she said I’m her hero because my books make her want to read more books.

Love. Love. Love. 1000 times Love.

oops I did it again.

I went to Pinup Girl Clothing and started drooling daydreaming over several dresses. This may not end well…

But seriously, how hot are these dresses?

Yeah. I have a serious need…for more cash. HAH!

In the world of friendship, I hung with ALL-CAPS KRISTAL last night after hanging with two of my besties at SO where we enjoyed a nice bottle of Wirra Wirra Shiraz. YUM. That is all.

BTW, drinking wine on a Tuesday night and staying up past my bedtime was probably not the best idea now that I work full-time and am supposed to be respectable. (being respectable is overrated. Am I right?)

I started planning my new tattoo this week. The idea came to me in a dream and now I’m totally stoked. I need to go see Jud at 7th Street and discuss the design and see what he can work up for me. I wanna try to get it in June… YAY! Hopefully Carla will come take more pics for me again!

In failure news, I did not get to make cherry cobbler last night. But since I drank red wine I think that totally counts.

meet Katie

Last year I participated in the Relay for Life in honor of one of my dearest friend’s daughter, Katie. Katie lost her battle with cancer, and the world is a darker place because of it.

This is a note from Katie’s mom, ALL-CAPS KRISTAL

My Reason to Relay

My Reason to join Relay for Life is my daughter, and your daughter or son. I had never given much thought to CANCER. My daughter had been a healthy beautiful little girl, she was never even sick. I worried about the normal things, are they eating right, are they progressing, is it time for shots, don’t talk to strangers. I never worried about Cancer; my family did not have a history of it. I thought she had a stomach ache, and it turned out to be a tumor. That is the day my life changed. Your first reaction is WE WILL FIGHT this. We fought hard we went for two years every treatment to fight this we did. The problem is we ran out of treatments. It takes research to find new cures for Cancer, and Research takes money. My daughter’s Cancer was Neuroblastoma Stage 4 she was given a 20% survival chance. I want to help raise awareness and money for research, My wish is that another parent never has to be sitting where I was that fateful day, and if they are there I want the Doctors to be able to say, THEY HAVE A CHANCE. And RESEARCH is the WAY.

I’m unable to participate in the walk this year, but I would like to put a call out for donations.
