ready or not…

It’s Friday! and by the time you read this, I’ll be on my way to Augusta, AR to have a little chat with the high school book club.

Word on the street is they loved BITE ME! and are ready to read LOVE SUCKS!

This makes Melf very happy.

After my chat I’m heading to Oxford to hang with El Jefe for the weekend. It’s his birthday weekend, ya know.

Oh and guess what? Next Friday, I’ll be watching the Neon Trees live and in person! I can’t wait…

digging up the past

My statcounter has been really interesting lately. A fairly new reader from Arkansas has been digging through my archives on a weekly basis. I’m glad someone is enjoying my blog so much they want to read my archives! Of course, seeing all the links this person clicked made me wanna dig through them again, too.

Aw. My kids were so cute.

Here are some of my favorite blogs that I’ve found so far:

September 2005

A Rader Blog: If it’s green; it matches

An Ian Blog: Laugh or cry?

An Everybody Blog: On Farts and Billy Ray Cyrus

October 2005:

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Looking for Laughter

Some of my Favorite Things

How fun it was to go back through some of my older posts. Life has changed a lot since then, but the happy memories are fresh again. Thanks for the reminder!

Maybe I’ll post some random links to some archived blogs each week. I’m especially enjoying how different the kids look!

Happy Friday! I’ve got a big weekend planned with just the boys. Yardwork, movies, Hog Game, and lots of hanging out and I’m sure laughter. Because they do make me laugh all the time.

Random pics of the day:

I figured since I was digging up the past today, I’d show you guys some pics I took in 2006. These are from my neighborhood in Oxford on a brisk fall morning.

Y’all have a fabulous weekend!

monday morning blues

Ruby and I were both very sad leaving Oxford in the wee hours this morning. See how forlorn she is? That’s because she left behind all the chewies that she had gathered up around the house since Thursday. The other dogs only THOUGHT those chewies belonged to them. Ruby let them know that without a doubt, they were only holding the chews for her.

The drive home was an easy one (no traffic and great coffee helped with that) I much prefer driving early than late.

Oxford was great this weekend. Friday night El Jefe grilled up some yummy portabella mushrooms with edamame which went really well with my Zolo Malbec. (I can’t find it in Arkansas, so I try to buy a bottle when I go to Oxford. I don’t think it’s sold west of the Mississippi or something!)

The view at night was lovely. The pool is way too cold to swim in now, but it sure is a fabulous backdrop for a nightcap.

Saturday we went to The Burgundy Room and watched both the Razorbacks beat the Aggies and the South Carolina Gamecocks beat Alabama! (sorry Marley, but that made me very happy) Then Saturday night more grill time with a yummy pork tenderloin with chilis and my very yummy mashed taters.

Oh! And while we were on the balcony of the Burgundy Room, we got to see a chick get arrested! (apparently she was beating on her boyfriend a block or so away. The boyfriend was also arrested.) Isn’t public intoxication awesome?

Sunday: Movies, football, beer, naps. Ahhhhhhhhh. Aren’t Sundays the best?

I hope your weekend was as relaxing and wonderful as mine was! Do anything fun or special?

good news; bad news

The good news is, my back is finally almost back to normal! YAY!

The bad news is, I won’t be rockin’ a Hoveround this weekend. Let me show you all the things El Jefe and I had planned to do with the Hoveround:

Go to the moon

Go scuba hover diving

Jousting except with Hoverounds instead of War Birds. (Though we may still do this if we can find some War Birds… How awesome would that be????)

Ride unicorns! Let’s go to Candy Mountain, Charlie!

And last but not least: Finish the damn wars. And then start some new ones.

I know y’all are all happy that my back is better, but aren’t you also slightly disappointed that I won’t be participating in the Hoveround Adventures? I know I am…

Y’all have a great weekend. Not sure I’ll be blogging tomorrow…we’ll see.

I heart halloween

I love Halloween. It’s the best holiday on earth! And I’ve already started working on this year’s costume…

Here’s a hint:

Any guesses as to who I’m going to be this year?

Have a great weekend, ya’ll! If you’re in Oxford, come to Square Books, Jr. today at 5:00 to see me!!!

tomorrow, tomorrow! I’ll see Oxford, tomorrow!

IT’S ONLY A DAY AWAY!

When: Friday, September 17 (tomorrow)
Where: Square Books, Jr.
Time: 5:00
Who: ME!

Please come see me!

I had the best time with one of my pals, Stacey Jay last year. We signed books, drank wine, signed more books, drank more wine…

Wait. Anyone beginning to see a pattern here? I LOVE SIGNING BOOKS!

I can’t wait to see you guys tomorrow. It’s gonna be a big time full of sparkly goodness.

In other bits of random…

I was checking my website stats and seriously, somebody in Boulder, CO googled I HATE MELISSA FRANCIS. That’s just mean and hurtful, yo. I’m good people. Don’t be hatin’ on me!

I’ve also had some weird search terms on my website search bar. Like one day a month or so ago, someone just kept searching for KILL and HATE.

So this is what my report looked like:

08:17:30 2010 Kill
08:17:28 2010 Kill
08:17:23 2010 Kill
08:17:22 2010 Kill
08:17:16 2010 Kill
08:16:24 2010 Kill
08:15:46 2010 Kill
08:15:10 2010 Kill
08:14:31 2010 Kill
08:11:35 2010 hate
08:11:34 2010 hate
08:11:31 2010 hate
08:11:30 2010 hate
08:11:29 2010 hate

dudes. Seriously. That’s just not nice! I don’t blog about killing and hate so why are you searching for them? Also, I know people and I know things. And I know people who know things about people. So, watch it. mmmkay? This is my sandbox. Don’t throw sand at me in my own box!!! Besides, I’m all friendly, and sparkly, and fun to play with. Haters are not allowed.

And in Kitteh news. 2 are promised (Charlie Chaplin and Kitteh G) and 2 are maybes (the boys) but my kids wanna keep one of the boys, so I’m not sure what we’re gonna do about that.

I probably will be scarce tomorrow. If I think about it, I’ll pre-post a blog. But I may not think about it. We’ll see.

Have a great weekend if I don’t catch ya mañana!

need a weekend to recover from…

my weekend AND that joke of an interview with Jake and Vienna.

Weekend first:

Drove the kidlets to Oxford. I always go the back way because it ends up being quicker than going through Memphis because 9 out of 10 times, there’s some kind of accident or construction or just stupidity that brings the traffic to a stand still.

Also, I love farmlands and the character of the country. Especially when I see things like this:

This is the most politically and grammatically incorrect street sign I have ever seen. And I ♥ it soooooo much. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Then I passed by the Cougar Cafe: Hot Mamas & Cold Drinks

Unfortunately I did not get a picture of that and I haven’t forgiven myself yet. I will tell you, that might end up in a book somewhere…

After a yummy lunch at Proud Larry’s (the service is still a little slow, but they have the best pizza and salads so I deal with it) I dropped the boys off with their friends and headed out to a pool party. It was great seeing my friends again. Afterward, me and Andrea made our way to the square where we had a VERY DELICIOSO pineapple margarita at Prime.

After our pineapple yumminess we headed over to Rooster’s Blues House and sat outside where we enjoyed the company of a lovely couple as well as the company of our beers. I was excited to see Rooster’s carried Diamond Bear Pale Ale which is brewed right here in Little Rock.

Sunday I had planned to drive home, but made a ‘quick’ detour to Water Valley, MS so I could visit my pal Rhonda. Rhonda has a pool. Mel’s quick visit turned into 24 hours. Rhonda’s pool called me like a siren. I was trapped and couldn’t free myself so I just gave in…

It was a great weekend. I miss my Oxford peeps!

JAKE AND VIENNA

Look none of us were surprised Jake and Vienna broke up. (Well, none of us except maybe the host of the show Chris Harrison…) None of us are surprised she’s emotional and slightly unstable. But you know what did surprise me? What a freaking controlling asshole Jake is! And that smirk! Holy smokes! What I took away from the interview was that Jake wanted a girl who was quiet and compliant in real life…maybe he should’ve chosen Tetley Teabag instead of Vienna Sausage then… I do think he’s a big ol’ fame whore like Vienna said. I think he would turn on the charm for the cameras then when they were home, he would turn into what we saw last night. I’m not her biggest fan, but I will say, I believe her side of the story MUCH more than his. Because he is a douchebag.

So how was your weekend? Did you see the interview? What were your thoughts?

how did that happen?

Can someone please tell me how it became July? I mean, I swear it was just January! Now the year is half over? And soon (25 days) LOVE SUCKS! will actually be on the shelves!

Really?

(BTW, both BITE ME! and LOVE SUCKS! will also be available on Kindle…)

Can someone else please explain why I always and WITHOUT FAIL burn the roof of my mouth when I cook microwave pizza? (We will not discuss the fact that said microwave pizza was this morning’s breakfast.) Now I have a lovely blister that I won’t leave alone.

BTW, if you ask me about my books and want to know if my vampires sparkle, this is the answer I’m going to give you: I sparkle, my vampires do not.

Hey Oxford! Are you ready for some Melf sparkle?

it’s wine wednesday!

Oh Kim Cattrall Crawford, how I love thee…

today is gonna be a good day. Any day that ends with a glass of Kim Cattrall Crawford and good friends, is a great day. Plus it’s much cooler today with little humidity so we might end up on the patio….

Oh, 1 more thing…Dear Oxford, see you Saturday!! That’s right, the prodigal Mel will be in town for 1 night only…so get ready… I believe we’re going out Saturday night, so if you’re in town, give us a shout and we’ll let you know where we’re gonna be.

Can’t wait.

it is done. Definitely.

August 2007 we put our house in Oxford on the market. It was a lovely house. We’d renovated it, worked on it, loved it…we hired a girl who was a part-time Realtor (didn’t know that at the time) and a single mom of two. I personally thought she’d be a go getter.

She overpriced our home and didn’t sell it. Once a house has been marked as overpriced, it’s really hard to get people to look at it, even when you reprice it to right number. Another Realtor and a year later, we finally took it off the market and rented it for 6 months.

This time around, we made a much better choice. Our house sold in 3 months and even though we didn’t come out ahead (how could we after 2 years?) we now no longer own a home in Oxford, Miss.

I will miss that house (especially my awesome kitchen) but I said goodbye to it a long time ago. Now it’s someone else’s home. I hope they love it as much as we did.
