1/12

Can you believe January is over? Crazy.

Which means we have 14 days to prepare for the Commercial Day of Love!

Okay, I don’t wanna be such a cynic. I really used to love Valentine’s Day…once upon a time. But when you wake up one day and realize the only good V-Days (and B-Days for that matter) you’ve ever had were because you planned them yourself and finally stopped hoping you’d get a lovely gift that took planning and forethought, then being cynical is understandable. (Pro-Tip for the guys: Kroger flowers are fine on a random Wednesday…but please, if you’re gonna go the flower route for V-Day, take a little care and buy from a florist…Okay? Or pick wildflowers…that’s even better…) (Oh and get her favorite flowers, or something original. Roses are lovely, but if you get them every year, you’re just being lazy.) /end unsolicited advice

These days I approach Valentine’s Day with a different eye. I actually receive a tremendous amount of joy in giving gifts…especially when it’s the “perfect” gift for the person.

Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? If so…start planning now to give a great gift and you’ll enjoy it even more.

PS: You can never go wrong with something sparkly. 🙂

2013: Day the 3rd

I kinda like this and will work on applying it to my life. Especially #5. Haha. I think WAY too much. I need medication to help me think less. I think the one I’ve heard the most about is called cannabis, sadly it’s not legal here. hahahaha

How was your New Year? Mine was absolutely wonderful. There was lots of laughter, champagne, and more laughter. My kid and my Domestic Partner crack me up. (yes, I’ve decided to call Jefe my DP from now on. It’s awesome.)

We had a FRINGE marathon New Year’s Day. I got to start the show from the beginning and now I’m hooked. Two things I’ve taken from this show that are awesome:

“Excellent! Now let’s go make some LSD!”

“Peter. This is me, Walter Bishop. Your father.”

From now on when I call Jefe, this is how it’s gonna go. “Jeffery. This is me, Melissa Francis. Your domestic partner.”

I may have to call him every single day just to say that. And of course, when the conversation is over, I will be sure to mention making LSD.

Wow. I’ve mentioned 2 illegal drugs in this blog…that has to be a first. Whatever will you think of me? What do I care? It’s funny.

Ian is having his wisdom teeth removed today, so I’ll be at home this afternoon to take care of him. My mother-in-law had surgery last week, and I’m taking her and Poppy some soup at lunch. I gotta take care of the people I love, doncha know?

Okay folks, any resolutions this year? Any revolutions this year? Or revelations?

*chin fist* tell me about them…

are we there yet?

First off…the prodigal boyfriend has returned! yippee! He spent the holidays with his family in GA and then went to his nephew’s wedding, so he was gone for two whole weeks! Thank goodness I had decorating to do, and orientation at my 2nd job and friends to keep me busy. 🙂 Oh who am I kidding, I’m always busy.

Speaking of decorating:

 The Pimp Tree
The Flamingo Tree (yes, it’s decorated with several flamingos and the tree topper is a flamingo with a sparkly santa hat on…)

However, I did enjoy this past weekend of alone time. It was wonderful–as I don’t get much of that in my life. I did a LOT of yard work. Burned 8 piles of leaves and raked and mulched for about 10 hours over the weekend. I cleaned the house, did laundry, watched Love Actually again. (I am aware I have a problem.) I thought about wearing my sparkly santa hat to do yard work in, but decided since it was 76 degrees that I would burn up if I did so.

Here I am in my sparkly goodness. I do love the holidays…even though I’m not quite ready for holiday music yet. I’ll start playing it the week before Christmas probably. It’s just too soon…and too warm. How can you listen to Winter Wonderland when you’re wearing shorts and flip flops? (and you’re not at the beach…?)

It’s only Tuesday, and I’m already wishing for Friday. Or at least, Thursday night. (You know, Friday Eve) I’m ready for my 2 week holiday vacation to kick in…for me it starts on the 20th…just in time for the end of the world on the 21st. Guess we need to start working on our apocalypse lists again….

Have a happening day! Don’t forget to sparkle…it makes the people around you very happy.

Weekly recap

Hey gang. Sorry I bailed on ya this week. I needed a respite. I’ve been busy planning an awesome birthday celebration for El Jefe. Which was yesterday. Which included a video montage of happy birthday messages from several of his out-of-state friends, a message from the boys…where they killed a hooker and she turned into a zombie and then they died. A message from da Godfodda and Laura, and finally my message…where I made him a bacon sandwich.

And he woke up yesterday, and there was a bacon sandwich waiting for him. With a light saber candle…

I also made a Bacon Apple Pie which was delicious, but I have figured out how to improve it and will remake it and when it is perfected, I will post pics and a recipe.

Here’s a picture of last night’s pie:

We had a great time with our friends. It was very needed.

Booty Camp is going great. My booty is definitely looking better. Though the weight is hanging on like static cling. That’s okay. It’ll come off…eventually. It better or else.

Okay, that’s about it. Y’all have a great weekend and I’ll do better next week, I promise.

Yeah. It was that good.

Seriously, I had one of the best weekends ever.

Robyn’s little girl turned 13 on Saturday so we decided to surprise her with donuts, balloons and a yard full of decorated pumpkins.

Operation Pumpk’d was a great success!

After our pumpkin shenanigans, we all headed to Chili Fights in the Heights, then back to da Godfodda’s house for some foozball, ribs and beverages.

and lots of smiles.

Yesterday was a John Deere day…probably the last mow of the season. It was a gorgeous day to ride around and I did it with a smile.

Hope y’all had as awesome of a weekend as I did. xoxo

weekend recap (Friday included)

I took a vacation day Friday and enjoyed myself tremendously. Robyn and I walked 3.5 miles at the Big Dam(n) Bridge. And look what we saw:

Yes. that’s the remnants of a beautiful proposal on the river bank that you can see from the bridge. It made our walk just that much more awesome. Grand gestures are the most beautiful gestures of them all.

Robyn and I met up with the HoneyBadgers Friday afternoon for happy hour. The HoneyBadgers are a local running group that meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays before the crack of dawn. I may have to join them one day, just to say I did. Unfortunately, I’m not much of a morning person. But we’ll see…

Saturday was filled with a five-mile walk, lunch with El Jefe, Laura and da GodFodda at Cheers, then an awful Razorback game that I’d love to forget. I also made my homemade mac and cheese and stuffed crab shells. I’m not gonna lie, it was divine. As you can see, it was served on the finest of China.

I would love to claim that I made the stuffed crab shells as well, but in truth, Kroger seafood deli. $1.00 each. I put a pat of butter on the top and bake them at 350 til they are golden brown. DELISH.

The Mac and Cheese recipe I have makes a ton, so I volunteered to take a meal to Arkansas Children’s Hospital for my friends who’s daughter was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma earlier this year. (Read about her here) Usually when I go up there, Bit is sound asleep…but this time she was  awake and full of sunshine. Check us out:

Isn’t she the most adorable little thing you’ve ever seen?

There was also soccer and some gumbo at da GodFodda’s house on Sunday. Check Rader P out:

And there ya have it folks. The important parts of my weekend in a nutshell. Did y’all have a good one? I hope it was as full of friendship and sunshine as mine was.

Year 2

So 2 years ago I went on my first date with a man I had known for 10 years. A man I had worked with and then ended up living next door to for a few months before I moved back to Little Rock.

A man who always made me laugh and always made me very nervous.

I can’t say things have changed very much. 🙂 He still makes me laugh. And he still makes me nervous, but in the best way possible.

This hasn’t been the smoothest year possible. Lots of changes and surprises and stress. But home is where the heart is, and I’m happy to say, our hearts seem to like their new digs…and event though El Jefe is feeling little old and gimped up lately ( 😀 ) he still makes my heart skip a beat when he looks at me.

introducing

A kitteh with no name…

and the newest member of the family at Compound de MelJefe…

Now to think of a name. She’s so itty bitty and scrawny I keep thinking EAT A SANDWICH or possibly CATe Moss. haha She was the runt of her litter and has spent the last two weeks at the vet trying to gain a little weight.

Ruby is very excited about having another cat. The cat, however, does not share in Ruby’s joy just yet. Trin-Trin is very curious but cautious. I think Clementine thought she was a squirrel and licked her lips…

Maybe we should just name her Squirrel.

have you seen my brain lately?

Oh yeah, I probably lost it yesterday somewhere between my car breaking down 3 times and day dreaming about the lake.

Ahh, the lake. Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow…

That’s about all I got today, gang. Everyone sing El Jefe’s praises for jumping my car and driving to hell and back for me 3 TIMES yesterday. And today? He’s buying a new alternator and installing it for me. Because he is awesome.

I think he’s a keeper.

things i’ve learned being at home all week

  • Kathie Lee and Hoda make my brain hurt. DO.NOT.WANT.
  • Ditto for Rachael Ray.
  • I can totally make organic everything, yummy food, plan an imaginary wedding, decorate my imaginary house, and go on a fantasy vacation thanks to a couple of hours spent staring at Pinterest.
  • I despise everything Mitt Romney stands for and it’s going to be hard to keep my mouth shut. And I probably won’t but I’ll try to only use my Tumblr account to spout off about his moronic, hypocritical politics. The ONLY good thing about this election year is that Sarah Palin isn’t involved. Speaking of morons…/political ranting
  • I love talking to El Jefe about everything from plotting my stories to spending our lottery winnings.
  • I wish I could go to work in my pajamas.
  • I used to find Daniel Tosh funny but after his recent “jokes” about rape, I’ve changed my mind. Rape isn’t funny, kid. Grow up.
  • Viacom needs to suck it up and give DirecTV customers access to Comedy Central again. This pissing contest is for the birds.
  • Nancy Grace is a bitch. She has no compassion.
  • Melinda Gates is awesome.
  • Aaron Sorkin has done it again. The Newsroom is one of the best shows on TV right now.
  • I miss my kids even though I’ve been sickly all week. I even miss Rader’s non-stop talking.
