today…

I woke with a helluva headache this morning. I got up at 4:30 a.m., took Rader to football practice, came home and popped some painkillers and slept a little bit more. I was an hour late for work, but thankfully my co-workers are cool. The tardiness was worth it because I am now headache free and to celebrate, I’m wearing my red sundress.

Sorry you can’t see the full dress, but you get the point. I’m smiling. I’m wearing red. All is right in the world.

I’m having to deal with a little bit of pettiness right now and it’s kind of difficult for me because I just don’t understand making big deals out of little things. I mean, sure, I get hormonal on occasion and overreact to little things every once in a while, we all do. But pettiness just to be spiteful? Yeah, I don’t get it. It just makes people seem ugly and small. So I’m doing some mental yoga and moving on, because somebody has to let go…and thankfully because I can, I’ll still be smiling. (See photo as proof). I like being happy on the inside and out. It really does make life so much better. So for today (and everyday that I can manage) this will be my motto:

Isn’t that sunset beautiful? It brings me lots of peace. I took this last year at Lake Ouachita.

I also am a big fan of NEVER LET ANYONE DULL YOUR SPARKLE. Hah! As if…

In other news, my monkey-boy Rader will be a freshman in high school tomorrow. I can’t believe it. And my tree-frog Ian will be a freshman in college next week. Where did the time go?

places to go; people to see

Hoping to arrive in Oxford today just in time for Happy Hour. It will be the happiest hour of all if I get to see you there! Yes you. And even YOU! (sorry…not you though…)

Rader’s BFF still lives there and they haven’t had a chance to nerd out in a while, so after football practice this morning, we’re heading over.

Speaking of football…Check my monkey boy out. Half pads practice this morning. Aw. Why am I being all squishy about this?

OMG. I do have a heart. Shhhhhh. Don’t go spreading those ugly rumors that I’m sentimental and soft. I like it when people think I have no soul. Now, where’s my tissue. I’ve got something watery in my eye.

look out world

I believe life should be lived in color…noisy and full of life. Sometimes it’s hard to do, but it is what I strive to do every day.

No matter how awkward it is, you should always be yourself. If others have a problem with your individuality, then that’s THEIR problem. Let them deal with it however they choose.

I say all this because today, my son registered for high school and I’m now officially a “Rocket Mom”. I hope the other Moms at CHS are ready for me…because I’m not your typical Catholic High mom, that’s for sure. Hell, I’m pretty certain I’m not typical at all…

See you around campus! And at the Pep Rallies, and the football games, and the homecoming dance…and whatever else us Rocket Moms are in charge of. Firing up my jet pack!

hey ho! Let’s go!

Gratuitous lake pics because we are headed there today! Yippee!

Do you recognize this hot blonde? Yep…she’s now a hot red-head…

I still have this rock in my kitchen window…. cool huh?

Do you recognize these 2 kids? Me neither…

Or these 2 kids? Funny a difference 6 years can make. YAY LAKE!

realization

Sometimes reality hits you like a skillet to the face.

I realized yesterday that come August, I will have a Freshman in high school and a Freshman in college. Wow. Where did the time go?

I’m not a big cry-baby momma on first days of school. I got a little choked up when Rader was in Kindergarten and he got on the bus for the very first time. I was pretty teary when Ian graduated High School. But for the most part, I’ve always been sending them off to school with a freedom booty dance.

This year might be a little different. My tree frog and monkey are both big boys now. wow.

I’ll let y’all know if I get verklempt.

Oh. And check this out…

heh. Yep. Gotcha! They see me Rick-rollin’…

If you haven’t been over to HDJM, my Bachelorette Men Tell All recap is up! Go forth and enjoy…

my week in review

Went to Degray with Robyn and her brother and the kids and the dogs. Robyn and I decided to act like kids and ride the water toy behind the boat. This did not end well, but it was extremely fun.

We saw Snow White and the Huntsman. The ending was a little anti-climatic, but I enjoyed the movie…despite Kristen Stewart. Actually, she did well in this movie. She had more than one facial expression and even though she isn’t physically fairer than Charlize Theron (as IF) she did portray Snow White very well. Also, I decided that I would gladly inhale the life force out of all the girls in the kingdom if that meant I would look like Charlize Theron. I would do this without remorse.
And so would you.

Bought Ian an awesome new ride. He’s gonna be rollin’ like a boss in a 1982 Mercedes 300 SD Turbo Diesel. It is a beautiful car that has been treated like a lady for 30 years. Let’s hope this continues… As you can see, he is thrilled. As he should be.

Posted my recap of this week’s Bachelorette at Hey Don’t Judge Me. If you haven’t read it yet, please do. You know I’m funny, right? Also, you can read my recap and not have to watch the show…because I suffer through it for you. This is a terrible sacrifice I’m making, you know. And you should be thankful and gracious and go read my recap. 🙂

Went to dinner with Rader one night and he looked cute so I took his pic. Because I’m that dorky and I still like my kids. Even though they are stinky teenagers who fart in the car with the windows up and think that’s funny.

I had drinks with the girls Wednesday, dinner with a friend Wednesday night, and tonight, I’m going to see Rock of Ages with my girlfriends…and I can’t wait.

It’s been a good week and I’m a very lucky girl.

Hidy Ho!

Boy I’m glad it’s Wednesday! I have a dinner date tonight with two very dear friends and I think it will be a dandy time.

Especially since I’m not the one cooking. 🙂

Speaking of cooking…I grilled some mean chicken last night. Mmmmm. I love grilling on Big Bertha. Charcoal is the only way to go…unfortunately, (or maybe fortunately) when I’m finished grilling, I smell like campfire. I guess the level of goodness depends on how outdoorsy you are. If you like camping, then I was your girl last night. Hah.

Rader is headed out to North Carolina for a soccer tournament. I’m sad I can’t be there, but I know he’s gonna kick some major butt.

Happy Humpday, or Wine Wednesday, or however you choose to celebrate the middle of the week!

Hairmageddon 2012

It was a very emotional day. I don’t think Rader actually realized how hard cutting his hair would be…he was joking and laughing for the first two cuts, and then broke down into horrible, heart-wrenching tears for the last two cuts. I was a bit torn about how to handle it because I didn’t want to cry but when you see your 14 year old mancub breaking down, it’s hard not to join him.

Here’s a picture play-by-play:

He didn’t love his hair at first, but after spending the weekend looking at himself, I think he’s totally smitten now.

Happy Memorial Day, USA! Please take the time to thank a service member for his or her dedication to our freedom.

sing it Alice Cooper!

SCHOOL’S OUT FOR SUMMER!

Well, sorta. School is definitely out for Ian, but Rader has 3 more days. We had his Convocation today…and I would like to proudly announce he received the Presidential Scholar Award for maintaining a 3.5 or higher GPA throughout 6th, 7th & 8th grades. this is the only pic I could get that was worth a damn.

Here we are after the ceremony.

All that hair is gonna be gone on Friday. Snipped, clipped and donated to Locks of Love. He’s thinking about going hardcore short…as in a buzz cut. My heart can’t take the thought of him not having any hair! But it’s his to grow and his to cut and not my place to tell him what he can and can’t do. Apparently he’s supposed to curl it for school tomorrow. His friends are really enjoying this last week of Hairmageddon.

Alrighty then. Tonight is guitar, then tomorrow is the beginning of a very long and awesome weekend. I can’t wait for Friday when I’m spending the day with my boys before spending the evening with my guy. I’ll have new nails, new toes and new hair…surely that means date night, right?

oh happy days

my itty-bitty momma, me, Ian and Rader

I’m a proud momma.

The graduation was standing room only. I ran in front of the stage when Ian’s name was called to get a picture. He didn’t pause for me to take a good one. While I was there, Rader took a pic of me taking a pic of Ian…I’m the red head in the middle. haha

The weekend was busy and tiring, but wonderful.

ION this week is gonna be awesome. I only work 2.5 days…Rader’s 8th Grade Convocation is Wednesday. I have stuff to do on Thursday…and Friday is SPA DAY WITH THE BOYS! (And my niece Taylor who I haven’t seen in a couple of years. I totes can’t wait to hug her neck) Rader is cutting his hair Friday and donating his mane to Locks of Love. I have a much needed hair appt as well…it’s time to amp up my Go-Go Red! and we are all getting pedicures. I’m also gonna get a mani…something I haven’t done in over a decade.
