Happy Thursday

I’m in a great mood today. Rader Tater made the JROTC Drill Team at school. This is awesome, as not a lot of freshmen are invited to try out. What isn’t awesome? Having to get him to school before 7:00 a.m.

But my parental proudness outweighs my general early morning crankiness…so today is an epic win.

I’ve been really happy lately. I feel great about getting back to me… when I turned 40, I was really exercising and focusing on feeling good about myself. It was a process I started when we lived in Oxford…not long after our home renovations were done, and I was working for someone who made me miserable, plus the marriage was starting to unravel and I was in denial about it. So I started exercising and trying to lose the 50lbs of security blanket I had added to my body. It’s amazing how just adding a 2 mile walk a few days a week to my life made me feel much better about myself.

Recently, I’ve had some personal issues pop up that haven’t been fun. I made peace with them, apologized for my part, and moved on. And wow, how good does it feel to be at peace…and to be able to focus on the positive again. Bootcamp is going great. My butt is looking better than ever! (I saw you looking. It’s okay.) The boys are happy at home, we laugh every night and every morning. (Although, I’m not gonna lie…I’d love JUST ONCE to take Rader to school and not have to talk about farts. This morning’s conversation? “Mom. I had the WEIRDEST fart yesterday.”)

I’m in control of my own happiness. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it. I’m so pleased with where my life is right now. Sure, there are aspects of it that could use a little nudge in a different direction, but damn, focusing on the negative just gives you wrinkles. And a bad outlook on life.

So…in light of the “thankfulness” theme going on right now…I’m so thankful for my family. And that includes my dear friends. I am so lucky to have two wonderful boys with fantastic senses of humor and who still kiss me goodnight before they go to bed every night. I am thankful for the wonderful man in my life who loves me despite my glaring flaws and who forgives me when I’m stupid. And who laughs at my jokes, even when they aren’t funny (which is rare, because as you all know, I’m VERY funny). I’m thankful for forgiveness…and the ability to learn from my mistakes and move on. I’m so thankful I’m healthy and happy. Life could be so much worse.

And with that. Happy Thursday. Life is good. Go forth and share a smile today.

Forward. HO!

Yes, the election is over. Yes. I’m pleased with the results…but the reality is, if things had gone the other way, I’d be all right, too. (Unless I wanted to make a very important decision about my body…)

Anyhoo… Yay that the Rape Idiots didn’t get reelected. Good Grief. Yay for women who soundly told our country that we deserve the same pay and full control over our own bodies.

The only 1950s we get to live in, is in our pin up girl fantasies! And that’s the way it ought to be. (I’ll be right back, I need to go make you a sammich.)

And yay for President Barack Obama and his family. Go forth and continue to rebuild from the mess you were handed.

I’ve been extremely disappointed in my Facebook newsfeed lately. I welcome dissenting opinions, but I do not tolerate racism, hate or rhetoric. I woke this morning to see a couple of my ‘friends’ posting “Welcome to Muslim America’  and “Well of course he got voted in, everyone loves getting freebies.”

Really? Come on. Educate yourself. Don’t spread hate and rhetoric and untruths. Damn. So this is my status today.

If you truly believe that Obama is a Socialist, a Muslim, if you’re still looking for his birth certificate, or if you’re posting racist hate and rhetoric on your page, please just unfriend me now. This is a democracy. The people have spoken and they have spoken loudly. If I survived 8 years of Dubya (barely) then I promise, you will survive 8 years of Obama. These are not the darkest days. This is not the end of the world. I have been looking for signs of the apocalypse, and I’m pretty sure we’re safe. There’s no excuse to post hate. Respect the process and let love rule.

Seriously, we’ve all made mistakes, we all don’t like something about someone. We all disagree with different government policies, but to be hateful? To spread lies and encourage racism? Just not something I want to be around and certainly not something I want kids to see. So I’ve unfriended a few folks and I posted this and asked people to unfriend me. And I’m okay with it if you do. You have the right to your beliefs, but I’d appreciate it if you’d just keep them off my newsfeed because I don’t really want to hang out with someone who won’t bother to educate themselves with facts and who hates because of race, gender, or sexuality. Now. Go forth and love someone today.

speak now….

That’s right. Vote.

Use your voice.

Be heard.

And then when it’s all over, STFU and live with it because we all have a voice…and once that voice is spoken, we have 4 years….and yes, I’m even talking to myself.

Thankfully, I won’t have to follow my own advice…GO OBAMA! 🙂

Either way, Team America! Fuck yeah!

Mayor Bloomberg, from his endorsement for President:

“When I step into the voting booth, I think about the world I want to leave my two daughters, and the values that are required to guide us there. The two parties’ nominees for president offer different visions of where they want to lead America.

One believes a woman’s right to choose should be protected for future generations; one does not. That difference, given the likelihood of Supreme Court vacancies, weighs heavily on my decision.

One recognizes marriage equality as consistent with America’s march of freedom; one does not. I want our president to be on the right side of history.

One sees climate change as an urgent problem that threatens our planet; one does not. I want our president to place scientific evidence and risk management above electoral politics.”

I’ll admit, whatever happens, I’m ready for the election to be over. I do believe that we’ll get 4 more years of Obama. But if we don’t, I’ll survive…just like I survived the Dubya Era. Man, Hillary…please tell me you’re gonna run for 2016? PLEASE!?!

In other news, we’re gonna be having a giant multi-family yard sale at the Compound tomorrow. It’s gonna be a long night and long day. Probably there will be Bailey’s in my coffee in the morning. If you stop by, you’ll get a special discount if you bring me a Bloody Mary!

Halloween Recap. A Birthday. A Request.

Last night was fun.

Don’t worry, we only fed on the flesh of those who dared to Trick or Treat without a costume.
Today is Maria Geraci’s birthday! I’m not gonna tell you how old she is, but I will tell you I will always be younger than her by a decade. 😀 I love you, amiga!

And now for a serious request. Any love, light, happy thoughts or prayers you can send up for Princess Purple would be great. She’s undergoing major surgery today. Be Strong, Bit! Princess Pink is sending you all sorts of sparkle today!

Happy MELoween

I’m putting together my costume this afternoon, so while I’m at work, I’m dressed up as Awesome. Which I know is my everyday uniform, but until I get my Slutty Zombie (rolling eyes) costume completed, Being Awesome will have to do.

As I do every year, here’s a stroll down MELoween’s past.

There will be pics tomorrow of tonight’s costume. Don’t worry…I would never let you down…. Until then, my black widow sweatshirt will have to serve as a place holder.

my reasons

Okay, I have a lot (and I mean A LOT) of conservative friends. Many of them are socially liberal and fiscally conservative.

Yesterday, one of my dear friends from high school started to tease me on my Facebook Status that it was a sign that it was time for me to join the republican party.

Then another friend chimed in…and it was all in good fun and we had a great time teasing each other. Finally one of my friends asked me what was so scary about Mitt Romney. (which, I’ll admit, seems pretty obvious to me) and I asked him if he really wanted to know why I was voting for Obama over Romney. (btw, my next choice is Jill Stein…the Green Party Candidate…) I said that I would happily answer as long as they really wanted to know and as long as it didn’t turn into a battle of trying to change each others’ minds…because let’s face it, that rarely happens.

So I answered them…and I thought I’d share my answer with you….

Romney has forgotten what his true stance is on Women’s rights in regards to birth control, abortion and universal healthcare. Up until he ran for president, he was quite moderate and could have possibly been a choice I would consider. I can not consider him a viable candidate since he’s now only willing to serve his Borg Master as oppose to run on his own core beliefs. McCain did the same thing. Had McCain gotten the nom instead of Dubya, I would have voted for him because he was moderate…which is why he didn’t get nominated. Then when he ran against Obama, he just became the puppet to the Republican party (who was pandering to the Tea Party) and completely ignored everything he once believed in. That’s just not okay with me. It seems to me that we are dangerously close to taking a giant step back when it comes to Women’s rights. Romney won’t even say he would have signed the Lily Ledbetter act! I mean, seriously? He won’t overturn it, sure. But had he been president, it looks like he wouldn’t have signed it. Women seem to be a lesser entity…only good for making breakfast and making babies.

The idea of ‘smaller’ government that the party discusses is laughable! I mean, if they want less government, then why won’t they get out of my body? If they want less government, then why are they blaming Obama’s adminstration for not doing enough for the country. You can’t say you want less government then blame the government for not doing enough.

I am in favor of the DREAM act…which allows children brought illegally into the US to be exempted from deportation and granted work permits and to seek higher education. This can only help America. They can join our military and fight for our country and I think this is a humane and just thing to do for these kids who were brought here for a better life by parents who risked everything to give their kids something they couldn’t give them legally. Romney just wants to deport everyone. He opposes allowing them amnesty for college but hey, he’d let them fight and die for our country. He has no compassion.

Romney was all for stricter gun laws in 2004 when he signed a ban on assult weapons in Massachusettes. Funny how he’s changed his mind on that. Assault weapons should be regulated. I am for the right to bear arms…100%, but something has to be done about assault weapons.

Obama wants to change the requirements left over from that POS No Child Left Behind… It is a joke and has done nothing but hurt our educational system. Guess who supports it? Romney. He thinks teaching to test is awesome!

Obama is for civil rights for all humans. Health care, marriage rights, and benefits to same-sex couples. Romney isn’t…of course.

I have a real problem with Romney’s tax plan…the one he won’t tell us about. I have an issue with the trickle down theory that the party pushes, especially since that doesn’t work…we’ve seen that in the past and if he’s mirroring Dubya’s plan, that’s what got us where we are now! Also, he’s all about less regulation…well considering how that worked out when Dubya deregulated the banking industry, I’m thinking this is not the best of ideas. Especially since that deregulation cost me my house, my savings, and other things.

Most of all, I believe God should be left out of politics. Our country was formed for the purpose of religious freedom. The separation of Church and State is in place for a reason. All religions should be welcomed and celebrated in our nation, not just the Christian religion…and I can NOT in good conscience vote for any party that does not stand up and fight against the statement that “Rape is the will of God.” Sorry gang. Until they become more like the original republican party, they will never get my vote.

And end political soap box.

And there you have it. I’m always going to vote my social conscience over money. Everyone has their reasons for voting the way they do…and this is mine. No matter how you vote…just get out there and do it!

I feel good!

So despite some VERY disturbing dreams last night, I woke today well-rested and in a fantastic mood.

I won’t go into details about my dreams because they were just too disturbing, however, after looking up the interpretation of some of the more haunting symbols, I feel much better. MUCH.

This morning was perfect for coffee and doggies. I had the cool house to myself for about an hour this morning. Everyone else was deep in sleep and I sat on the couch in the dim light and enjoyed the cool breeze and steady rain. I had doggies at my feet, coffee in my cup and Little-Itty-Bitty behind the couch giving the Chimay cork about 10 kinds of hell. it was perfect.

Okay, bitches. Y’all have a great weekend. I hope you plan to snuggle up and enjoy this first burst of cool air! And get busy on your Halloween costumes! I want a full report next week.

a Mel-O-Jumble

Bootcamp was great last night. My legs are definitely getting stronger as is my core. Our trainer, Marietta, is offering a 5:00 a.m. yoga class starting next week that I’d really like to do, but I’m afraid I can’t get my butt up and get there that early.

However, I think I’m gonna give it a go. It’s once a week for 4 weeks. I’m a big girl. I can do it. I’ll just put my grown up pants on and get out of bed. (What that really means is, I’ll just sleep in my yoga clothes, roll out of bed and head to the gym half awake.)

Arkansas plays Ole Miss this weekend here in Little Rock. If any of y’all are headed here from Oxford, give me a shout. Jefe and I are probably gonna hit the tailgating early. I have to have Rader at the stadium by 6:30 a.m. to assist the parking. It’s an early game, so I’m thinking there will be a lot of solo cups full of bloody maries and mimosas!

Halloween is next week! I keep getting costume emails. Why do these costume stores think ALL women want to go as “SWAT Hottie” or Sexy WHATEVER. Ugh. My new favorite? Sexy Bat.

Someone in my family used to say “People who dress as the slutty witch for Halloween, are just slutty and the holiday just gives them an excuse to flaunt it.”

Thankfully I’m okay with being sexy year around. This year, I just want to wear a fun wig and makeup. My sexiness is natural, enhancing it with such a costume might cause a rift between universes. I can’t be responsible for that.

Though I will admit that it might be a lot of fun to be a slutty big bird….Feathers and fishnets OH MY!

Whatever you decide to be for Halloween, wear it well. And if you decide to be a slutty bat this year, please stop by the PartyHood so I can see it! Warning, I will judge you based on the advertisement. You better have the rack to fill that top! I wanna see your tits plunging forward and giving people black eyes!
