now what?

So, Ian had 5 teeth removed yesterday. He didn’t feel great last night. Had a long night, but the meds helped. He was fun to watch, I’m not gonna lie.

He ate Ramen for breakfast today, and seems happy. Looks like life is getting back to normal.

Since I’m home today, I am in charge of deChristmasing the house. I really don’t want to…mainly because I hate packing the holiday up. However, this house is tiny, and we need every ounce of space available. So we say goodbye to the Pimp Tree and the Flamingo tree and all the other holiday awesome in this place.

I’m heading to the gym today, too. Remember how I was doing bootycamp and loving it, but I had this awful elbow pain? Guess who has tennis elbow and hasn’t played tennis since college? Yes. Me. Ugh. And let me tell you, that shit is painful. They should call it something like JACKHAMMERING RAILROAD SPIKES ELBOW.  Tennis elbow sounds so benign. I can’t even squeeze a tube of toothpaste with my left hand without wincing in pain. WTF?

I have an appointment with a chiropractor next week and have high hopes we’ll be able to realign my cranky neck and shoulders and fix this freaking messed up tendon and muscle situation. I have plans to rejoin bootycamp in February, and have the half-marathon in March..so here goes nothing. At least I can walk/run without worrying about the elbow. I just can’t weight train right now.

Now what? It’s 2013. Jefe and I are both working. The kids are happy. We’re happy. Life is good. Now let’s just get my elbow fixed so I can squeeze the toothpaste and open the car door again.

2013: Day the 3rd

I kinda like this and will work on applying it to my life. Especially #5. Haha. I think WAY too much. I need medication to help me think less. I think the one I’ve heard the most about is called cannabis, sadly it’s not legal here. hahahaha

How was your New Year? Mine was absolutely wonderful. There was lots of laughter, champagne, and more laughter. My kid and my Domestic Partner crack me up. (yes, I’ve decided to call Jefe my DP from now on. It’s awesome.)

We had a FRINGE marathon New Year’s Day. I got to start the show from the beginning and now I’m hooked. Two things I’ve taken from this show that are awesome:

“Excellent! Now let’s go make some LSD!”

“Peter. This is me, Walter Bishop. Your father.”

From now on when I call Jefe, this is how it’s gonna go. “Jeffery. This is me, Melissa Francis. Your domestic partner.”

I may have to call him every single day just to say that. And of course, when the conversation is over, I will be sure to mention making LSD.

Wow. I’ve mentioned 2 illegal drugs in this blog…that has to be a first. Whatever will you think of me? What do I care? It’s funny.

Ian is having his wisdom teeth removed today, so I’ll be at home this afternoon to take care of him. My mother-in-law had surgery last week, and I’m taking her and Poppy some soup at lunch. I gotta take care of the people I love, doncha know?

Okay folks, any resolutions this year? Any revolutions this year? Or revelations?

*chin fist* tell me about them…

swag

For those of you concerned about my son losing his sense of style because he is required to wear a shirt with a collar and a tie…Fear Not.

Rader in the past:

Rader today:

Aw yeah. Swagger. You’re doin’ it right.

weekend wrap up…

New movies watched:

DARK SHADOWS
THE CABIN IN THE WOODS

I absolutely adored both movies. They were each very funny and The Cabin in the Woods was absolutely fantastic! Well written (duh…it’s Joss Whedon), hysterical, campy and a little creepy.

Saturday, I spent the morning with my BFF from high school and her family, then we had lunch. Afterward, I made another VERY SUCCESSFUL Pinterest recipe It was melt-in-your-mouth fabulous.

This is what it looks like before it is done. Sorry I forgot to snap a pic of after…but trust me, it was pretty and delicious. El Jefe calls the crockpot the Magic Food Bowl. heh You put regular stuff in and a few hours later, magic happens and deliciousness comes out. Yep, that’s pretty much what happens.

Saturday night I delivered half of the roast, potatoes and greenbeans to my friends and hung out with Bit for a while. She dubbed me Princess Pink (even though she assigned yellow to me as my favorite color.) She was Princess Purple and she wore her sparkly shoes. We both had on tiaras and I was instructed that next time I come over, I have to wear my sparkly shoes, too. Terms I am happy to comply with.

Then it was movie time:

Sunday was sunny and beautiful and the perfect day for soccer. The final score was 1-1. There were some not so great calls and some parents who were not so great examples by yelling at the refs and calling for red cards every few minutes. And they wonder why their kids act like assholes on the field? Because their parents act like assholes on the sidelines…

And Sunday night, I enjoyed a trip down memory lane with Ian as I forced him to watch HEE HAW while we waited on Boardwalk Empire to start. Apparently he didn’t find HEE HAW nearly as funny as I did. Neither did El Jefe, who quickly left the scene for the safety of the bedroom. Humph.

There’s just no accounting for some people’s taste…or lack there of, huh?

Hope you guys had a great weekend. Mine was filled with love, laughter and some fantastic food…which means I’m all smiles today.

Thursday Night Lights

#66 (aka Rader P. Francis) for the Catholic High freshman football team texted me from the bus yesterday as they were headed to their ballgame:

#66: Be expecting a 40-50 yarder today. I’m in the zone, judging from the reps I was getting before we left.

Me: Awesome. U better not let me down

#66: I certainly don’t plan on it…

Fastforward to the game. 4 punts. Two decent 30+ yarders. One maybe 20 yards long and 50 yards high…. and then…this one:

42 yards of nothing but beauty. (video courtesy of Fishdog)

Here are the texts on the way home:

#66: Well that sucked…Except for my 3rd punt! [actually his 4th but that’s ok] That was freakin’ awesome!!!!!

Me: Amazing!!!!!!

#66 ikr!!! You should TOoOoOtally blog aboot it.!

Me: 😉 I will

#66: Huzzah! The prophecy has been fullfilled!

Then it ended with the various proud of you, love you, love you too, see ya tomorrow stuff.

Yep. My baby. He’s got a foot on him!

And speaking of babies…Check out Little-Itty-Bitty in her favorite person’s arms. (hint, not mine…my arms aren’t hairy….)

Sorry if the sweetness gave you a cavity.

Happy Friday y’all! Today is awesome, and I have declared it the official Love on a Redhead day.

and don’t forget to sparkle!

inspiring.

Boy, I love me some Bill Clinton. He did wonders as governor for my home state of Arkansas, and he did amazing things for our country as President. And last night, he kicked ass. And told the truth! (I’ve been reading the non-partisan fact checkers all morning and have been enjoying their struggle to find any actual lies in Clinton’s speech. There were exaggerations, which I expect in every political speech, but factually, Clinton did it right.) I hope Romney and Ryan were taking copious amounts of notes last night… If you didn’t get a chance to watch it, please do. No matter your political leanings, you have to admit this man is nothing if not inspiring.

In other, non-political news, Rader P has a football game in Conway tonight. I can’t wait to see him play. I missed his first game last week due to the fact that they scheduled it at 4:00 (thanks to Isaac) and it was 90 minutes away…I couldn’t get off early enough to make it. Made me sad, but thankfully, Rader understands that just showing up to all the games is not what makes a good parent. It’s the other stuff that counts.

In other, other news…I’m considering starting a M-W bootcamp next week…I’ll let you know if I survive…

big. stuff.

Ian is taking his driver’s test today. He starts college tomorrow. My treefrog is all-growed-up.

Not only can he vote, he can join the military, & run off and get married without my permission (yeah…but if this happens, I will be killing him so, really this one doesn’t count). And he’s a college boy. Wow.

I’m amazed by both of my boys everyday. I’m proud of the young men they are becoming…and if you do the math, you’ll realize I was obviously child bride and young mom…because there is no way I’m old enough to have boys this age. (which explains why I’m still getting carded) Freshmen! Both of them!

In Feline news, Clementine brought us a present yesterday. I’m very glad it wasn’t a bunny or a chipmunk. About a month ago she brought us a flying squirrel. She probably took it straight out of the air, because she’s hardcore like that.

weekend recap

  • There were boys in the house all weekend.
  • It stormed Saturday and I slept late.
  • I met my BFF from high school at US Pizza for a beverage and to catch up.
  • I made country fried steak, gravy, and hashbrowns for dinner Saturday night.

  • I spent more money than I should have at Walmart (big surprise)
  • I almost went on a killing spree at Walmart (big surprise part deux)
  • The only thing that saved everyone in Walmart from my bloody wrath was the fact that I didn’t have a gun, machete, or a flamethrower with me. Although I did (briefly) consider going to tools and grabbing something pointy and stabby…the only thing that stopped me is that I would have had to stand back in line for probably another 30 minutes. Also, there would have been lots of blood and probably suicide by cop so I just decided to seethe.
  • Ian and Ruby make a cute couple.
  • There was lots of quality time with John Deere on Sunday.
  • Laundry
  • Goofing off
  •  Sunday is crack-tv night…True Blood and The Newsroom.
  • And wine was consumed.

 CHEERS!

boys and their momma

Here’s Rader and his 8th grade graduation:

and here he is today, his 2nd day in high school:

What a difference 4 months (and a couple of haircuts) can make…

Last night El Jefe and I had a houseful of boys. I didn’t cook because Ian and his best friend Ben had gone out to eat with Ben’s parents and because we had plenty of leftovers from Monday night’s awesome pan-roasted chicken.

I love the fact that the boys want to come and hang out at the house, but sometimes it feels really, really crowded. Our house is more like a cottage and with only 1 living room and 1 couch and a dining table…so when we’re watching TV, we are all on top of each other.

But that’s okay for me, I love that they wanna be there–I just wish they didn’t always wanna be right on top of me… haha. I’m very lucky though. How many teenage boys do you know that come to their mom’s room at 10:00 (her bed time) and make sure they give her a hug and a kiss goodnight? Yeah, I’ve got two amazing kids. I’m pretty proud.

Now to get Ian situated to start college next week. Wow. August 2012 is turning out to be a big month for the Francii.

milestones

Has anyone seen these two boys? No? Yeah, me either…

As of this morning, my baby is a freshman in high school. I mean. Wow.

Also, I bought textbooks for my eldest son today…who will be a freshman in college next week. (I had to sell a kidney to pay for them, thankfully his financial aid will ease that pain some…)

Growing up is hard on a momma.
