Mayor Bloomberg, from his endorsement for President:

“When I step into the voting booth, I think about the world I want to leave my two daughters, and the values that are required to guide us there. The two parties’ nominees for president offer different visions of where they want to lead America.

One believes a woman’s right to choose should be protected for future generations; one does not. That difference, given the likelihood of Supreme Court vacancies, weighs heavily on my decision.

One recognizes marriage equality as consistent with America’s march of freedom; one does not. I want our president to be on the right side of history.

One sees climate change as an urgent problem that threatens our planet; one does not. I want our president to place scientific evidence and risk management above electoral politics.”

I’ll admit, whatever happens, I’m ready for the election to be over. I do believe that we’ll get 4 more years of Obama. But if we don’t, I’ll survive…just like I survived the Dubya Era. Man, Hillary…please tell me you’re gonna run for 2016? PLEASE!?!

In other news, we’re gonna be having a giant multi-family yard sale at the Compound tomorrow. It’s gonna be a long night and long day. Probably there will be Bailey’s in my coffee in the morning. If you stop by, you’ll get a special discount if you bring me a Bloody Mary!

Your wish is my command.

My birthday twin, Beth, has commanded that I write my weekend recap because she needs some brain candy.

Well, far be it from me to disappoint her.

Though I’m afraid this blog may be more brain fluff than brain candy. Would that make it brain cotton candy? That’s not a bad thing…

OK, first off on Friday, my cousin posted this picture of me to Facebook. HAH! This pic currently graces my mother’s hall wall. My friends say it looks just like me. I disagree. But here, you decide.

hehehehe. I was a cutie. Of course, I cut my bangs the day before this picture was taken, so mom had to take me for an emergency hair cut…that’s why my forehead looks giant. haha I wasn’t quite 3 years old here. And that puppy had seen many better days…

Saturday morning I drove Rader to meet the soccer carpool since his game was 3 hours away. BTW, I don’t like 8:00 on Saturday mornings. However, I decided I’d make the best of being vertical that early so I went to Two Rivers Bridge to walk…only to find out it was closed for a bike race. I decided to go to Pinnacle Mountain and walk the base trail. It was a beautiful cool overcast morning and perfect for a hike.

It was also perfect for the pterodactyl-sized mosquitoes to feed on me til I was too weak to move. They also tried to carry me off to their nest where they were gonna feed me to their young. Holy Crap I have never been swarmed like that before. Was crazy. I did hike 1.5 miles before I called it quits. I also got to see this really giant uprooted tree:

Then I returned to the Compound where El Jefe and I mowed and cleaned up after the last wreck in our yard. You know, where the dude took out my giant forsythia and left half of his front end in my front yard? Yeah, it was finally time to mow, so that shit had to go. I should have made him come back and clean it up. Jerk-wad.

I believe this may have been my last date with John Deere for the season…. I’m gonna miss his sweet rides.

Sunday I made another Pinterest recipe that turned out pretty good. They sure looked pretty and they were definitely tasty. They’ll make a great brunch item for the holidays I think.

They’re pretty much bacon-wrapped quiches. You make them in a muffin tin.

And finally, I spent yesterday hanging with Rader P.  I walked in the morning and then he and I watched a friend of his from Oxford play soccer. Her team won the tournament and ironically, her father works for the same company I used to work for when I lived there. Small world huh? Also check out my kid and how damn cute he is…

after the game, we went to the PartyHood where Robyn grilled us some burgers then we went to the GodFodda’s house and hung out until it was time to go to Rader’s game….It was a good afternoon and a great weekend. And with that, I leave you with this moment of zen.

My friend Bill hanging with Robyn’s three-legged cocker spaniel. Her name is Lovey but I call her Lambchop.

Hope your weekend was as awesome (and less tiring) as mine! Now let’s kick Monday in the ass and sparkle hard today!

Yesterday, around 2:00, a Drunky McDrunkDrunk missed the curve going about 70 mph, did a General Lee ramping move over my driveway, and took out my giant (and beautiful) forsythia bush. I had been planning to trim it back, but…not this much.

He tried to assist me further with my landscaping by spreading my forsythia all over the yard.

He landed with a giant thud on my neighbors tree. Which is a good thing, because he was headed straight for a building.

He was being followed by his grandson who was trying to stop him from driving. Apparently, he ran out of booze and was headed to the County Line…about a mile from our house.

BTW, nobody was hurt. Except my forsythia….

In other, much more positive news, I’ve revived my old exercise blog: Fat Chicks Running. I signed up for a 5 week boot camp that starts tomorrow and I figure I’ll be doing a lot of kvetching while I bring the sexy back. Hope you’ll drop by and enjoy the show.

Year 2

So 2 years ago I went on my first date with a man I had known for 10 years. A man I had worked with and then ended up living next door to for a few months before I moved back to Little Rock.

A man who always made me laugh and always made me very nervous.

I can’t say things have changed very much. 🙂 He still makes me laugh. And he still makes me nervous, but in the best way possible.

This hasn’t been the smoothest year possible. Lots of changes and surprises and stress. But home is where the heart is, and I’m happy to say, our hearts seem to like their new digs…and event though El Jefe is feeling little old and gimped up lately ( 😀 ) he still makes my heart skip a beat when he looks at me.

burn baby burn and other stuff

It’s Tuesday. It feels like Monday. Probably because I spent the entire weekend working my ass off. Or at least Sunday & Monday I did…

We’ve been under a burn ban since May, so when Isaac rolled through last week, the ban was officially lifted and I officially got busy.

Sunday afternoon, I stopped by my friend Lori’s house for some lasagna and Bellinis. Yum. And for a little reminiscing… She apparently just put together some old photo albums from our college years and thereafter…. Check out this beauty.

I believe this was the luau we had at our friend Dave’s house. This was actually between babies…I’m pretty sure summer of 96 or 97.  Beautiful, huh? hahahaha

Little-Itty-Bitty is doing well. She’s eating like nobody’s business and starting to do some exploring and playing. She seems to be getting some energy now that she’s fattening up. She is definitely a snuggly Kitty and she adores Jefe.

Hope y’all had a great holiday weekend. I’m exhausted still from all the burnin’ and cooking I did. (I made potato cakes and bacon for breakfast yesterday. Quiche for dinner. (I also did a Quiche on Sunday for some friends and on Saturday, made chili-cheese dip, bacon-ranch crazy bread for the Razorback watch party!) Woo Pig Sooie! It’s time for some football again!

check it out!

we have a new bed and new couch being delivered this weekend! Yippee!

I can’t wait to decorate. Yes. I’m a girl. It’s so nice to finally have something that we picked out as opposed to the furniture that was donated to me when I moved. My friends are so generous, and I have loved and appreciated everything they’ve done for me…but yay for new stuff!!

Also I got to move my table home this weekend. It’s a beautiful rosewood table with matching coffee table made from the leaves. I’ll post pics of the room next week once the furniture is delivered.

Happy Tuesday!

blog title? yeah, not today.

Holy crap, it was a busy weekend. Rader played in the Gold Division of the President’s Cup this weekend, and his team (The Deathcats) won the tournament! This means we are eligible to head to Greensboro, NC in June to represent Arkansas in the Regional tourney. How awesome is that? The last game was quite tough, as we had a very strict ref. He didn’t take no BS from anyone. So a player got ejected (well, he did throw a punch), Fishdog got ejected for yelling (after several warnings), a couple of parents got lectured and warned and a few more players were also sternly warned. And the game looked more like a rugby match than soccer. Lots of hitting, tripping, cursing, a few punches thrown (not even kidding) and mouthing off by parents and players alike. Fun times.<–NOT

Congrats Deathcats! Y’all played hard and you deserve the medal! For some action shots of Rader in the goal, go here.

It ended up being a beautiful fall weekend. My favorite kind of weather. Warm and windy with leaves raining down everywhere. Ruby, Clementine and I walked by the pond yesterday afternoon and I took some pretty cool pics.

And since Bobcat Greyskull isn’t allowed outside yet, I took one of him, being all cool and stuff:

My claws. Let me show you them.

I hope y’all had a great weekend. I did..but I’m glad it’s over…

insert witty title

who needs a title anyway?

This was a great, laid-back weekend. I did laundry, hung out with friends, the Razorbacks won, my son played a helluva soccer game and the coffee fairy showed up every morning!

Let me tell ya, everyone should get a coffee fairy. That guy rocks.

I didn’t take many pics this weekend (must have been off my game) but I did manage to capture quite a phenomenon in pixels.

All animals love clean clothes.

The moment I folded this pair of shorts, Bobcat Greyskull decided to take a break from wreaking havoc and being generally evil…to sleep on the clean clothing.

Notice where Trinity starts out…on a pillow away from the clothing. Then I fold some shirts and place them away from her and turn my back to find…

She has moved to the clean clothes side. So I scoot them out of the way…

and it appears she’s decided to “show me.” Ruby also enjoyed a pile of clean towels. I love having help with the laundry, don’t you?

knock knock

You wanna know why you’re knocking on my door? Because I HAVE A DOOR THAT WILL CLOSE AND ALSO HAS A DOORKNOB!

See that red sock? Yeah, that was my “doorknob.” And my door opened into my room (my tiny, tiny room) and took up space. I swear, when my door was shut, it looked like the Dorm Room of the Perpetually Lucky. Now, thanks to Tim the Tool Man El Jefe de la herramienta del hombre, my door swings out and has an actual knob. (so in the future, if there’s a sock hanging from the doorknob, don’t come in…) Also that mirror? IT’S HANGING NOW. Like on the wall.

I rearranged my room and Rader’s this weekend, trying to make better use of the space. During my frenzied cleaning, I found a Barbie Tiara (what? doesn’t everyone have a Barbie Tiara just lying around their house?) Naturally, I wore it while I cleaned.

You can see in this pic that my bed used to be located on the wall next to the door. Now it’s on the far wall and wow do I have a ton more room. I had to move my desk out to make that happen…but I’m glad I did.

And for your moment of Ruby, as I was pulling my sheets out of the dryer, I turned around to find this:

I’m not the only one who loves warm, clean sheets I guess.

Hope your weekend was a good one. I certainly can’t complain…

what a weekend

We didn’t do a ton, but we had a ton of fun. My weekend in pictures:

El Jefe and I took a little drive to the Hot Air Balloon Festival where we got a giant helping of redneck and a tiny taste of hot air balloons. We ended the evening at my favorite local German Restaurant.

Notice the butt-to-butt placement of Black Dog/White cat Dog. These two adore each other in reality, but when they have an audience, they totally ignore each other.

El Jefe and I took turns dating John Deere….

We had a very disappointing College Game Day. Ruby couldn’t even be bothered to wake up and cheer. El Jefe and I tried to root our teams to victory, when that didn’t happen, we took comfort in cheese dip and Dude.

Dude Vodka. It’s Mountain Dew inspired. And when you mix it with Diet Mountain Dew, you are in for a treat. And possibly a hangover.

Hope your weekend was as awesome as mine.
