a nice surprise

Saturday afternoon, I popped over to fishdog’s house to pick up the kids. He wanted to show me he’d cleaned out the storage area (where he had very nicely boxed up all my romance novels in one box). We popped below the house to have a looksy. It was very neat and tidy. Who knew?

Anyway, he’d found my old 35 mm camera (not digital) and thought I might like to take the film to be processed somewhere. (do they still process film? haha) I took the camera and the boys and I went home.

Yesterday I was going through the bag, hoping maybe I’d stashed some cash inside…nope. No cash. But I did find something better…

My coin ring. I’d gotten this as a gift in high school. I always loved my coin ring because it was dainty and feminine…not like the manly rings everyone else had. I was thinking about this ring the other day, as a matter of fact….and look! Here it is! I bet I haven’t seen it in 8 years or more. (I bet when I get my pics developed I’ll be able to figure out exactly the year I last wore it…)

Here it is being modeled by Sarah Jessica Parker’s my Man Hands…
I had a great weekend. Made some new friends at the Fiction Writers of Central Arkansas meeting. I had fun chatting about my journey to publishing and just talking about the industry in general. Then they treated me to a very yummy lunch at Corky’s. I do love their hot BBQ sauce!
Afterward, there was an impromptu gathering on the patio at So. It was just too nice a day to go home…
The half-marathon is this Sunday. I sure hope Team Melf is gonna represent!
BTW: it’s my Monday at Fictionistas…where I ask the question: Who Are You?

staring is the only way

John Clasky: They should name a gender after you. Looking at you doesn’t do it. Staring is the only way that makes any sense. And trying not to blink, so you don’t miss anything. And all of that, and you’re YOU. I mean…
Look, forgive me. It’s just you are DROP DEAD, CRAZY GORGEOUS! So much so that I’m actually considering looking at you again before we finish up here.

Flor Moreno:
Soon, please.

This is from the movie Spanglish. I love this movie because it is filled with extremely flawed characters who struggle to find love and happiness in all the wrong ways. Also, Cloris Leachman is in this movie and I love her like I love oxygen.
————————–

This weekend was fabulous. Friday night I was in bed early. I was exhausted 🙂 and needed my rest because I had to have Rader to his chess tournament by 8:00 Saturday morning.

And I had to have the terrorists kittehs to the clinic by 10:00 so they could get fixed. Saturday afternoon was quite interesting for all of us. Chicken Nugget took losing his nuggets like a champ. He just wanted peace, love and happiness. Clementine and Kitty G didn’t come out of the anesthesia with quite the same attitude. They were totally cage fighting. It was ugly. But by Sunday afternoon we were pretty much back to normal.

Ruby didn’t quite understand why her BFF Chicken Nugget smelled funny. And I’m pretty sure she missed his nuts. This is what she did all Saturday night:

Poor baby. She was just so concerned.

Saturday night I went to a Knight Play Comedy Club for about an hour to see my BFF Jenn Christmas Christman host. She did a bang up job and looked like a million bucks in the process!

and then Sunday afternoon my best pals from college came over for a little Chirstmasy Brunch and some wine and a whole lotta gossip. I mean, catching up. Check out my tree…I’m hoping it will survive the terrorist kitteh attacks through the holidays…

Hope y’all had a great weekend! 12 days left til Christmas. Are you ready?

a monday mel-o-jumble!

Saturday was so pretty and warm, El Jefe and I decided to climb Pinnacle Mountain. I haven’t done this in years…and let me tell you, if I thought my ass hurt after the Death March with Birdrunner on Thursday? Yeah, not-so-much after the climb to the top of Everest Pinnacle. But it was worth it. Check out the view:

After a beautiful day and lovely evening with friends, we woke to frost on Sunday. Bitter, yucky cold. Now, I knew it was coming, but seriously, I just like my warm weather. I’m not a cold weather girl unless there is snow on the ground. And even then, I’m pretty much done with it after two days.

Gimme sun, sand, surf!

In other weekend news, the terrorists kittehs have discovered the red laser. And Kitty G will climb walls to get to it. Hours of entertainment, y’all.

I blogged at Fictionistas today about Holiday music and my lack of Christmas Spirit…but I’m working on it. There is only one song I really wanna hear right now, and here’s my favorite commercial made from that song….

Hope y’all had a good weekend. Not doing my half-marathon training today…but we’ll get back to it tomorrow. I may do my Jillian Michaels DVD tonight, though. That woman can pack a punch in a 20 minute workout. She also scares me a little, so I’m afraid to slack off because I think she knows and can jump out of the TV and yell at me in person.

wrapping up the week

  1. My ass still hurts thanks to the Death March I went on with Birdrunner and Lindy. Yes, it’s self-inflicted. Yes, I’m training to walk half marathon during the Month of Mel. Yes, I’m whiny but hey I’m also really cute and got carded again last night so suck it.
  2. Fishdog took the boys to see Insane Clown Posse last night. I can’t wait to hear about how much Faygo they were sprayed with.
  3. I have a pot roast in the crock pot…mmmmm tonight’s dinner is gonna be yummy.
  4. Did I mention my ass hurts?
  5. Had the best thing happen to me at Kroger last night. The check out lady looked at me and said, “I don’t know what you do for a living, but it has to be creative because you have a beautifully creative soul.” *love love love*
  6. The terrorists kittehs have discovered the counters and the table and are currently in full destruction mode. Getting a squirt bottle tonight.
  7. I’m decorating for Christmas this weekend. Unfortunately, I won’t have a tree in the house because of the terrorists kittehs. Maybe next year.
  8. I’m looking forward to tonight because El Jefe should be waiting for me when I get home. What a great way to start the weekend.
Hope y’all have a great weekend. Stay warm! Ruby sure is….

hello Monday!

A busy weekend was had by all!

Friday night: Dinner and movies with Rader and the pug. We watched the Russell Crow Robin Hood (yummy) and Cop Out (hysterical! also rated R for language, so you probably shouldn’t be the kinda mommy I am and let your 12 year old watch it. LOL) Ian spent the night with a friend so he had his own fun, sans family.

Saturday: endless yard work with both kids. My parents have 6 acres total and we spent 4.5 hours or so with the fall cleaning. Picking up limbs and sticks and blowing leaves and making the burn pile down by the pond GINORMOUS. There’s gonna be a burning soon. You know I love a good burnin!
Saturday night we went to Laura and Mac’s house and watched the Razorback game. Well, Rader watched with us as Ian sat downstairs on the computer telling everyone how “Bored” he was on Facebook or he sat in my car talking on the phone. I love 16 year olds. Don’t you?

Yesterday we shopped, had lunch and then Ian had his first driving lesson. He did really well, too! Hopefully we’ll get this thing down and he’ll be driving and licensed by his 17th birthday in March. I blogged a little about it over at Fictionistas today.

This is gonna be a good week. Tonight I’m attending a local book club who read my book last month. Friday afternoon, I’m headed to Augusta, AR to speak to a book club at the school. And then I’ll be spending a long weekend in Oxford.

Is it Friday yet? 🙂

I haz a new hat! (& also a new snuggie…)

Look what was waiting for me when I arrived at El Jefe’s Friday night:awwwww. Somebody likes me!

This was an incredibly sweet gift considering the Razorbacks were actually playing Ole Miss on Saturday…

Oh yes, I thought it was very sweet…until I opened the wrapped present and discovered my brand new Ole Miss Snuggie. Bwahahahahahahahhahahahaha
Now, to be fair, I had this coming. I sorta kinda have been leaving little Razorback trinkets all over his house every time I visit and then I just wait until he finds them. Like when I got the text “I’m drinking my coffee out of my new Razorback mug.” a couple of weeks ago, which I had left in his dishwasher. It’s a game that makes me laugh…until I get something in return, such as an Ole Miss Snuggie.

I suppose it’s okay though…as long as there is never any photographic evidence of me snuggled up in the snuggie…unlike there is of El Jefe, wearing my Razorback hat…

CLEANish

I spent the weekend cleaning.

THIS is what I pretended I looked like:

This is what I actually looked like:
Minus the smile + a glass bottle of wine.
I’ve been neglecting my house lately which may or may not say much becaue I’m not much of a housekeeper anyway. I’ve adopted the Joan Rivers attitude when it comes to cleaning:

Don’t clean. No man will ever make love to a woman because she waxed the linoleum- “My God, the floor’s immaculate. Lie down, you hot bitch.” ~Joan Rivers

True enough. And if waxing the linoleum (not a euphemism) ever became his idea of foreplay (floor play? bwahahahaha) I’d send him packing anyway. I’m not that chick.
BUT even I have my tipping point when it comes to an unclean very cluttered house, and this weekend I’d reached it. I’m not sure what came over me (I think my clone took over, honestly) but before I knew what was happening, I had a bucket of bleach water, a sponge, and I was on my hands and knees cleaning the floors. (again, not a euphemism, but I suppose it probably could be since I looked “so hot” in my French Maid outfit. *cough*)
I finally gave out last night around 7:30. I still have stuff left to do, and have plans to finish it tonight. Mostly just folding laundry and putting it away. I’m hoping that actually happens, because let’s face it, if the laundry doesn’t get put away, it’s like all that work I did was for nothing because there will be piles and piles of laundry everywhere that we’ll just live off of until it’s all dirty again and then I’ll have to start all over.
Which is why I never clean, because why bother? You’re just gonna have to do it again. And you and I both know that a clean house is a sign of a boring person…and I’m anything but boring.
Hope you had a great weekend!

monday morning blues

Ruby and I were both very sad leaving Oxford in the wee hours this morning. See how forlorn she is? That’s because she left behind all the chewies that she had gathered up around the house since Thursday. The other dogs only THOUGHT those chewies belonged to them. Ruby let them know that without a doubt, they were only holding the chews for her.

The drive home was an easy one (no traffic and great coffee helped with that) I much prefer driving early than late.

Oxford was great this weekend. Friday night El Jefe grilled up some yummy portabella mushrooms with edamame which went really well with my Zolo Malbec. (I can’t find it in Arkansas, so I try to buy a bottle when I go to Oxford. I don’t think it’s sold west of the Mississippi or something!)

The view at night was lovely. The pool is way too cold to swim in now, but it sure is a fabulous backdrop for a nightcap.

Saturday we went to The Burgundy Room and watched both the Razorbacks beat the Aggies and the South Carolina Gamecocks beat Alabama! (sorry Marley, but that made me very happy) Then Saturday night more grill time with a yummy pork tenderloin with chilis and my very yummy mashed taters.

Oh! And while we were on the balcony of the Burgundy Room, we got to see a chick get arrested! (apparently she was beating on her boyfriend a block or so away. The boyfriend was also arrested.) Isn’t public intoxication awesome?

Sunday: Movies, football, beer, naps. Ahhhhhhhhh. Aren’t Sundays the best?

I hope your weekend was as relaxing and wonderful as mine was! Do anything fun or special?

good news; bad news

The good news is, my back is finally almost back to normal! YAY!

The bad news is, I won’t be rockin’ a Hoveround this weekend. Let me show you all the things El Jefe and I had planned to do with the Hoveround:

Go to the moon

Go scuba hover diving

Jousting except with Hoverounds instead of War Birds. (Though we may still do this if we can find some War Birds… How awesome would that be????)

Ride unicorns! Let’s go to Candy Mountain, Charlie!

And last but not least: Finish the damn wars. And then start some new ones.

I know y’all are all happy that my back is better, but aren’t you also slightly disappointed that I won’t be participating in the Hoveround Adventures? I know I am…

Y’all have a great weekend. Not sure I’ll be blogging tomorrow…we’ll see.

pucker up!

1. Those who kiss their partner goodbye each morning live five years longer than those who don’t.

2. Kissing is great for self-esteem. It makes you feel appreciated and helps your state of mind.

3. Kissing burns calories, 2-3 calories a minute and can double your metabolic rate. Research claims that three passionate kisses a day (at least lasting 20 seconds each) will cause you to lose an entire extra pound! It’s time to start that kissing diet!

4. Kissing is a known stress-reliever. Passionate kissing relieves tension, reduces negative energy and produces a sense of well being, lowering your cortisol ‘stress’ hormone.

5. Kissing uses 30 facial muscles and it helps keep the facial muscles tight, preventing baggy cheeks! The tension in the muscles caused by a passionate kiss helps smooth the skin and increases the circulation.

6. Kissing is good for the heart, as it creates an adrenaline which causes your heart to pump more blood around your body.

7. Frequent kissing has scientifically been proven to stabilize cardiovascular activity, decrease blood pressure and cholesterol. Those who kiss quite frequently are less likely to suffer from stomach, bladder and blood infections.

8. During a kiss, natural antibiotics are secreted in the saliva. Also, the saliva contains a type of anesthetic that helps relieve pain.

9. Kissing reduces anxiety and stops the ‘noise’ in your mind. It increases the levels of oxytocin, an extremely calming hormone that produces a feeling of peace.

10. The endorphins produced by kissing are 200 times more powerful than morphine.

Did you kiss anyone this weekend? If so, look at all the good you accomplished!

Weekend Update:
Razorbacks didn’t play this weekend BUT they miraculously were moved up the ranks to #11. (because last weekend’s rankings were pure bollocks and they all know it!)

Friday night El Jefe and I went to see Michael Franti and Spearhead. Great concert! The opening band was a lovely surprise. Tamarama check them out if you’re looking for something new.

I’m thinking I’ll be purchasing their album this week off iTunes. They were infectious dudes and their music is, too.

Hope y’all have a great week and don’t forget to pucker up!
