Hello Humpday. What you got for me today?

  • Popsicles taste better in a hammock.

  • Today we register Rader for 8th grade and that’s just weird to think that I have an 8th grader…who’s almost 6ft tall. WTF?
  • In other news, the double hammocks do indeed work for two people who are not pint-sized.
  • I have finished both my recaps for the Bachelorette Finale and After the Final Rose but Hey Don’t Judge Me is offline right now for server upgrades. Hopefully we’ll be back up and you can read all the goodness that is crappy TV.
  • I woke this morning to this:
  • Today is Wine Wednesday but I’m not sure it’s gonna happen as per usual. We shall see.

Oh and for the recent visitors to my blog who are looking for Melissa Francis from CNBC …Let me answer what I can for you: Yes she has great legs. Yes she’s married (to Wray Thorn, I believe)–at least she was this time last year when she had a baby. I have no idea how her tits look, but from the number of searches looking for them, they must be fabulous. You can find her on twitter @MelissaCNBC and if you work your google-fu properly, you can find an awesome Frosted Flakes commercial she did when she was a kid. And in that commercial, her eyebrows are amazing. Wait, here’s a fun interview I did with her in 2009 and I posted the commercial at the end…it’s pretty fantastic.

winning!

So every girl needs a compliment everyday once in a while. It’s funny how far something like “Hey beautiful” or “You look hot!” or “I love your smile” or even better “Have you lost weight?” will get you. I’m actually pretty sure sincere compliments will cure cancer. And Scoliosis. C’mon! you know you sit up straighter when you’re complimented!

Anyway…I do have a point here, and I think I’m finally ready to get to it…

Last night, Ian and I were catching up. He was very enthusiastic about my clean room (until I informed him he was to do the same to his room! har!!) and we were having fun checking out some of the old pics I found. One of which is me…lying on the beach wearing a bikini. The only bikini I ever owned and I’m quite certain this is the only picture of me in said bikini in existence.

Ian: That wasn’t very long ago, was it Mom?
Me: I was 21, so yes, 21 years ago.
Ian: You could wear that now.
Me: Very nice son! Your sucking up is really improving!
Ian: Really? But seriously, you know I think you’re really pretty, right?

Clean up aisle 9! There’s a puddle of Mel on the floor. Someone bring a mop and a bucket because she totally just MELted. (har har!)

Best compliment ever. I mean EVER.

his sucking up REALLY has improved…

monkey see; monkey play

Rader P had his 2nd guitar lesson last night and Jag is impressed with how quickly he seems to be picking it up. So my little monkey is now practicing a few chords from BAD MOON RISING.

(there’s monkeys in the video, too. When I pick out a theme, I take it all the way!)

ION I found another four-leaf clover this morning when on the phone with Jenn C. (now with more monkeys)

Okay, well that’s all I have right now, unless you want to hear the story about how I nearly had a stroke while waiting to buy gas last night… Thankfully I was on the phone with Dee for the ENTIRE 40 MINUTES otherwise you would be reading about me in the paper. The headline would either be: Woman Strokes Out Waiting in Line or Woman Goes Mad and Kills All Stupid People at the Kroger Gas Station (FYI, that 2nd headline is probably the most accurate)

life is beautiful

This was my note from the Universe this morning.

All is well, Melissa. You don’t have to like or love everything or everyone, not in the usual sense. Injustices and villains always abound during primitive times. You knew this would be true before you chose this life, just as you knew that the good and the beauty would far exceed the bad and the ugly.

Life is beautiful,
The Universe

Have your preferences, go where you’re drawn, Melissa, and dwell upon all that is good.

Sometimes we need to be reminded…

Rader starts guitar lessons tonight…

This should be fun. Thank you El Jefe for the guitars. He’s pretty stoked.

In other news, the same guy who is giving Rader his guitar lessons is also the Mac guy. And he’s going to take a look at my Sweet Baby MacBook today and hopefully tell me it won’t cost a vital organ to repair. Because I really miss my SBMB and need to get her back to working properly soon.

What’s new with you on this very happy Wine Wednesday? I’ll see you later, Kim Cattrall Crawford…

our weekend of rapture…

You were left behind, too? WHAT? You mean we’re going to have to wait til 2012 now for our awesome playlist to be relevant?

I laughed yesterday when I read a status from a FB friend that said, “Wasn’t that like, the worst apocalypse EVER?”

FWIW, on the drive up to Northwest Arkansas on Friday, we thought the end was actually coming a day early. A black cloud of doom descended upon us. It was swirly and ugly but thankfully, no tornado formed.
This weekend Rader had soccer in Bella Vista, AR… so Jefe and I decided to get raptured from Beaver Lake where we stayed for the weekend while attending Rader’s tournament.

The Deathcats won their bracket and I rather enjoyed my rapture, so I’d say this weekend was full of win.

Beaver Lake is seriously so pretty that you should hate me on principle.
Saturday night, we headed to one of my favorite spots in Eureka Springs, AR: The Rowdy Beaver. (or as my friend’s mom calls it, The Randy Beaver. hehe) The Lori Locke Band was playing and we really dug their show. Good set of pipes and lots of talent to back her up.

All in all we had a great weekend. There was a little bit of mischievous recon action on the way home yesterday, but that information will remain in the vault. I will tell you strategery was involved. And ticks. Lots and lots of ticks…

pictures are worth thousands of words. Okay, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration

My weekend in pictures (and some brief narrative, because despite my lack of productivity in recent months, I am still a writer…)

Friday night… after fantastic pedicures with Robyn (go see Mickey at CK Nails on Cantrell. AWESOME) and while Ian was gallivanting about with his lovely girlfriend at the movies (they saw Thor and both said it was Surprisingly Awesome. Go figure) Rader and I had dinner with friends. We went to Salut where we had some of the absolute best homemade pasta I’ve ever eaten. Holy Spamoli I would have slapped my momma twice for the chicken cannelloni topped with fried spinach.

The next day, was soccer. All day of soccer. Down by the river…where I wish I had a van because the north wind was blowing and it was friggin’ cold. After game #1, Rader and I went to US Pizza for our favorite BBQ Chicken Pizza (it has jalapenos on it and is verra good)and this is where I took the pictures below:

My child is NOT RIGHT. He has all this hair, which I love…but it gets in his way during soccer. So we pull it back, but it falls out (well, it doesn’t now, thanks to my superior hair engineering abilities). Rader, being the sharp-as-a-tack guy that he is, took some pre-wrap and made a headband. I have referred to this as his Hair Injury.

Saturday night, we sat down with our tub of cheesy poufs to watch movies:

Yes, I had to fight them off my cheesy poufs. Ruby declared herself guardian of the pouf and Kitty G didn’t care. So she sat on my lap where she tried to take the poufs from my hands…

Sunday we had more soccer…and sadly the boys lost. Well, I am sad they lost, but not sad that I didn’t have to spend the rest of the day at Burns Park because I had 4+ hours of yard work to do. I don’t always have a lot of help, but Ruby decided she was all about John Deere Dreams this weekend.

When yard work was complete, Wolverine was put together…

And Trinity watched as El Jefe set up our HBOgo so that Rader and I can catch up on Game of Thrones which we are missing out on! I’m 4 shows behind now! The horror!!!

So…how was your weekend? Don’t worry if you didn’t get much done, I feel like I did enough for everyone!

tax day. need brainz

heh. That’s how I felt after doing my taxes.

This was a very busy weekend but it was a very good one. One more weekend to go before El Jefe and I reside in the same state again. We won’t be next door neighbors this time, but it sure will make having lunch on a Wednesday much easier…

I’m pretty tired and ready to relax with the kids and Gooby Ruby tonight. I missed the little pug (but don’t tell her that because she’ll take full advantage of it and ask for things like cake.) I hope the terrorists kittehs have left the house standing… And this time, they better have charged a cover for their cage matches. They gotta start earning their room and board!

FANtastic FANaticals!

I love reader mail. It makes my day every time I get a note from someone who has just finished my books and wanted to tell me how much they loved them and beg ask about a 3rd book… Yesterday, I got the most fun Fan Mail of all…from my niece Zzer: (warning: spoilers!!)

OMG AUNT MEL!!!!!!!!! I read your second book and like i was like what the crap after i read it because i cant believe lex is going to leave he sounds totally hot and so does ryan but to be honest ryan made me mad haha for most of the book soo i kinda chose lex for a while!!! UGHHH anyways just thought i would tell you that!! LOVE YOU!! YOUR NIECE, ELIZABETH FRANCIS

Best. Letter. Ever. And I love you too, Z. Also, I wanted to choose Lex but Maria Geraci wouldn’t let me. Whatever. Lex was hot. And in other Fantastic Fanatical news…Ian had a doc’s appointment the other afternoon and I had to check him out of school a little early. As we were leaving, this group of high school girls followed us out.

“OMG I love your red hair! It’s so sexy.”

“Ian! Is that your mom? She’s hot.”

Winner, Winner! Chicken Dinner! There’s pretty much nothing better for the ego…other than getting carded… which happened again the other day. Haha! Looks like selling my soul is paying off… 😀

2011: Month of Mel day 25: Let them eat SUSHI!

Jenner, my High School BFF (pictured here with our friend Nick who (sadly) will not be with us today), will be joining me today for a late birthday lunch. She was unable to make my dinner, so we are going on a date today.

For Sushi!

I’ve been craving sushi since El Jefe was in Amsterdam and bragging on a daily basis about the sushi he was eating. Now to be honest, it has taken me a while to develop a taste for sushi, mainly because I’m a texture girl and sometimes the rubbery rice is just gross.

BUT I love Wasabi and I love, love, love a yummy tempura roll (which I know is cheating slightly) and I’ve found a couple of other sushi rolls that I really enjoy as well.

We are heading to Sushi Cafe today, and I will probably order their Bento Box lunch plate which offers a plethora of yumminess. And I may have to order some extra sushi on the side…you know, just to get my fill…

It’s supposed to be coldish and rainy this weekend and I asked the boys what they wanted to do and they said, “Chill.” Okay. I’m down with that. It’s actually what I do best… So we’re gonna chill (thank goodness for snuggies) what are you gonna do?

a saturday blog!

Yes. It’s true. I’m up, it’s Saturday, I’m drinking coffee and getting ready to take the youngest nerd to chess club.

Then…the oldest nerd is gonna help me in the yard. There’s gonna be a burnin’ today!
This is one of my favorite times of the year. We burn twice a year for the most part. And today, we’re gonna have our spring fire.
It’s gonna be awesome. We have marshmallows.
