are you in, or are you out?

Today is the first day of registration for the Little Rock Marathon which is scheduled for March 2, 2014. (unless you do the 5K which is March 1). I’m either going to do the 10K or the Half…I haven’t decided which, yet. The half-marathon is such an accomplishment! I never felt better (or worse) after I finished it a couple of years ago. But…I kind of want to do the 10K because, A: I’ve never done one before and B: I won’t be quite so freaking exhausted by the time it’s over, therefore I can fully enjoy the afterparty without drinking ALL THE BEER to numb the pain.

So, do you want to join TEAM MELF 2014?

Are you in? or Are you out?

Speaking of Project Runway… <–see what I did there?

I’ve had the most fun watching this season so far. OMG. Earth-Conscience Elf Boy is such a trip. He’s horrid! and  they haven’t let him go yet because I guess he makes for good TV. My favorite design didn’t make it to the top 3, but my other 3 favorites, did. And I liked the winning look a lot…El Jefe thought it had a weird “boob” thing going on. He liked Cry Baby Sander’s design the best. And it was sex-on-a-stick, but I didn’t think it would win.

Are you watching this season? I’m not watching on the night it airs, I’m catching up later…but I’m totally into the season. I just hope Earth-Conscience Elf Boy goes home soon. I mean, seriously? You’re on Project Runway. Don’t dig through trash bags to design a dress to go with Millions of Dollars worth of Diamonds. Also, don’t make the dress look like the model is wearing it backwards. Ugh.

Workout Wednesday…

My days of Wine Wednesdays are gone for now. Do I miss them? Well, sure! I miss hanging with my girls on Wednesdays the most…however, I’m really enjoying my workouts, too. And I love the way my body is responding to regaining its fitness.

Yesterday, I added five 30 second sprints throughout my 30 minute run. I read that adding sprints to your runs will actually help you burn an additional 200 calories. It also increases your endurance without increasing your workout time. Since I’m working 7 days a week and it’s still getting dark too early, I can’t do my once-a-week long endurance walk/run. So I have to try to increase my endurance in the shortest amount of time possible.

I’m super-stoked about doing the 1/2 Marathon again.

I was a little disappointed to discover that recording my abdominal workouts on myfitnesspal.com doesn’t actually give me credit for additional calories burned. Hmph. I think if I do 200+ crunches a night, I’m burning some damn calories.

OH! And I think my elbow is healed enough that I can start BootyCamp again! I’m graduating myself from Beginner BootyCamp to Big Girl BootyCamp! I’m stoked. I just have to use light weights in the beginning so as not to re-injure my arm.

This weekend, we finally got a chance to start moving the storm debris down to the burn pile. Them was some heavy branches, let me just tell ya. We tried to move the branches in the front yard with the tractor, but they wouldn’t budge. Next up…a chainsaw.

This tree in the backyard is probably going to have to be completely removed. Sigh. It was such a pretty tree…

What’s going on in your world? Any fun news? Anyone really that concerned that Beyonce lip-synced at the Inauguration? no? Me either. This is NOT news, people, nor is it important.

Oh yeah: My Bachelor Recap is up at Hey Don’t Judge Me.…Go read the crazy and fill your eyes with Shirtless Sean…

sassitude

Yeah. I’m wearing my sassy pants today. And they look GOOD  on me, too.

I love it when I wake feeling sassy. There’s nothing like living your life in color, ya know? And since I’m determined to make 2013 my bitch, I’m in living color every day. (Every day I’m not down with the flu that is. heh)

The LR 1/2 Marathon is about 6 weeks away! I’m really looking forward to it, even though I’ll be worn-smooth-out when it’s over. I am gonna be wearing my Funky Tights and a smile. And possibly a tiara–because, why wouldn’t I? I’m down 10 lbs since the beginning of the year and have hopes to be down another 10 by the marathon.  Go TEAM MELF!

Rader and I had a great dinner last night. We were talking about school and his future and where he might want to go to college. He surprised me when he told me he plans to get a full scholarship to UCLA. Now, don’t get me wrong, I have no doubt that boy can get a full scholarship anywhere he chooses…I was just really surprised to hear he wants to Left Coast it.

It fits him, though. Completely. He’s my little hippie. He’s very much like his momma. Peace, love and laughter seems to be his life’s motto and California would definitely suit him.

My monkey boy. He’s trying to grow up right in front of me.

7 weeks and counting down…

The Little Rock Half-Marathon is in 7 weeks.

Probably I should get off my arse and get busy, huh?

It’ll be a good time. I can’t wait. I gotta order my awesome tights for the marathon. I’m thinking either  Pink Tiger (rowr!) or Tye-Dye Skulls….

Either way, I’ll be awesome.

Speaking of me being awesome, check out my new boots:

These were my Christmas gift from the boys this year. Aren’t they fantabulous?

Let’s see, what else is going on? Nothing but smiles over here. It’s such an amazing feeling when you release the negatives from your life. Too many people need to stir up trouble to make themselves feel better. I used to let that bother me. Now, I just let that bother them. It’s kinda freeing.

I missed Rader this weekend (even though I would have sworn to Pete that I was ready for a break from his chatty-Cathy self). I really enjoy hanging out with my kids. They make me laugh so much. Good thing he’ll be back tonight for non-stop entertainment!

Hope your weekend was a lovely as mine. Sparkle on, my friends!

now what?

So, Ian had 5 teeth removed yesterday. He didn’t feel great last night. Had a long night, but the meds helped. He was fun to watch, I’m not gonna lie.

He ate Ramen for breakfast today, and seems happy. Looks like life is getting back to normal.

Since I’m home today, I am in charge of deChristmasing the house. I really don’t want to…mainly because I hate packing the holiday up. However, this house is tiny, and we need every ounce of space available. So we say goodbye to the Pimp Tree and the Flamingo tree and all the other holiday awesome in this place.

I’m heading to the gym today, too. Remember how I was doing bootycamp and loving it, but I had this awful elbow pain? Guess who has tennis elbow and hasn’t played tennis since college? Yes. Me. Ugh. And let me tell you, that shit is painful. They should call it something like JACKHAMMERING RAILROAD SPIKES ELBOW.  Tennis elbow sounds so benign. I can’t even squeeze a tube of toothpaste with my left hand without wincing in pain. WTF?

I have an appointment with a chiropractor next week and have high hopes we’ll be able to realign my cranky neck and shoulders and fix this freaking messed up tendon and muscle situation. I have plans to rejoin bootycamp in February, and have the half-marathon in March..so here goes nothing. At least I can walk/run without worrying about the elbow. I just can’t weight train right now.

Now what? It’s 2013. Jefe and I are both working. The kids are happy. We’re happy. Life is good. Now let’s just get my elbow fixed so I can squeeze the toothpaste and open the car door again.

bringing sexy back

One day at a time. Man, why can’t cheese dip make me lose weight?

Bootcamp starts tonight. El Jefe thinks he should go to throw rocks at me, you know, for motivation. haha. I’m thinking I don’t really need the assistance.

I’m at FCR today, talking about the Little Rock Half Marathon.

I’m looking forward to adding to my medals…I’m hoping it’s made of cheese and awesome.

committed. as in, i should be committed…

Oops, I did it again.

I’ve committed to doing the LR Half Marathon in 2013. It’s good to have a goal, right? It’s also good to have a support system in place. People who will root for you and kick your ass when you start slacking. So I started a TEAM MELF group on Facebook. It’s a private group and not everyone is going to train for this specific event, but everyone who is a member has a goal of their own in mind.

Ugh. I mean, Yay!

I’m starting slow. I have a 12 week build-up schedule that I’m going to do then I’ll start following the actual 1/2 marathon training schedule. It’ll be fun, right?

2011: Month of Mel Day 10 (and soon to be the Day of Ralph)

Look! Official proof I finished the half-marathon!

There are other pictures and even a video clip of me “running” across the finish line. Painful to watch. But hey, the goal was to finish…not finish with style. Hah!

Now onto the fun stuff! My friends Sara & Jim are somewhere in the ATL birfin’ a baby Ralphasaurus today! C’mon into the world, Ralph. There are loads of Aunties and Uncles who can’t wait to meet you!

I love sharing my month with very awesome people. And babies who are being born to awesome people. (who will naturally grow up to be awesome.)

Happy soon to be birthday, Ralph!

In other news, here’s what I’ve decided to give up for Lent:

Who’s with me?

2011: Month of Mel Day(s) 4,5,6,& 7

So, here’s the thing. I haven’t seen El Jefe in 3 weeks. He was in town Thursday afternoon. I didn’t blog Friday… so deal with it. If I had blogged, it would have gone something like this:

Month of Mel Day 4:

In 1900 my Mema was born today. She was awesome. I miss her and her fried pies.

I haven’t seen El Jefe in 3 weeks and I’ve missed him like I would miss oxygen a little bit. He got me an iPad for my birthday. Let’s all pay homage to El Jefe because he is awesome.

(this is where we pay homage. Do It.)

Saturday

Month of Mel Day 5:

Saturday we went to see Jenn C. do her emcee thing at Electric Cowboy. She was really funny and looked beautiful…I wanted to ride the electric Bull but couldn’t because I was afraid something would go wrong and I wouldn’t be able to do my Sunday event…

Sunday:

Damn. 5:00 A.M. comes really effin early. Just sayin. I needed to get El Jefe to the airport in the 6:00 A.M. range–then I had to get to the River Market to walk/run that half marathon that was a really good idea a few months ago.

My untrained goal was to finish at 3:30. My walking partner, Eric and I finished at 3:25:09. As far as I am concerned, this was a big win.

Here’s Team Melf:
Lindy, Me, Eric, Robyn
Me and Robyn after we finished. We are totally celebrating. As we should be.
And here is my official stuff. I . Am . Awesome . If you don’t think so, then you suck.

I came home with a couple of souvenirs…and I’m not talking about my medal and MELF shirt

Yes that’s a 2 blister, blister. Awesome.

I’m happy. and proud. and so glad it’s over.

Today is Monday. If I’m not at work, now you know why…

a nice surprise

Saturday afternoon, I popped over to fishdog’s house to pick up the kids. He wanted to show me he’d cleaned out the storage area (where he had very nicely boxed up all my romance novels in one box). We popped below the house to have a looksy. It was very neat and tidy. Who knew?

Anyway, he’d found my old 35 mm camera (not digital) and thought I might like to take the film to be processed somewhere. (do they still process film? haha) I took the camera and the boys and I went home.

Yesterday I was going through the bag, hoping maybe I’d stashed some cash inside…nope. No cash. But I did find something better…

My coin ring. I’d gotten this as a gift in high school. I always loved my coin ring because it was dainty and feminine…not like the manly rings everyone else had. I was thinking about this ring the other day, as a matter of fact….and look! Here it is! I bet I haven’t seen it in 8 years or more. (I bet when I get my pics developed I’ll be able to figure out exactly the year I last wore it…)

Here it is being modeled by Sarah Jessica Parker’s my Man Hands…
I had a great weekend. Made some new friends at the Fiction Writers of Central Arkansas meeting. I had fun chatting about my journey to publishing and just talking about the industry in general. Then they treated me to a very yummy lunch at Corky’s. I do love their hot BBQ sauce!
Afterward, there was an impromptu gathering on the patio at So. It was just too nice a day to go home…
The half-marathon is this Sunday. I sure hope Team Melf is gonna represent!
BTW: it’s my Monday at Fictionistas…where I ask the question: Who Are You?
