what’s in a hammock? and other stuff.

Me! I’m in a hammock!

(Not Pictured: El Jefe)

Last weekend in Oxford, we stopped by a sporting goods store which I for the life of me can’t think of the name right now. I think it starts with a K. Something like Kincaids or Kincannons, or maybe Kancoon. Who knows? And who cares, for that matter. El Jefe has had his eye on these hammocks, you see…and now we can swing from the trees as we were meant to do. His is all manly in Army green and navy and mine is perfectly bright and awesome like me. They are technically double hammocks, so when it cools down, we can snuggle. I say technically because I’m pretty sure they are only double hammocks if you’re both anorexic and only 5 ft. tall. But whatever. We’ll try it…when it’s no longer Eleventy Million Degrees outside.

I worked my booty off yesterday. (Sadly, it came back overnight) I mowed and blowed (leaves) and cleaned my porch and poisoned weeds, and tried to have a heat stroke… And now my yard looks fantastic! I’m pretty sure I did all the outside work to avoid doing all the inside work. My house is a bit of a pit right now and I keep procrastinating. Wait, it’s not procrastinating if I’m working in the yard. RIGHT?

Now it’s time for the gratuitous doggy pics.

Saturday I went to Robyn’s house so that we could enjoy the pool for our last hurrah before she moves. I’m sure gonna miss that pool, but I’m really looking forward to the new digs and my new guest room. (it’s the room where the wine bar is, btw) So here’s this year’s Robyn and Mel in the pool shot:

Compare that to last year’s Mel and Robyn in the pool pic:

Farewell my blue-watered friend! You will be missed…

Oh! And El Jefe and I went to see the very much anticipated (by me) Jon Favreau movie COWBOYS AND ALIENS. I wanted to love this movie so very much because I love Jon Favreau so very much. The only word I have in my vocabulary to describe it… Meh.

And that makes me so very sad. It was okay. Wait for the DVD…

R.I.P Baby Bear

I’m so glad the boys and I got a chance to love you. You’ll be missed. 15 years is a good long life, and I hope you enjoy your forever spot underneath the shade tree. Chicken Nugget will be sure to visit often and keep you company.

ETA: for those who don’t know, Baby Bear was El Jefe’s puppy for 15 years. He was a full-sized lab on little-bitty legs and he loved kids, cats, and El Jefe. He also loved chicken treats and after the move, loved the Compound.

a tail’s tale

Bobcat Greyskull (occasionally known as Turbo, Spazz, Bullet, Blur, and Crackhead) is currently having his tail snippy-snipped. Which is good, because it was getting pretty disgusting. *shudder*
Not that it slowed him down at all. He don’t need no stinkin’ tail. He just needs a piece of paper. And lemme tell ya, you bettah NOT be a piece of paper in his presence because he will PUNISH YOU hardcore.

Here he is crashed out with his BFF. When she allows such things…
In other news, there’s a whole lotta stuff going on at Hey Don’t Judge Me! We have Glee Season 1 Drinking game recaps; My Bachelorette Recaps; Real Housewives of WTF New Jersey; and now Hoarders! Go forth and enjoy!!!

3 days of happy and broken down boat.

El Jefe and I took the mutts to Lake Ouachita this weekend. We arrived Friday afternoon, loaded everyone onto the party barge and took off to find the end of the earth.

A few weeks ago, we were there for the day, and the water was so high we actually had to be boated to the boat. The lake has receded quite a bit now, so all the land looks completely different. It’s kinda crazy.
Anyway, we really wanted to see how Trinity would do at the lake because
she’s such a water lover. Let me just say, she’s got to be a Mer-dog. She took to the lake like she had gills. Baby Bear, on the other hand, could have done without the whole floating truck-like thing. He’s pretty worn out, still. Poor dude. I think 3 days was just too much for his old ass. (he’s 14…) Ruby was Ruby. She’s not even close to being a waterdog but loves to wander around with her people and Trin. So she did a lot of wandering. And a lot of sleeping.

It was perfect weather this weekend. Breezy and warm but not scorching. We were joined Sunday by my brother and his two kids. And despite a few war wounds from conquering a couple of islands, and the party barge propeller giving out on Sunday forcing us to be towed in, we had a great time. Here’s a sample of what you missed.

things and stuffs and things

  • I’m hoping to have both Bachelorette episodes 3&4 posted at HDJM today. There are some epic moments that must be given their proper attention. EPIC. MOMENTS.
  • Bobcat Greyskull will indeed be losing his tail, therefore earning his name after all. Probably will be next week some time. He’s doing great, though. When he wasn’t playing with Ruby he was sleeping on my chest. This morning he met Chicken Nugget, and although Nugget is slightly suspicious, he seems to be warming up to him. Nugget is a lover, not a fighter. Clementine is all “get out of my patio.” It will take her a while, but she’ll get there.
  • I found an itty-bitty 4-leaf clover walking to my office today.
  • It’s Day 2 of a short work week and I’m ready for Day 5 which will consist of driving to the lake, getting into the boat, tooling around the lake, getting sun.
  • Possibly some hiking will occur…
  • The kids were left with a chore list this morning as when I got home last night, my living room looked like a daycare had exploded in it. Candy, sodas, juice, jello, cereal, clothing, movies, socks, and shoes were just a few of the things scattered about the room. Most bedrooms are bigger than my living room. As you can imagine, I was not a happy mom.
  • I’m wondering if we can make Bobcat Greyskull a party barge cat…
  • Thanks to the boys (and fishdog) I now have an iPhone 4 (belated birthday gift) and I ❤ taking pics with it, so please see below for THE CUTE.

prepare for the epic in cute: meet Bobcat Greyskull

A tee-tiny, itty-bitty kitteh adopted us this weekend. He’s barely 4 weeks old, has a broken and infected tail and is so skinny he makes Lara Flynn Boyle look obese.
I say he adopted us, but really, he adopted Ruby. And Baby Bear didn’t seem to mind him either.

El Jefe is taking him to the vet today. We expect he will lose his tail (though they might surprise us)… in preparation for the possible de-tailing (haha), we’ve named him Bobcat. And then Greyskull naturally, of course. And really, you have to call him Bobcat Greyskull because that’s his name, like Bettie Sue or Jim Bob. Anyway, El Jefe seems quite smitten with the little rascal. I’m wondering if Bobcat Greyskull will make it back to the compound… 🙂

Yesterday was a day of yard work and household duties. El Jefe became one with the John Deere while I potted some hanging baskets and cleaned off and straightened up my porch. Jefe also got to put his big bag of tools to use and fixed my bathroom faucet and porch door. Next on the list: cat door! (because the cats keep finding their way to my home. I think I’m running a House for Wayward Kittehs. This does NOT make me a cat lady. Yet.) (also, if I have dogs, doesn’t that automatically disqualify me from being a cat lady? yes. yes it does.)

I leave you today with a picpasm of more cuteness. Have a great week!

The yellow kitteh is Chicken Nugget. He and Ruby are pretty much BFFs…

Here is Ruby and Baby Bear checking out Bobcat Greyskull. Headbutts all around!
Trinity really enjoying a good brushing.

Baby Bear is too cool for school. Or my camera.

pictures are worth thousands of words. Okay, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration

My weekend in pictures (and some brief narrative, because despite my lack of productivity in recent months, I am still a writer…)

Friday night… after fantastic pedicures with Robyn (go see Mickey at CK Nails on Cantrell. AWESOME) and while Ian was gallivanting about with his lovely girlfriend at the movies (they saw Thor and both said it was Surprisingly Awesome. Go figure) Rader and I had dinner with friends. We went to Salut where we had some of the absolute best homemade pasta I’ve ever eaten. Holy Spamoli I would have slapped my momma twice for the chicken cannelloni topped with fried spinach.

The next day, was soccer. All day of soccer. Down by the river…where I wish I had a van because the north wind was blowing and it was friggin’ cold. After game #1, Rader and I went to US Pizza for our favorite BBQ Chicken Pizza (it has jalapenos on it and is verra good)and this is where I took the pictures below:

My child is NOT RIGHT. He has all this hair, which I love…but it gets in his way during soccer. So we pull it back, but it falls out (well, it doesn’t now, thanks to my superior hair engineering abilities). Rader, being the sharp-as-a-tack guy that he is, took some pre-wrap and made a headband. I have referred to this as his Hair Injury.

Saturday night, we sat down with our tub of cheesy poufs to watch movies:

Yes, I had to fight them off my cheesy poufs. Ruby declared herself guardian of the pouf and Kitty G didn’t care. So she sat on my lap where she tried to take the poufs from my hands…

Sunday we had more soccer…and sadly the boys lost. Well, I am sad they lost, but not sad that I didn’t have to spend the rest of the day at Burns Park because I had 4+ hours of yard work to do. I don’t always have a lot of help, but Ruby decided she was all about John Deere Dreams this weekend.

When yard work was complete, Wolverine was put together…

And Trinity watched as El Jefe set up our HBOgo so that Rader and I can catch up on Game of Thrones which we are missing out on! I’m 4 shows behind now! The horror!!!

So…how was your weekend? Don’t worry if you didn’t get much done, I feel like I did enough for everyone!

Miscellaneous

It’s gonna storm tonight and rain most of the week through the weekend. That doesn’t make moving stuff from one state to another very fun. (not that moving stuff is fun anyway)

The Mominator’s new bionic shoulder is still giving her trouble but she has more mobility now, which is good. The other good thing is, I got to go shopping for her yesterday. I love shopping.

While shopping for the Mominator yesterday, I found these. I would be the proud new owner of my very own Sock Monkey Slippers had they not all been sized to fit an Oompah Loompah. I WILL own a pair. Soon.Ruby, Kitty G and Chicken Nugget were very happy to see me yesterday. Clementine appears to have abandoned ship. Hopefully she’ll come back around before the storms hit. She does tend to be a wanderer…

I am going to the beach in 15 days and I can’t wait.

And now for your random pet pics…Ruby and Kitty G were yesterday’s subject. Chicken Nugget was being a diva so I didn’t get any shots of him…

tax day. need brainz

heh. That’s how I felt after doing my taxes.

This was a very busy weekend but it was a very good one. One more weekend to go before El Jefe and I reside in the same state again. We won’t be next door neighbors this time, but it sure will make having lunch on a Wednesday much easier…

I’m pretty tired and ready to relax with the kids and Gooby Ruby tonight. I missed the little pug (but don’t tell her that because she’ll take full advantage of it and ask for things like cake.) I hope the terrorists kittehs have left the house standing… And this time, they better have charged a cover for their cage matches. They gotta start earning their room and board!

these boots were made for awesome

Love Fall is in the air…

At 5:30 this morning, I had my cup of coffee on my screened in porch wearing my gigantic orange sweatshirt and a snuggieeh. And a couple of kittehs and a puggeh. It was 48 degrees.

So guess what? I pulled out my awesome boots that are awesome and I wore them today. Behold the awesome boots that are awesome!

Now, was I ready for summer to be over? Not really. But foozball and boots I’m always ready for. And coffee on the porch wearing a snuggeh, kitteh and puggeh. Can’t really do that in the summer.

Speaking of puggeh and kitteh–check out Ruby and Chicken Nugget.

HAI! I’M A KITTEH!
HAI! I’M A PUGGEH!

Kitty G is still unsure of the puggehness, but she’ll come around.
